All-Round Fantastic Product For Enterprises
Pros and Cons
  • "The feature that I have found the most valuable is that Microsoft OneDrive works with any Enterprise Cloud Solutions Office app. You can edit a document on the cloud, share documents with your colleagues, and monitor changes. You can access your work almost anywhere. You can also sync Microsoft OneDrive with your workstation so that whatever you are working on gets automatically backed up to the cloud at regular intervals. So even if your system crashes, you still have a copy of your documents in the cloud, which I found very useful."
  • "The area that can be improved is to be able to share easily with folks outside the organization and with folks who don't have an office account. Sometimes, when you send a link, you might have some form of repetition. If you don't know how to share it properly, whoever you are sharing it with will have issues using it. Also, the link that you use to share a document can be made a bit shorter. It doesn't have to be long. Typically, when you want to share a document, it has everything, such as the name of the organization, SharePoint, etc. A short URL will be easier to use, and it will just make life easier, especially because a lot of people are now going mobile. I'm not sure if there's a mobile version of Microsoft OneDrive, similar to Google Drive. If they don't have a mobile app, it would also be nice to have a mobile app because that would help in checking out your documents. It would be easy to check your documents on the go on your phone."

How are customer service and support?

I do not have direct experience with Microsoft technical support.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I've used Google Drive before but just for personal use, not for corporate use.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was very easy and straightforward. For the whole organization, it took about a week because it was done in stages. We couldn't move everybody at once, so it was done in stages.

What other advice do I have?

I would definitely recommend Microsoft OneDrive, especially if you are an enterprise. The support is fantastic, and it's something that they've been doing for years.

It's an all-round fantastic product, especially if you are an organization that is based on Microsoft stage products. So it's just an extension of whatever you are doing, like everything syncs.

I would rate Microsoft OneDrive an eight out of ten. It's been a very useful tool for work and personal use.

Easy to use and it is quite well integrated to the rest of Office 365
Pros and Cons
  • "It's quite easy to use and then of course it is quite well integrated to the rest of Office 365."
  • "The file structure insight could be made more flexible like for creating more flexible folders."

What is most valuable?

It's quite easy to use and then of course it is quite well integrated to the rest of Office 365.

What needs improvement?

I think it's quite easy to use. It's quite complete because I use Google Drive as well, but I think the simple feature is it's similar to Google Drive, except I think it's just integrated to the rest of the Office 365 suite.

The file structure insight could be made more flexible like for creating more flexible folders.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Microsoft OneDrive for five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I think both stability and scalability are quite good. We don't have any specific issues with the stability. It's never gone down on us.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was straightforward.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend it. The integration with Office 365 makes it much easier for anybody to add the capabilities of file storage. For example, if you are sending a very big file into OneDrive, you don't have to send it as an attachment. I think that's quite useful. Everything is quite automated, so you don't really have to worry.

I would rate it an eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Private Cloud

Image management is great since the search is simple, and accessing images with labels is easy
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable feature is to be able to modify the file online and keep it stored on the cloud, since it is not necessary to download it to make modifications."
  • "Image management is great since the search is simple, and accessing images with labels is easy."
  • "An online video player would be great, since sometimes you have to download the video to play it."
  • "An increase in the capacity of storage in the free version would be nice."

What is our primary use case?

OneDrive has been used in a personal setting for several years, but with the project of making a blog it has served me by hosting important files that I must place on the page. It is important to highlight that because of the option to share, I have been able to work with other colleagues that help me on the blog project, who edit and modify the shared items in order to improve them. On the other hand, when blog users have to download a document, OneDrive is the main server where I host office files in general, since from that platform I can make editions with the online programs that complement the online service of Microsoft.

How has it helped my organization?

It has allowed the information to flow smoothly, thanks to the OneDrive server. Now the guides, brochures and other documents necessary for teaching are available to everyone. Users should simply review the document and if they prefer, they can download as well. This solution has hosted documents in general that otherwise would have to be printed, and the visualization of these documents can be accomplished by a personal computer, a tablet or a smart phone. The information is available to anyone from any platform and operating system.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature is to be able to modify the file online and keep it stored on the cloud, since it is not necessary to download it to make modifications. Modifications can only be made by people with permissions given by the administrator of the document. Another feature that I like is the visualization of images. It is excellent, the images are shown in a good way, and the image management is great since the search is simple, and accessing images with labels is easy.

What needs improvement?

