Offers good multi-factor authentication and single sign-on capabilities to users
Pros and Cons
  • "In terms of the tool's operational efficiency, ForgeRock Access Management is used in a lot of environments, different regions, and in different stages of production environments."
  • "I don't think ForgeRock directly supports integrations with Slack, making it an area where improvements are required."

What is our primary use case?

One of my company's customers has already integrated ForgeRock and set up Splunk. We just did some simple configuration, but not much since our customer did it.

I use the tool for its single sign-on capabilities. With ForgeRock, we can enable single sign-on and multi-factor authentication features, as well as single-layer or two-layer multi-factor authentication and password-less authentication.

What is most valuable?

Basically, we enable multi-factor authentication when logging in to ForgeRock. With ForgeRock Access Management, we can access Splunk using single sign-on capabilities. If you need one more multi-factor authentication for Splunk, we can enable it for that particular application. We already enabled multi-factor authentication for ForgeRock Access Management. Users are authenticated through multi-factor authentication, so Splunk does not require one more such tool. If you want the improvements and prefer one more multi-factor authentication tool, then it is okay.

What needs improvement?

In the past, I saw that Splunk was integrated with a testing portal, and then it was integrated with Slack. I don't think ForgeRock directly supports integrations with Slack, making it an area where improvements are required.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using ForgeRock for a year and a half. One of my company's customers uses the tool. My company implements and offers support for the tool.

How are customer service and support?

I provide full support in the application integration for our customers.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have used Splunk for CybeArk for one of my company's customers. I don't know of particular advantages in ForgeRock as such, but it helps reduce manpower and improve security, and then we can keep the environment stable.

How was the initial setup?

The product's implementation phase is very easy, but a lot of customizations are required.

What other advice do I have?

ForgeRock uses Splunk. ForgeRock's integration with Splunk is very easy and straightforward.

In terms of the tool's adaptive risk and intelligence features, I can say that it is an area that is time-based. In different regions, the working hours are different. We can configure the tool based on the timing and the work location.

In terms of the tool's operational efficiency, ForgeRock Access Management is used in a lot of environments, different regions, and in different stages of production environments. Manual monitoring is not possible, especially monitoring everything with the system memory and CPU memory, along with the user behaviors. Splunk easily monitors everything. From a business perspective, it will reduce risk and then reduce manpower. Splunk provides exact results and monitoring results to track a particular issue so we can easily identify the issue.

We usually receive alerts regarding high CPU utilization because of the high traffic we receive.

I can't comment on whether the tool helps in the area of predictive analytics or automated threat detection.

I recommend the product to others. I can also recommend products like CyberArk and Okta. Wherever we need to monitor the environment, specifically the cloud environment or on-prem one, I can suggest all the above-mentioned tools.

I rate the tool a nine out of ten.

Very easy to customize and adaptable to any environment
Pros and Cons
  • "Easy to customize and adaptable to any environment."
  • "As with any complex software platform, there is a learning curve to using ForgeRock, and it may require specialized expertise to implement and manage effectively."

What is our primary use case?

There are multiple use cases including multi-factor authentication that enable more integration on the application stack. There's also the CIAM methodology with the single sign-on, the SAML integration and the federation for business to business. We are partners with ForgeRock and I'm an SME.

What is most valuable?

The valuable feature of the product is that it's easy to customize and adaptable to any environment. We can use the leverage acknowledgment of an intellectual capture and make an out-of-the-box complex solution.

What needs improvement?

Steep learning curve: As with any complex software platform, there is a learning curve to using ForgeRock, and it may require specialized expertise to implement and manage effectively.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using ForgeRock Access Manager for 22 years since Sun Microsystems released the source code of OpenAM from Iplanet-DSAME.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is very scalable and offers three kinds of architecture; small, medium and large. That means you can start with one million users, and scale up to 10 million. The only limitation is the platform.

How was the initial setup?

The deployment is straightforward and doesn't take a lot of time. There's a lot of documentation available. It's a matter of defining the process.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Once you know your needs, licensing is very flexible and adaptable with any kind of solution and works with any size of organization.

What other advice do I have?

This is a good product with good technology that's easy to integrate. Follow the best practice and it works well.

I rate this product 10 out of 10.

