Cloud migration has protected our web servers and supports flexible usage-based security

What is our primary use case?

My use cases for FortiGate Cloud-Native Firewall (FortiGate CNF) involve protecting my resources.

How has it helped my organization?

A specific example of how FortiGate Cloud-Native Firewall (FortiGate CNF) has helped my organization is when we were moving to the cloud and we were trying to find a firewall that could perform multiple functions. FortiGate Cloud-Native Firewall (FortiGate CNF) was the way to go for us. We have web servers that we wanted to protect using the web CNF, so we are putting a FortiGate Cloud-Native Firewall (FortiGate CNF) in front of the web servers.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature in my opinion is the ease of use.

What needs improvement?

In terms of what can be improved in the native firewall, I think the logging portion is not easy to find when it comes to identifying what is causing the blocks when I set a new firewall. Sometimes I have a rule that is blocking the communication, and the logs are not easy to read.

A feature that I would like to see added to a new firewall is a way to test the communication from the machines to the outside. I understand they have that for the rules in FortiGate Cloud-Native Firewall (FortiGate CNF), but it would be beneficial to be able to test it for the general FortiGate Cloud-Native Firewall (FortiGate CNF) configuration.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

When it comes to pricing of FortiGate Cloud-Native Firewall (FortiGate CNF) in the cloud, it is pretty fair because it is based on our usage, so you are just paying for what you use. I think it is perfect. The pricing is always a consideration, but every business has to sustain itself.

What other advice do I have?

To someone who would like to use the native firewall, I would recommend taking a training course on it first because it has a lot of things to configure. I would ensure that you train because there are many small things that you need to validate and make sure they are configured correctly. I would rate this product a nine overall.

A reliable and affordable solution that can be used for firewall, IPS, IDS, UTM, routing, and VPNs
Pros and Cons
  • "Unlike other products, the FortiGate Cloud-Native Firewall has many features under one appliance."
  • "The solution is not stable in terms of switching."

What is our primary use case?

We use FortiGate Cloud-Native Firewall as a firewall. We use the solution for IPS, IDS, UTM, routing, and VPNs.

What is most valuable?

Unlike other products, the FortiGate Cloud-Native Firewall has many features under one appliance. For example, you have only two interfaces with Cisco Meraki for SD-WAN, but with the FortiGate Cloud-Native Firewall, you can have multiple ports in one interface. The solution has some vulnerabilities, but the good thing is that whenever there are any vulnerabilities, you have a new patch within one or two weeks.

They are improving their service and putting in more features. They are also improving the CPU and traffic part. People like the solution because it is reliable. Apart from that, the solution has been among the leaders in the Gartner report for more than four to five years.

What needs improvement?

The solution is not stable in terms of switching.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using FortiGate Cloud-Native Firewall (FortiGate CNF) for five to six years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I rate FortiGate Cloud-Native Firewall a nine and a half out of ten for stability.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

For one network, I have 11 sites with more than 1,500 users.

How was the initial setup?

If you don't know the device, the solution's initial setup will be complicated. The solution's setup is easy for someone who understands the network, security, and how to do policies.

I rate FortiGate Cloud-Native Firewall a nine out of ten for the ease of its initial setup.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

FortiGate Cloud-Native Firewall is not an expensive solution.

What other advice do I have?

Overall, I rate the solution a nine out of ten.

Helps to control all the processes and information going on
Pros and Cons
  • "I have configured some SD-WAN features, and it's worked pretty well. It manages pretty well, connecting all links to the firewall. It can lower balance and traffic management."

What is our primary use case?

We use the solution for perimeter fiber and to control the external access.

How has it helped my organization?

The solution helps to control all the processes and information going on.

    What is most valuable?

I have configured some SD-WAN features, and it's worked pretty well. It manages pretty well, connecting all links to the firewall. It can lower balance and traffic management.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using FortiGate CNF for three years.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We can offer FortiGate customized solutions tailored to small and medium-sized customers, as it can accommodate up to five hundred users.

    How was the initial setup?

    The initial setup is easy.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

There is a good correlation between cost and value because this is ready equipment, and the prices are very low compared to other brands. It will be suited to the customer's needs. The product is cheap.

What other advice do I have?

