Pros and Cons
  • "The real advantage to Dell when I look at some of the other competitors is the support."
  • "I've had some trouble where the customers are not happy with the Toshiba drives, and it's a challenge when it comes to specific requests for Dell to a non-deviate, and only use Seagate drives."

What is our primary use case?

We are a solution provider and this is one of the products that we implement for our customers. Their use cases can be everything from storage to simple computing to network traffic analysis. We have a lot of customers that just do everything with these servers, and it's difficult to keep track of.

We will architect and help the customer identify the best solution for their software, and then essentially modify whatever they need. This might include adding cards, deploying their software onto the server, and then managing their inventory.

How has it helped my organization?

PowerEdge is good when it comes to dealing with the evolving needs of high-performance workloads that our customers have. Whatever software they're developing seems to be able to take advantage of it.

The system's management frameworks have enabled at least one of our customers to progress toward full automation. Their internal scripting works with automation, which means that they can leverage the tools that Dell has created and merge them with their own software. This is something that's benefited them.

What is most valuable?

iDRAC is one of the most valuable features, as well as having BMC.

The real advantage to Dell when I look at some of the other competitors is the support. The support is better than Lenovo and HP. For example, it's much easier to get replacement components, and we can get service out to customers as quickly as possible. There aren't as many hoops to jump through. It's just not as challenging. This is one of the big reasons we stick with Dell.

The iDRAC telemetry for monitoring PowerEdge system data and providing analytics is a good feature. We have a lot of the sensor data that we capture, and it's very useful to our customers. Being able to pull that out and tell them the consistency of their product is a good value-add to sell.

What needs improvement?

The big problem that we have at the moment is with the supply chain. If it were more realistic then we'd probably be able to expand some of these systems a little bit more. This might be more CPU options, different memory, or overall consistency.

Certain customers have requirements that they prefer. I've had some trouble where the customers are not happy with the Toshiba drives, and it's a challenge when it comes to specific requests for Dell to a non-deviate, and only use Seagate drives.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers for approximately 14 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

This product seems stable to me. Compared to products from other vendors, I don't have as many problems with them.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

From a scalability standpoint, getting more systems or expanding capacity has never really been an issue.

How are customer service and support?

I would rate Dell's technical support a nine out of ten.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Compared to other solutions, Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers are very good.

In general, the user interface on Dell's products, including iDRAC, is a little bit easier and more intuitive than those of competing solutions from vendors such as Lenovo and Supermicro.

What was our ROI?

Our customers have seen a return on their investment with this solution.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing for PowerEdge servers is reasonable. Our customers continue to purchase them from us. When it comes to pricing, often our customers are doing the work for us. They compare pricing and costs against other hardware vendors to see who is going to come out on top. More often than not, they choose Dell.

What other advice do I have?

We do a little bit of support for our customers, depending on the contract that we have with them. When there is a problem with a sever, some people just want to replace it immediately. They don't really care about trying to replace single components. They just want to get their server up and running, so they swap it out. It's very much done on a case-by-case basis.

My advice for anybody who is considering this solution is that it's the support from Dell that really makes things easier for us. There is always a little bit of movement when it comes to the costs and getting the numbers where they need to be. But, at the end of the day, dealing with Dell means it's easier to support a customer, especially with critical response times. This is something that's been really beneficial for us.

Overall, this is a good product, and judging by the feedback from my customers, there are very few additional features that they want or need. Dell seems to have done a pretty good job with what is currently released.

I would rate this solution a nine out of ten.

Furthermore, the inherent security enhancements provided by these servers have demonstrably bolstered our digital defenses, while their exceptional reliability empowers us to dynamically scale resources and seamlessly navigate peak loads, a critical advantage in today's dynamic business landscape.

Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers have truly played a pivotal role in propelling our organization's sustainability initiatives forward. Before their implementation, our IT infrastructure resembled a sprawling archipelago of individual machines, each dedicated to a specific application silo. In my previous stints at other companies, I've witnessed firsthand the unwieldy sprawl of server landscapes, sometimes ballooning to a staggering 80 machines! Thankfully, the PowerEdge series was meticulously crafted with server consolidation in mind, enabling us to streamline our entire IT ecosystem into a sleek and efficient operation.