Fantastic technical support team, excellent authentication capabilities, with quick deployment
Pros and Cons
  • "I like the way it is handling authentication and authorization."
  • "The support team is better than the other product we were using."
  • "I think the upgrade process is sometimes a little complicated and there are failures that occur."

What is our primary use case?

We are using off protocol to protect the application for multiple redirects and single redirects. We have multiple flows and from there an authentication perspective. We do have IDM in place to manage roles and also provisioning activities.

What is most valuable?

I like the way it is handling authentication and authorization.

What needs improvement?

I think the upgrade process is sometimes a little complicated and there are failures that occur.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using ForgeRock for the past four years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I have found ForgeRock to be stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scalability of ForgeRock is not a problem.

How are customer service and support?

I have used technical support and they have a great team.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

The support team is better than the other product we were using. If the support team is not good you have many issues.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is not always straightforward. If we are looking to automate the process, that is not ready currently.  The time it takes to deploy is not a problem and is pretty easy.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I have also worked on Okta and PingFederate. I am comparing based on my experience with other products.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate ForgeRock a nine out of ten.

Integrates well, keeps up with market trends, and priced well
Pros and Cons
  • "The solution integrates well and it is important for them to keep up with the current trends in the market quickly enough, and they have been doing a good job at it."
  • "My advice to those wanting to implement ForgeRock is if they are looking for a strong customizable identity management solution that strikes the balance between convenience and security then this is probably a good choice for you."
  • "The solution requires more simplified customization. However, part of the problem is my clients determining their own preferences. Technology can help and do many things, but you have to define your own policies to ensure that the solution or service works within those parameters. Helping customers understand their business and different processes is another issue not relating to the functionality of this solution."
  • "The solution requires more simplified customization."

What is our primary use case?

My clients use the solution primarily for customer identity management, access management, customer onboarding, data management, and authentication.

What is most valuable?

The solution integrates well and it is important for them to keep up with the current trends in the market quickly enough, and they have been doing a good job at it.

What needs improvement?

The solution requires more simplified customization. However, part of the problem is my clients determining their own preferences. Technology can help and do many things, but you have to define your own policies to ensure that the solution or service works within those parameters. Helping customers understand their business and different processes is another issue not relating to the functionality of this solution.

The reports could be more customizable in an upcoming release, and the overall customization could be simplified by making drag-and-drop functionality.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution within 12 months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I have found the solution stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

There is a lot of options for scalability in this solution.

How are customer service and technical support?

ForgeRock was born out of the open souced technology and users can use the community support without a license. Users with a commercial license can talk directly with the support agents that can immediately assist them with their problems.

How was the initial setup?

The installation is very simple.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The license is purchased annually per user. However, you can negotiate if you are signing for a longer period of time. When comparing this solution to others on the market it is priced fair, it is not at the top of the price range or at the bottom end.

What other advice do I have?

My advice to those wanting to implement ForgeRock is if they are looking for a strong customizable identity management solution that strikes the balance between convenience and security then this is probably a good choice for you.

I rate ForgeRock an eight out of ten.

Reliable and useful for securing our system, but should be a little bit easier to implement
Pros and Cons
  • "Their access management solution, OpenAM, is most valuable because it meets the needs of a lot of users."
  • "It secured our system so that it is accessed only by authorized people, and it implemented the SSO."
  • "It should be a little bit easier to implement. It is user-friendly, but there is always scope for improvement."

What is our primary use case?

We use this solution to manage the identity and access of users to SI and other applications of our company. We implement the identity of the users in that SI.

How has it helped my organization?

It secured our system so that it is accessed only by authorized people, and it implemented the SSO.

What is most valuable?

Their access management solution, OpenAM, is most valuable because it meets the needs of a lot of users.

What needs improvement?

It should be a little bit easier to implement. It is user-friendly, but there is always scope for improvement.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is a reliable solution.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is scalable. We have scaled it.

In terms of the number of users, the whole company has to use ForgeRock to be able to connect to the company. For its administration, we have a team of five people. We don't have any plans to increase its usage.

How are customer service and technical support?

Their technical support is good.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have used SiteMinder and EmpowerID and a solution from Okta.

How was the initial setup?

Its implementation is a little bit complex. It took us between four to six months.

