Gains control over rule customization and achieves reliable vulnerability assessment
The deployment process took me about 2 or 3 hours to deploy SonarQube Server (formerly SonarQube), although I do not remember exactly since it was done about 2 years back. Currently, about 10 of my developers are using SonarQube Server (formerly SonarQube) in my company. I do not have plans to increase the usage of SonarQube Server (formerly SonarQube) in the future as there will not be any requirement to increase. I am a senior software engineer and supervisor at Mozark Medical. My corporate email address is karthik.k.a.r.t.h.i.k.h.a.r.p.a.n.h.a.l.l.i@mozarkmedical.com. Overall, I would rate SonarQube Server (formerly SonarQube) as a 9 out of 10.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It has very good scalability and stability."
"It is working fine. It provides a good value for money."
"The reporting and the results are quick. It gets integrated within the pipeline well."
"This solution is simple to use and can be quickly deployed."
"It automatically scans for code, detects vulnerabilities, and generates daily reports."
"I'm not implementing the solutions. However, I've talked to the people who deploy the tools, and they are happy with how easy setting up SonarCloud is."
"We use this solution for qualitative coding. We make use of the SonarLint plugin as well as the dashboard."
"The most valuable feature is the security hotspot feature that identifies where your code is prone to have security issues."
"The most valuable features of Synopsys API Security Testing are the metrics, results, and threat vectors that it shares."

Cons

"I see a problem with SonarQube Server (formerly SonarQube) because the vulnerability assessment is continuous; if I fix some vulnerabilities today, they reappear in the next scan, and there will be completely different issues that need to be fixed."
"Ease of use/interface."
"The BPM language is important and should be considered in SonarQube."
"Their dashboarding is very limited. They can improve their dashboards for multiple areas, such as security review, maintainability, etc. They have all this information, so they should publish all this information on the dashboard so that the users can view the summary and then analyze it further. This is something that I would like to see in the next version."
"SonarCloud can improve the false positives. Sometimes the gates sometimes act a little weird. We then need to manually go and mark the false positive."
"It does not provide deeper scanning of vulnerabilities in an application, on a live session. This is something we are not happy about. Maybe the reason for that is we are running the community edition currently, but other editions may improve on that aspect."
"A robust credential scanner would be a huge bonus as it would remove the need for yet another niche product."
"The documentation needs improvement on optimizing build time for seamless CI/CD integration with our Android apps."
"The solution required us to use our team and we spoke to Synopsys API Security Testing's support to do the implementation. We use two people from our team for the implementation. and one person for maintenance."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"SonarQube enterprise, I am not sure of the price but from what I understand they are charging a fee. It's is not clear if it is an annual fee or a one-off."
"My guess is that we have a yearly subscription. We use it quite extensively, so a monthly license wouldn't make sense. Yearly subscriptions are usually cheaper. In addition to the standard licensing fee, there is just the cost of running the hardware where it is hosted."
"We use the free version; there are no hidden costs or licensing required."
"I was using the Community Edition, which is available free of charge."
"On the pricing side, it's 3,000 Euros for 1 million lines of code."
"People can try the free licenses and later can seek buying plugins/support, etc. once they started liking it."
"The development license cost is reasonable, and we've had no concerns about SonarQube when it comes to cost."
"I rate the pricing a five out of ten."