In the bygone era of IT, each application resided in solitary confinement, tethered to its own dedicated machine. This antiquated approach not only squandered space but also devoured energy like a famished dragon. Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers, however, have ushered in a paradigm shift, centralizing the once-sprawling landscape of applications onto a single, unified hardware platform. This agile infrastructure transcends the limitations of its predecessors, allowing virtual machines to migrate seamlessly between servers in response to fluctuating workloads. This results in unparalleled flexibility, liberated from the constraints of the past.

I've been consistently impressed by the exceptional build quality of Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers. Having tried solutions from HP and other manufacturers, Dell's service stands out as demonstrably superior. Both internally and with external clients, it consistently exceeds expectations and optimizes our operations. This unwavering reliability is the cornerstone of our continued partnership with Dell. Moreover, the exceptional craftsmanship extends beyond service. These servers have proven to be remarkably dependable, experiencing minimal malfunctions. While routine hard drive replacements are to be expected based on internal components, the overall hardware integrity has been truly outstanding.

What needs improvement?

Dell can optimize the size of its rack servers, offering a minimized physical footprint without compromising performance or security. This focus on space-efficient design will enable us to achieve greater efficiency and agility in our IT infrastructure.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers for over five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers are renowned for their unwavering stability and steadfast reliability. Their robust construction and cutting-edge technology ensure exceptional uptime and unwavering performance, even under demanding workloads. These servers stand as an unyielding foundation for your critical applications, delivering peace of mind and unwavering confidence in our IT infrastructure.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

When it comes to scalability, Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers leave no room for doubt. Their ability to seamlessly accommodate expanding workloads and data demands is truly unparalleled. I wouldn't hesitate to rate them a perfect ten out of ten in this crucial aspect.

How are customer service and support?

My experience with PowerEdge technical support has been nothing short of exceptional. I'm thoroughly impressed by the level of service they provide. The rapidity of response is remarkable, with knowledgeable technicians readily available to assist depending on our specific service agreement. The expertise they possess is unparalleled, consistently exceeding my expectations. I am extremely satisfied with their service.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

While I'm fresh to this organization, Dell seems like a well-established partner here. In my previous role, my company utilized HP for years, but unfortunately, issues with quality and service ultimately necessitated a shift. HP's support infrastructure simply didn't measure up to our exacting needs, prompting the transition to Dell, which played a significant role in the decision.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It's abundantly clear that the specific licensing requirements will be dictated by the intricacies of the machinery we deploy. It's an integral component of the operational process, and while I'm unable to delve into the intricacies of pricing due to my unfamiliarity with the specific costs, I can confidently assert that from a corporate vantage point, the paramount concern is to secure the most cost-effective solution, especially when managing a sprawling infrastructure.

What other advice do I have?

Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers have consistently earned my highest praise, achieving a perfect ten out of ten in my book. Across all the companies I've had the pleasure of working for, where Dell was the hardware of choice, my experience has been one of unwavering satisfaction. This positive track record is precisely why the strategic decision was made to migrate away from other manufacturers and establish Dell as our trusted partner. While I may not hold the reins of decision-making, if the choice were mine, I would wholeheartedly advocate for maintaining our commitment to the physical realm. From my perspective, there's something inherently reassuring about having the equipment physically present, allowing me to take direct ownership of its care and maintenance, and experience the tangible presence of our technological backbone. Even in the face of the allure of the cloud, Dell would remain my unwavering choice.

The general direction seems to be towards increased machine efficiency. To remain competitive, Dell likely has followed suit and implemented resource-saving measures. This is a significant influence, and likely a driving force behind many companies migrating away from traditional servers, or in the case of PowerEdge, embracing the Azure Cloud platform. Ultimately, energy conservation appears to be a key motivator in this shift.

Was ist unser Hauptanwendungsfall?

Was muss verbessert werden?

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Capable of handling the evolving needs of high-performance workloads
Pros and Cons
  • "The solution's stability is good...The solution's scalability is good."
  • "Considering from a hardware perspective, some areas of concern were network cards on the models we had in our organization, which were fairly inaccessible, so we had to remove the whole motherboard and, basically, the whole system to get rid of or swap a network card."

What is our primary use case?

I use Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers in general IT infrastructure for all purposes, including virtualization and as cluster nodes with AMD's chipset drivers since there is a broad amount of cost involved for cluster nodes instead of just smart costs.

How has it helped my organization?

With Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers, my company has entered a new generation of hardware and possibilities and is happy to use them.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable features of the solution are its integration with OpenManage Enterprise, a unified management system, a management interface, and its function as a working connectivity management platform that helps with areas like deployment.

