Onboarding developers successfully while improving code security through IDE integration
Regarding room for improvement, we have some problems when onboarding new projects because the build process has to be done in a certain way, as Veracode analyzes the binaries and not the code by itself alone. If the process is not configured correctly, it doesn't work. That's one of the things that we are discussing with Veracode. Something positive that we've been able to do is submit formal feature requests to them, and they are working on them; they've already solved some of them. This encourages us to propose new ideas and improvements. Another improvement that we asked for this use case is to be able to configure how Veracode Fix proposes and fixes because sometimes it makes proposals using libraries that go against our architecture design made by the enterprise architecture team. For example, we want them to propose using another library, and that's something we already asked Veracode, and they are working on it. We want to specify when you see this kind of vulnerability, you can only propose these two options.

Helps with Zero-day protection
We use the solution for Zero-day protection.  The solution stops any kind of remote code execution.  The tool's dashboard needs to load since it is not responsive and takes time to load.  I have been using the product for a year.  I would rate the tool's stability a six out of ten.  I would…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"I like Veracode's API. You can put it into a simple bash script and run your own security testing from your MacBook in less than 15 minutes."
"I like its integration with GitHub. I like using it from GitHub. I can use the GitHub URL and find out the vulnerabilities."
"Regarding Software Composition Analysis, an exceptional feature is that during a SAST scan, SCA is seamlessly conducted in the background."
"We use Veracode static analysis during development to eliminate vulnerability issues"
"It has the ability to scale, and the fact that it doesn't produce a lot of false positives."
"I believe the static analysis is Veracode's best and most valuable feature. Software composition analysis is a feature that most people don't use, and we don't use SCA for most of our applications. However, this is an essential feature because it provides insight into the third-party libraries we use."
"The CSCA vulnerability scanning is useful."
"The product’s policy reporting for ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations is great."
"We use the solution for Zero-day protection."

Cons

"It would help to have more training for developers to help them set it up."
"It would be ideal if it was able to demonstrate higher levels of cybersecurity certifications like becoming FedRAMP compliant or working in those areas."
"It will be beneficial for developers if Veracode Greenlight includes Python."
"Once your report has been generated, you need to review the report with consultation team, especially if it is too detailed on the development side or regarding the language. Then, you need some professional help from their end to help you understand whatever has been identified. Scheduling consultation takes a longer time. So, if you are running multiple reports at the same time, then you need to schedule a multiple consultation times with one of their developers. There are few developers on their end who work can work with your developers, and their schedules are very tight."
"Some important languages are not supported."
"The runtime code analysis could be improved so that we can see every element in one place."
"The one thing I'd like to be able to do is schedule dynamic scans. Today we're kicking those off manually, but I believe that it's something have on their roadmap."
"There were some additional manual steps or work involved that we should not have needed to do."
"The tool's dashboard needs to load since it is not responsive and takes time to load."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Its pricing is fair."
"Veracode is a very expensive product."
"Veracode is expensive. But the solution is worth it."
"Aside from the standard licensing fees, we also have to pay for a competent Success Manager."
"They just changed their pricing model two weeks ago. They went from a per-app license to a per-megabyte license. I know that the dynamic scan was $500 per app. Static analysis was about $4500 yearly. The license is only for the number of users, it doesn't matter what data you put in there. That was the old model. I do not know how the new model works."
"Veracode's price is high. I would like them to better optimize their pricing."
"I believe the price is fair according to market standards."
"The pricing and licensing are reasonable, and relatively straightforward, and different licensing and subscription models are available."
"I would rate the solution's pricing an eight out of ten."