In terms of the implementation strategy, we identified the functional aspects and tried to see if it would meet the needs. After that, we implemented it in the Dev environment, and after that, we implemented it in the Production environment.

What about the implementation team?

I implemented it myself. It does require maintenance, and I handle its maintenance.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Its licensing is on a yearly basis, but it also depends on the contract that you have with the vendor. They have multiple types of contracts.

There are additional costs to the standard licensing fees. If you need some of the features, you have to pay more.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend this solution if it meets the needs of a company. It is a good solution. You have to implement it to see if it responds to your needs.

I would rate ForgeRock a seven out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

A stable and scalable solution with good intelligent authentication feature
Pros and Cons
  • "I like the intelligent authentication feature."
  • "One of the interesting projects was to use ForgeRock as software as a service for the biggest telecommunication company in Switzerland, where they used it as a service for their customers."
  • "It should have a better user interface. Its flexibility should also be improved. It is not about simplifying; it is more about flexibility. Each company has its own requirements, and ForgeRock can provide more flexibility in terms of the use of existing modules to implement features for the customers."
  • "It should have a better user interface. Its flexibility should also be improved."

What is our primary use case?

I have been using ForgeRock as a central repository for identities. We have OpenIDM as one of the products. We also have access management and single sign-on authentication for single sign-on purposes.

There are different use cases. One of the interesting projects was to use ForgeRock as software as a service for the biggest telecommunication company in Switzerland. They used it as a service for their customers.

What is most valuable?

I like the intelligent authentication feature.

What needs improvement?

It should have a better user interface. Its flexibility should also be improved. It is not about simplifying; it is more about flexibility. Each company has its own requirements, and ForgeRock can provide more flexibility in terms of the use of existing modules to implement features for the customers.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for three to four years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is scalable.

How are customer service and technical support?

It depends on whether you have a good partner network. If you have limited support for professional technical services, there could be some pain points.

How was the initial setup?

The deployment depends on the use cases and the size of the company. It can be complex for bigger environments, but for smaller companies, it is straightforward. For example, for one of the biggest chemical companies in Germany, we were searching millions of identities. We didn't apply it at the end because of some budget reasons, and the project was canceled or frozen.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Its price is comparable to other products in the market.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend this solution. I would advise others to look for a good integrator.

I would rate ForgeRock a nine out of ten.

An access management platform that is stable and DevOps-ready, but the deployment process could be improved
Pros and Cons
  • "ForgeRock has CIAM, which other products didn't have, and they have DevOps ready."
  • "ForgeRock has CIAM with leading and innovative solutions and is DevOps and cloud ready."
  • "Automatic Deployment needs improvement. it could be made easier."

What is our primary use case?

We use this product as an access management platform.

What is most valuable?

ForgeRock has CIAM with leading and innovative solutions.  ForgeRock is DevOps and cloud ready.

What needs improvement?

Automatic Deployment needs improvement. It could be made easier.

In the next release, I would like it to be easier to use, easier to deploy, and more implementation-friendly.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for over five years.

We are currently using the latest version.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

This solution is relatively stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It's a scalable product. We have implemented it for over 5,000 users.

How are customer service and technical support?

The technical support is fine and we have not had any issues.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have worked with many other solutions such as CA, IBM, Oracle, and Ping Identity.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It's a bit pricey and could be more competitive.

What other advice do I have?

If you are thinking of using this solution then you should find a service provider who is trained. Troubleshooting skills like performance tuning are important.

It's a bit costly, so you should make it pluggable so that you can switch vendors when you want.

Generally, you need to be careful not to lock-in 100%.  Select a loosely coupled approach, that way you can replace individual modules if you want to.

Go with open standards and avoid using any proprietary protocols.

I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.

Enables us to define our systems but it is quite expensive
Pros and Cons
  • "We create and define the permissions and configurations for the users."
  • "We found this solution and we found someone who could create a proof of concept and we decided to change from Solaris IDM to this, as it has the same functionality."
  • "I find that it's quite expensive for just an open-source system. Support is quite expensive."
  • "It's hard to speak with ForgeRock. It's very expensive."

What is our primary use case?

We use it to define the users in all of our systems like VMS and Samba. We don't use Windows, we use Samba. We create and define the permissions and configurations for the users.