What needs improvement?

Considering from a hardware perspective, some areas of concern were network cards on the models we had in our organization, which were fairly inaccessible, so we had to remove the whole motherboard and, basically, the whole system to get rid of or swap a network card. The aforementioned aspect can be considered for improvement. Everything else in the solution seems to be completely fine.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers for three or four years. My company is a customer of the product.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution's stability is good.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution's scalability is good.

How are customer service and support?

The enterprise support provided by Dell is good, especially the support for servers, which is an area where our organization has no complaints yet. If something is broken in the solution and has to be repaired, my organization has seen that the very next day, Dell's support team has always worked on it. There are some small issues related to the support offered by Dell, but it is okay to have such small issues that need to be refined, considering there are many generations of the product released during the product development phase.

I rate the technical support a nine out of ten.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

In our company, the introduction of Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers helps replace cluster notes primarily in the first batch and later on certain areas of our general infrastructure, like virtualization.

What was our ROI?

With the product's OpenManage Enterprise part, my company has obviously saved money and time in computing, workflows, and jobs. I am pretty sure my company has saved a lot of money and time with the use of the product.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The solution's prices are good, especially considering what you get to use. I have no complaints with the pricing model of the solution. The licensing aspect of the solution is also fine. My organization is happy with the product's prices since the whole package deal offered by the product is more than fine in terms of pricing.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

My company did not evaluate any other solutions available in the market against Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers since we were just involved in the phase of testing the systems out, and we were happy with the results, especially when considering the product as a benchmark against other tools. No real tests were conducted in my organization with any other product, so we decided to proceed with Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers.

What other advice do I have?

My company was not looking to address any challenges when implementing rack servers in our environment. My company needed new hardware to replace old ones, and we looked at what was available on the market and decided to have a proof of concept with the hardware provided by Dell. After my company got to test Dell's hardware, and once we were happy with it, we decided to order Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers.

Using the product's OpenManage console has certainly affected our company's IT staff's productivity, especially when working with the system management interface.

With the product, our company could save a lot of time since there's a need for only one or a single configuration to be rolled out on all of the devices.

As per my assessment, Dell PowerEdge Cyber Resilient Architecture approach to security in terms of silicon-based root of trust, signed firmware updates, user access security, and supply chain integrity is something we need in the IT industry. It's no secret that more and more cyber-attacks have been taking place, and taking precautions at a hardware level is as important as any other precautions taken.

I cannot comment on the area related to energy consumption in Dell PowerEdge Servers.

Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers can handle the evolving needs of high-performance workloads in our company since we could use the product in the cluster, especially with high performance, which has worked out fairly well. I think the product offers better scalability than what we had before, but we need to consider that it is a newer product in the market.

I don't know how the use of the product has impacted the overall flexibility of our organization's operations and business.

I think there is a lot of stuff to improve in the product. The product itself is solid, and it is genuinely good. It is a good hardware to begin with in general.

I rate the overall tool an eight to nine out of ten.

Helps increase productivity and reduces data processing times
Pros and Cons
  • "I've found the reliability, support, the capability to grow, and the ability to add other Dell solutions to be very valuable features."
  • "The Industrial and healthcare areas both need improvement."

What is our primary use case?

We use this solution for SAP and for other critical information that our customers need.

How has it helped my organization?

Our customers are really happy when we use PowerEdge because it improves the performance of their company. They also end up having more internal users or internal customers satisfied with solutions that they use in their company, such as SAP.

The system management capabilities of PowerEdge helped increase staff productivity by 50% for our latest client.

What is most valuable?

I've found the reliability, support, the capability to grow, and the ability to add other Dell solutions to be very valuable features.

As for security features, it's a good quality solution for the price. You can add different software or patches to have a better security solution.

It has helped reduce the data processing time by 30%.

The PowerEdge system management frameworks have enabled us to progress toward full automation when it comes to managing more.

What needs improvement?

The Industrial and healthcare areas both need improvement.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using this solution for about three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability is really good.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is scalable. You can start small and then add more products that allow you to increase the productivity of your company.

We have about 300 users and plan to upgrade the solution with more components.

How are customer service and support?

