What is our primary use case?
MetaDefender Drive's main use case is to scan endpoints for threats with multi-scanning and vulnerability detection across Linux, Mac, or Windows operating systems.MetaDefender Drive is beneficial for organizations where vendors need to be prevented from supply chain attacks. If you allow your vendor, partner, or customer to connect to your network, scanning their endpoint with MetaDefender Drive before connection provides significant security benefits. Another key use case is for legacy systems with obsolete operating systems such as Windows XP, Windows 98, Windows 7, or Unix, where antimalware engine support is unavailable. MetaDefender Drive can still detect threats on these systems.
What is most valuable?
The multi-scanning engines feature helps to manage threats effectively.MetaDefender Drive has the same multi-scanning platform as the Opswat endpoint and MFP. The difference is that you will not get as many antimalware engines compared to other solutions, but the main functionality of MetaDefender Drive is to detect threats from your endpoint.Content Disarm and Reconstruction (CDR) works on endpoints, but people typically do not use it for data at rest since the data is not in transit and remains on the asset. It is difficult to define a policy or determine what to sanitize and what not to sanitize. Overall, MetaDefender Drive is widely used for threat prevention with multi-scanning and vulnerability scanning.
What needs improvement?
MetaDefender Drive needs to be more flexible for reporting and administrative purposes. While the operation is straightforward, MetaDefender Drive is not flexible enough in meeting organizational needs regarding reporting and related functions.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been selling MetaDefender Drive for approximately four years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
MetaDefender Drive is not particularly stable. The hardware functionality sometimes stops working and requires frequent upgrades or resets of the hardware.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
MetaDefender Drive does not require scalability improvements in the technical sense. Scalability can be addressed by increasing the antimalware engines.
How are customer service and support?
Opswat's support and engineering team deserve excellent marks, with a rating of ten points.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
What other advice do I have?
MetaDefender Drive is a hardware device designed for scanning laptops and assets at rest for threats, not for file transfer purposes. I am not working on forensic analysis on storage devices. The overall review rating for MetaDefender Drive is seven out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