How has it helped my organization?

We were using Solaris IDM system, Solaris sells an IDM system and there was a big migration telling us where to go. They told us to rewrite the IDM solution and we saw which other solutions there were out there. We found this solution and we found someone who could create a proof of concept and we decided to change from Solaris IDM to this. It has the same functionality.

What is most valuable?

In the beginning, it was open-source as opposed to other solutions like IBM. We used Solaris IDM and we had to merge with another product and we chose this because, in our company, open-source software is the main solution.

What needs improvement?

It's hard to speak with ForgeRock. It's very expensive. I find that it's quite expensive for just an open-source system. Support is quite expensive. We are only 300 users. It would make sense for a big company but for a little company, it's quite expensive.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using ForgeRock for around six to seven years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability is quite good. As an IDM system, it's not so stressed. We create five or six users per month.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I heard that it's good for big companies, with thousands of users use it but our company only has a few hundred users. We use little bits of the database. Scalability isn't a problem for us.

How are customer service and technical support?

I have contacted their support. It's quite good. Out of ten, I would rate it a seven.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate it a seven out of ten.

I would recommend trying it. Do a proof of concept. Every company is different. Management is different, you have to find a local company that can support you.

The interface is quite lively but I don't think that it's possible to have UI that's compatible with the rest of the company's. We only use the core of OpenIDM.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Stable Solution that is easy to Manage and is User-Friendly
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable features are that it is easy to manage and it's stable."
  • "They should improve the solution by include reporting."
  • "If a customer is looking for an identity management solution, then, I can't recommend it, but if they are asking for an access management product then I can strongly recommend this solution."

What is our primary use case?

The primary use of this solution is as an access management system.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable features are that it is easy to manage and it's stable.

What needs improvement?

They should improve the solution by including functionality for reporting.

There are several log sites, but many are very difficult.

In the next release of this solution, I would like to see reporting features added, and also they can simplify their log-site because it's very difficult to manage.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

This solution is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

This solution is scalable.

It works from a container system or with Dell, so it is easy to scale up or to scale down.

How was the initial setup?

With the visual aspect, this solution was not easy to set up, but with Dell's tools, it's very easy.

This solution was deployed both on-premises and on the cloud because I work from three different systems. One was on the cloud solution and two of them were with the on-premises deployment.

What other advice do I have?

If a customer is looking for an identity management solution, then, I can't recommend it, but if they are asking for an access management product then I can strongly recommend this solution.

I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.

A stable and scalable solution but it requires better technical support
Pros and Cons
  • "The solution's most valuable feature is the authentication for the consumers. The integration with other third-party applications is excellent."
  • "For our client, which we are deploying for, the solution seems to be offering them really great value."
  • "The identity management model needs a bit of improvement."
  • "Technical support needs improvement. We have raised many cases but every time I call, they don't support."

What is our primary use case?

The solution is primarily used for the consumers, for their registration and other applications.

How has it helped my organization?

For our client, which we are deploying for, the solution seems to be offering them really great value.

What is most valuable?

The solution's most valuable feature is the authentication for the consumers. The integration with other third-party applications is excellent.

What needs improvement?

The identity management model needs a bit of improvement.

The solution should work on offering more automation.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using the solution for almost four years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability of the solution is good. They are coming up with good solutions and features. However, I think they should focus more on how they can automate things or make it simpler when it comes to the implementation of cloud solutions.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is extremely scalable. We are implementing this for around 10 million customer records.

How are customer service and technical support?

Technical support needs improvement. We have raised many cases but every time I call, they don't support. You need to buy their professional services.

How was the initial setup?

When you are deployed on these standalone servers, the initial setup is very straightforward. However, when you are talking about the cloud solution, deployment can be a bit tricky.

Deployment took around two to three months.

What about the implementation team?

We handled the implementation ourselves.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

You need to negotiate the pricing, so how expensive or affordable it ends up being depends on each individual contract.

What other advice do I have?

Currently, we are working under the Agile model.

I would advise others to assess the product first based on their requirements. There are multiple models, so they need to be sure to choose the best option for them. Otherwise, they will end up purchasing everything and they might not utilize that product.

I'd rate the solution seven out of ten.