An online video player would be great, since sometimes you have to download the video to play it. Also, an increase in the capacity of storage in the free version would be nice. Offer more plans in the paid version. It would also be convenient if from OneDrive you could listen to music or audio files that are uploaded to the cloud that include an online multimedia player, which allows the reproduction and visualization of multimedia files in general.

For how long have I used the solution?

More than five years.

Allows us to share documents without the need of extra hardware
Pros and Cons
  • "It was extremely easy to setup."
  • "We use Microsoft OneDrive for file sharing without the need for additional hardware (such as flash drives or external hard drives)."
  • "I would advice not storage sensitive information since it could be prone to hacking."
  • "The website could be improved. Sometimes I try to login and the website has issues, I can't retrieve my documents."

What is our primary use case?

In our business, we usually use Microsoft OneDrive for file sharing without the need for additional hardware (such as flash drives or external hard drives). Working in an engineering company, OneDrive is useful when submitting documents to clients.

How has it helped my organization?

OneDrive has improved our organization since it has allowed us to share files without the need of an intricate intranet connection. We just use an internet connection.

What is most valuable?

What I find the most valuable is that while working with documents saved in the cloud, they autosave. This saves considerable time and ensures that your documents will not be lost.

I also love that it comes pre-installed with Windows 8 and 10. This saves time since we do not need to install any software to start saving or sharing documents.

What needs improvement?

The website could be improved. Sometimes I try to login and the website has issues, I can't retrieve my documents.

Also, I would love it if Excel documents saved with a password, since it would represent double document security.

For how long have I used the solution?

One to three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I have not had any problems.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I have not had any problems.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have used iCloud as well. However, I switched away from it because I am using a Windows operative system. OneDrive's compatibility is much better than Apple iCloud.

How was the initial setup?

It was extremely easy to setup.

What was our ROI?

Using this software, it has had an amazing impact moneywise on our business. It allows us to share documents without the need of extra hardware.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Costwise, it is a great option. In most cases, it is a free space, which will be more than enough for most customers.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I evaluated using Google Drive. However, it was a bit pricey, so I decided on using OneDrive.

What other advice do I have?

I believe Microsoft OneDrive is one of the best cloud storage options in the market. I would advice not storage sensitive information since it could be prone to hacking, but it is a great solution for document sharing.

Together with Office 365, it helps me collaborate instead of sending attachments via email to colleagues.

Valuable Features:

On OneDrive for Business, I like a lot the similar environment as I have actually in SharePoint Server. It’s because of the same “background”. OneDrive is nothing but a customized SharePoint subsite. If you have Office 365, you can take a look on the site collection dedicated to OneDrive for Business. The funny thing is that this site collection doesn’t spend any space (1 TB of SharePoint space and unlimited space in OneDrive for Business in E3 plan). Another great feature is the possibility of selecting specific folders to synchronize – this specific function was for me, finally, proof of the readiness of this tool for my purposes and decision-maker for migration to OneDrive for Business from the other tools. The next very important features are bandwidth control in the latest version and the possibility to pause the synchronization.

Improvements to My Organization:

Regarding my organization, this product helps me a lot, together with latest version of Office 365, to collaborate a little bit more instead of sending huge attachments via email to 10 colleagues etc. This moment was really great. A lot of my colleagues discover functions in Office 2016 especially in Outlook – where you are able to add attachments from latest documents (not only Office) and if you work with documents directly from the cloud (SharePoint/OneDrive for Business), you are able to add just the shortcut to the cloud destination. This is better collaboration. I always say that you will discover the level of company collaboration based on the size of the Exchange mailbox. J

Room for Improvement:

Well, compared to some other products, there is a lot of room for improvements. To be honest, I have already referred to bandwidth control, about the possibility to select folders to synchronize etc. These are really old features in other products and in OneDrive for Business, it is hot news. So I think that there is a lot of room for improvements. I think that it is good idea to continue with improvements to the desktop client tool. I also like the merge between the OneDrive and OneDrive for Business (now, it is the same process in task manager).

Implementation Team:

From my point of view, there should be cooperation between the company data and network share drives that can can be partially extended (if not completely migrated) to cloud. I understand that some of the data cannot be just moved outside the organization, but in almost 100% of the time, this is not related to all the data.

It is important to decide what data should be migrated to the company SharePoint and which one should be migrated to the company OneDrive for Business. For example, Home folders are another excellent case related to possibility of migration to OneDrive for Business. In the latest versions, the borders between the SharePoint document libraries and OneDrive for business are almost gone. These two entities look almost the same and other changes will come.