Before offering a firewall solution, we assess the site, service, and customer requirements. Then, we determine the project scope and the available funds to buy a firewall.

Some customers need a big firewall with high performance and certain specific features that FortiGate might not have. They have good performance, capacity, and scalability, but FortiGate may need adjustments to meet some customers' very high requirements. For example, some carriers prefer another kind of fiber instead of FortiGate because they have customers covered by it.

If you're seeking a Firewall with robust performance at a more affordable price point, I recommend FortiGate.

Overall, I rate the solution an eight out of ten.

We have been using FortiGate Cloud-Native Firewall for a few years now. It is the most stable and recommended firewall. Users with less technical knowledge can easily manage complex network and security components using it.

I rate it an eight out of ten.

Easy to set up and expand with good reliability
    Pros and Cons
    • "The solution can scale well."
    • "I'd like them to add a DNS option for FortiGate."

What is our primary use case?

The FortiGate SNF application extends FortiGate's firewall minimum capability and services to protect the loads. Like on FortiCloud, you can access your firewall remotely from anywhere, remote location, from wherever you are. You can access multiple FortiGate features from FortiCloud, multiple devices, and hardware. We can have different devices and apply these things.

    What is most valuable?

The SFN is great. I have found it a mostly well-known feature in the market, and customers are finding it really helpful for their production environment.

It is easy to initially set everything up.

    The solution can scale well.

    It is stable and reliable.

    What needs improvement?

Right now, there are two options in it if a customer has two designs. They each independently have to have their own DNS. I'd like them to add a DNS option for FortiGate.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using the solution for three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We have found the solution to be stable. There are no bugs or glitches, and it doesn't crash or freeze.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scalability is good. It can expand as needed. I'm satisfied with it.

If there are multiple devices used, it can handle more people. The newest model is very useful, for example, from an infrastructure and multi-requirement perspective. I have been able to achieve good bandwidth and throughput. Depending on how many users, we adjust the hardware requirements.

How are customer service and support?

While I have not contacted the FortiGate team for any kind of support, in the future, if I need any kind of assistance, I will readily contact them.

    How was the initial setup?

The solution is simple to set up. If a person has a background in security and networking, it won't be an issue for them to deploy it.

The product does have an end-of-life, and you can maybe deploy it for six or seven years; however, it's typically five years. After three years, we need to update our security and product hardware to improve things.

For the main deployment, you need a few people to handle it. That said, if you have an idea of the infrastructure, wireless, switching, routing, et cetera, you will not need extra people. A single technical person can deploy it if they have the customer requirements.

    What about the implementation team?

We are able to deploy the solution if we have all of the customer requirements.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We provide licenses to our customers. We also handle renewals.

What other advice do I have?

I am presenting the vendor company. I am not on the customer side.

I'd recommend the solution to others. FortiGate is better than many brands and is active in terms of features and being able to handle multiple areas of security.

I'd rate it nine out of ten overall.

Disclosure: My company does not have a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer.

Provides security with a valuable UPM feature and competitive pricing
    Pros and Cons
    • "The important part of FortiGate CNF is the UPM. It has a significant impact on the network by providing additional attributes such as a binder filter. This feature is very beneficial."
    • "We sometimes encounter issues with the SSL certificate."

What is our primary use case?

We use the solution to secure firewall security. We always implement FortiGate as a layer 3 router, but with security.

    What is most valuable?

The important part of FortiGate CNF is the UPM. It has a significant impact on the network by providing additional attributes such as a binder filter. This feature is very beneficial. Additionally, it supports ITV for quality and IPv6, making it easy to manage in terms of memory. You can view logs and reports, allowing administrators to monitor and understand what is happening in the network, which adds great value for them.

    What needs improvement?

We sometimes encounter issues with the SSL certificate. Occasionally, we face problems with the certificate, possibly due to a lack of understanding. This often occurs when we deploy the proxy mode with certain components.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

200 users are using this solution.

How are customer service and support?

    Support is pretty good.

How would you rate customer service and support?

    Positive

    How was the initial setup?

The solution is difficult to deploy, depending on the environment of the customer and takes two to three hours to complete. Two people can deploy the solution.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

    FortiGate's price is really good.

What other advice do I have?

Overall, I rate the solution a ten out of ten.