We have not had a good experience with support. Technical support staff take too much time to resolve tickets. We have a super plus level of agreement, which means that the time of response is supposed to be four hours. The resulting time is supposed to be 48 hours. We sometimes see 72 hours go by with no solution provided to resolve the problem. So I would rate technical support and customer service at six on a scale from one to ten.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We replaced Dell technology because PowerEdge is much better.

How was the initial setup?

The initial deployment was straightforward because we already had technical architects who knew how to deploy the solution.

The deployment took over a month.

What about the implementation team?

We implemented it ourselves with a team of six to seven people including a technical architect, an SAP Basis engineer, technicians, and a security officer.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The price is good for the quality of Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We looked at Lenovo.

What other advice do I have?

You should compare PowerEdge's time for response, the scalability of the solution, the licensing cost, and support to those of other brands.

Sometimes you try not to spend too much on technology, but there is a point at which it is necessary to invest in this solution because you will increase the productivity of your company. When you see the quote, remember that all that money can be recouped with the increase in production.

If you wait for too long, you may start having problems and lose productivity. You can really get hit hard with a loss of productivity. You have to determine the time to change the technology to a new one.

If I were to rate Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers, I would rate them a nine on a scale from one to ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

Top 20
A centralized data processing solution that offered immediate ROI
Pros and Cons
  • "The complete hyper-converged infrastructure of this solution has been most useful. PowerEdge has helped to reduce data processing time by 20%."
  • "Since the start of COVID, there is a shortage of support resources and it is challenging to get queries resolved quickly."

What is our primary use case?

We used PowerEdge Rack Servers to transfer all of our physical servers and legacy systems into a virtualized environment on VMware.

How has it helped my organization?

When we moved to PowerEdge Rack Servers, we converted all the physical legacy servers to the virtualized server. This reduced the operational cost, maintenance, and availability of the environment by 30 to 40%.

This solution's analytics have helped to decrease downtime. We were previously maintaining functionality by 92 to 93%, and this has increased to 98 to 99%.

What is most valuable?

The security features that PowerEdge provides have been very useful for our environment. We have integrated iDRAC Telemetry with our internal centralized monitoring tool, HPSM.

The complete hyper-converged infrastructure of this solution has been most useful. PowerEdge helped to reduce the data processing time by 20%. The system's management frameworks enabled us to progress towards full automation.

For how long have I used the solution?

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

This is a very stable solution.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

This is a scalable solution. We have almost 800 servers hosted on PowerEdge as well as almost all major banking applications.

How are customer service and support?

I would rate the technical support for this solution a seven out of ten. Since the start of COVID, there is a shortage of support resources and it is challenging to get queries resolved quickly.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We previously used HPE servers, but found that Dell offered enhanced features in comparison and was the best option in Saudi Arabia. Dell offered stability and scalability.

How was the initial setup?

Deployment took approximately a week. Initially, we required three people to do the deployment. After the deployment, we have three people dedicated to doing operations and maintenance.

What about the implementation team?

The initial setup was completed by Dell.

What was our ROI?

Within 24 months, we saw return on investment by using this solution.

Easy to set up and the remote management capability is good
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable features are remote management and iDRAC."
  • "The design, in terms of power efficiency, can be improved."

What is our primary use case?

We are a solution provider and this is one of the storage products that we implement for our clients.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable features are remote management and iDRAC. Manageability is definitely one of the good points for Dell servers.

This is a quality product that can be customized for our clients.

What needs improvement?

The design, in terms of power efficiency, can be improved.

Improvements should be made in terms of field expandability. Scalability, in general, has room for improvement.

Support for virtualization support can be better.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with Dell Rack Servers for about 15 years, since 2004.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers are definitely stable. Once we start one, we don't shut them down. The run for three, four, or five years at a time, and the performance does not decrease.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is easy to scale, although when the server is built, you need to include options for future expandability. In cases where we create room in advance, it is easy. Otherwise, there can be some difficulty.

How are customer service and technical support?

The local support in Dhaka is very good and we are happy with it.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have worked with a variety of Dell PowerEdge models including 1850, 2850, 2900, 2950, 5710, 720, and 740.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is very easy, as is the management. The time required for deployment depends on the environment and requirements. For example, it will differ based on whether it is a cluster deployment versus a VM implementation.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We also work with similar servers from HPE and Cisco. Many of the features and capabilities are the same. The suitability of one product over another depends on the specific requirements.

What other advice do I have?

In summary, this is a good product and I have had a good experience with it.

I would rate this solution a ten out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
