Onboarding developers successfully while improving code security through IDE integration
Regarding room for improvement, we have some problems when onboarding new projects because the build process has to be done in a certain way, as Veracode analyzes the binaries and not the code by itself alone. If the process is not configured correctly, it doesn't work. That's one of the things that we are discussing with Veracode. Something positive that we've been able to do is submit formal feature requests to them, and they are working on them; they've already solved some of them. This encourages us to propose new ideas and improvements. Another improvement that we asked for this use case is to be able to configure how Veracode Fix proposes and fixes because sometimes it makes proposals using libraries that go against our architecture design made by the enterprise architecture team. For example, we want them to propose using another library, and that's something we already asked Veracode, and they are working on it. We want to specify when you see this kind of vulnerability, you can only propose these two options.

Helps with Zero-day protection
We use the solution for Zero-day protection.  The solution stops any kind of remote code execution.  The tool's dashboard needs to load since it is not responsive and takes time to load.  I have been using the product for a year.  I would rate the tool's stability a six out of ten.  I would…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Valuable features for us are the static scanning of the software, which is very important to us; the ability to set policy profiles that are specific to us; the software composition analysis, to give us reports on known vulnerabilities from our third-party components."
"Veracode has impacted our overall security posture because we are from a security background. Every week, we review the dashboards of open findings."
"It makes it very easy to track and monitor activity."
"Stable and scalable, with good reporting features. Helps in detecting and managing vulnerabilities and risks."
"Wide range of platforms and technology assessments."
"The dynamic scanning tool is what I like the best. Compared to other tools that I've used for dynamic scanning, it's much faster and easier to use."
"The most valuable feature comes from the fact that it is cloud-based, and I can scale up without having to worry about any other infrastructure needs."
"There have been a lot of benefits gained from Veracode. Compared to other tools, Veracode has good flexibility with an easy way to run a scan. We get in-depth details on how to fix things and go through the process. They provide good process documents, community, and consultation for any issues that occur during the use of Veracode."
"We use the solution for Zero-day protection."

Cons

"We get some false positives with JavaScript languages like React, TypeScript, and Angular. The problem is rooted in the build process of JavaScript, not the code we are using. This is something we spend lots of time trying to resolve. When we point to a specific library and review that on the code, we can see it is a part of the build that isn't going into production. It's only a part of the build because JavaScript has a different build process."
"Maybe the boards could be made easier to understand or easier to customize."
"The overall reporting structure is complicated, and it's difficult to understand the report."
"The scans were sometimes not accurate in version 2022. There were some false positives in the vulnerability reports. We used to get false positives, and we were responsible for checking all of the alerts and determining whether they were true positives or false positives. They might have already improved it. If they have not, they can look into how to mitigate false positives."
"There needs to be better API integration to the development team's pipeline, which is something that is missing and needs to be improved."
"Veracode needs to improve its integration with other tools."
"We use Ruby on Rails and we still don't have any support for that from Veracode."
"When it comes to the speed of the pipeline scan, one of the things we have found with Veracode is that it's very fast with Java-based applications but a bit slow with C/C++ based applications. So we have implemented the pipeline scan only for Java-based applications not for the C/C++ applications."
"The tool's dashboard needs to load since it is not responsive and takes time to load."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The pricing for Veracode is high, making it difficult for beginners to afford."
"Veracode has been fair. We use their SaaS solution and it's just an annual subscription."
"Pricing seems fair for what is offered, and licensing has been no problem. All developers are able to get the access they need."
"I don't really know about the pricing, but I'd say it's worth whatever Veracode is charging, because the solution is that good."
"It is an expensive solution, but it's the best solution available on the market. If you want something at the top, you have to pay a bit more than the average."
"Aside from the standard licensing fees, we also have to pay for a competent Success Manager."
"The worst part about the product is that it does not scale at all. Also, microservices apps will cost you a fortune."
"I have not examined Veracode's pricing in detail, but from an industry perspective, I see that there is a tendency toward Veracode, which suggests competitive pricing."
"I would rate the solution's pricing an eight out of ten."
