Runs consistently in production and supports reliable backend infrastructure workflows
Compared to any other offering in the Linux world, to me personally, Ubuntu 24.04 LTS - Noble (Arm) is quite similar and doesn't really matter; it usually just works. The differences are usually in support and the Ubuntu Pro plan, which I do not have, but the same applies with Red Hat—you can run it free of charge, but then you lack the support, which is what I do with Ubuntu 24.04 LTS - Noble (Arm) as well, so it runs the same as any other Linux distro. In terms of stability and reliability, I've had none worth mentioning or caused by something that wasn't in my own hands, so that's been fine so far. In my team, I have about seven people managing about 60 to 70 VMs across four different clusters and about 16 nodes. I spread them out very evenly and very thinly. User-wise, I don't really serve a company internally; I sell my service on the open market. I have no idea on the numbers of how many customers I have, but it's in the several thousands that use the machines or the service I host through my infrastructure.

Collaborative development has become more secure and efficient for our team
We have faced some issues with Windows OneDrive because if one developer has a folder in a common OneDrive folder, it took some time to show it to others. It becomes somewhat difficult to work, as there is latency on that, so if you update that, it will be more efficient and useful for the developers. My main focus on Windows 10 is the giving of regular updates, so it might take some time to update Windows, which is also mandatory. As a developer, when we are working with Windows 10, if it takes more time to update and restart the PC, it affects our efficiency at work. If we could stop the updates on a regular basis or if they were delivered faster, it would be easier. As a developer, the frequent updates are too annoying for working on it, so it would be better if we stop the frequent updates and only provide the most important ones. Performance issues over time due to background apps and programs piling up and using an SSD instead of a hard disk are also concerns.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Honestly, if I had to say the best thing about Ubuntu 24.04 LTS - Noble (Arm), as opposed to other Linux distributions, is that there is a lot of software that explicitly recommends running it on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS - Noble (Arm) rather than other Linux distributions."
"Infrastructure as code, especially with Ubuntu 24.04 LTS - Noble (Arm) or any other Linux distro, is key; if you don't have your IaC, you're going to spend forever maintaining it."
"I have found no bugs or glitches in the solution."
"Windows 10 Professional or Enterprise is a very robust operating system for the client side."
"Windows 10 makes it easy to access the taskbar section and browser tabs. Additionally, I can easily access and use applications. I find the task manager valuable, as I can quickly access it and turn off applications I don't want to use. Having a default Windows security feature makes it easy to engage."
"The product is quite user-friendly and easy to navigate."
"The solution is easy to use."
"I understand that Windows 11 supports quite a bit of additional features for people who are, for example, into high-end gaming and the features that support that kind of utility."
"It's user-friendly, and you can toggle between all your UI and features, which is good."
"I use it as an operating system for my laptop; without it, it's useless."

Cons

"I would like to see repository clearance and clarity in the repository, as if you try to get anything from the canonical repo, there tends to be ambiguity in the descriptions and especially the versioning, which makes very little sense."
"The only thing I would say maybe could see some improvement is that every once in a while it can be a little bit of a hassle keeping the NVIDIA drivers up to date to prevent any kind of crashes or issues with the NVIDIA drivers."
"The support from Microsoft is lukewarm."
"Nowadays, everything needs to be online, which I do not prefer. I prefer a few files, few applications to be available offline without connecting to the cloud."
"The solution could improve by providing web applications and have Windows 10 on Azure as a virtual machine."
"The only annoyance is the frequent updates that come almost every month or couple of months."
"It should be more secure and should have an antivirus."
"The product must provide AI features in future releases."
"I would like the updates to be less intrusive. It would be great if Windows could update without restarting. They've made some improvements in that regard, but there is still some room to do better. I would still like monthly updates, but it would be nice if I didn't need to tell everyone to log out and save their work because their computer needs to be rebooted."
"The solution is not secure."
