Very good toggling feature; unfortunately some performance issues and inability to aggregate
Pros and Cons
- "The solution has a good toggling feature."
- "Lacks the ability to copy data from BI into PowerPoint."
What is our primary use case?
What is most valuable?
I like the toggling feature, the ability to switch from one page to another.
What needs improvement?
I have a couple of dashboards that are weekly and monthly. I was able to download the dashboard, but I cannot paste any images into PowerPoint. There are also visuals based on the brand that should automatically pop up in the graph and which should be a toggling option. And I'm having performance issues if I want to add two or three tables at a time, which I could easily do in Tableau. Copy-pasting data to PowerPoint for presentation to the executive level should be easy but we're only able to copy the visual, not the underlying data.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using this solution for the past eight months.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The solution is scalable but we haven't yet migrated everyone to Power BI. Our users are not finding Power BI as good as Pique, which perhaps they're just more used to. They're trying but some of the features available in Pique are not there so they are not comprehensively using it. It's being used mainly for internal analysis for now.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We initially used Tableau because our data was an internal data source, and now all of our data is migrated to tool environments, that the Power BI is more comfortable with. BI is also a free product which is another reason the company recommends it.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was straightforward, we have a Power BI admin team who take care of all that.
What other advice do I have?
Because of performance issues and because we're unable to do all the aggregation, I rate this solution six out of 10.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Private Cloud
If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?
Microsoft Azure

Managing Director at Streamline Strategies
Easy to use, integrates well, and gives us the ability to collaborate and keep track of everything
Pros and Cons
- "It is easy to use. It has got a desktop where people can develop their own dashboards. Basically, we have figured out how to connect finance contracts and all programs for the government agency. So, they can see everything in a dashboard. So, it is very easy to use from a technical standpoint of view."
- "Its desktop tool is a little bit memory CPU intensive, and it can be improved, but the machines nowadays come with a lot of memory. For the desktop users who are using it on the desktop, we recommend that they do an upgrade. It is a minor issue. We can fix it on the desktop."
What is our primary use case?
We are using it for financial analytics and reporting. We are using it to keep a track of projects and being able to degrade the projects. We are also using it for contract closeout.
My technical guy has been using the first version of it since it came out, but we are getting ready to upgrade to the newer version. It comes along in a bundle with the 365 Enterprise version.
It is on the cloud. We're probably going to run a hybrid because we want to be able to move around. If anything happens or if needed, we can move from platform to platform.
How has it helped my organization?
We can see things from a bird's eye view. We can do predictive analytics. I can tell who's capable, who's doing what, when and how much money they're spending, and how fast they're burning. So, it gives us a bird's eye view over the financials and the money. It basically gives us the ability to collaborate and keep track of everything that's going on in an organization. We were able to bring all the collaboration and tasks right into Power BI.
What is most valuable?
It is easy to use. It has got a desktop where people can develop their own dashboards. Basically, we have figured out how to connect finance contracts and all programs for the government agency. So, they can see everything in a dashboard. So, it is very easy to use from a technical standpoint of view. We publish a report every morning for the government, and we got all the data into one place. The data can be refreshed. We are using the API to connect to various systems, such as the financial system, contract writing system, and workflow. We are able to bring things from NIPA, which is their budget and where they keep all their money. There are a lot of features, but the most important thing is it is very easy to use. It is not like Tableau. With Tableau, you've almost got to be a rocket scientist.
On the user side, it is quite simple. If you know how to run a pivot table, and then you can do almost anything. All the data is right there in the database. So, if you understand pivot tables and know how they are run, and you know the reports that you are looking for, then everything becomes very easy to run in your organization.
What needs improvement?
Its desktop tool is a little bit memory CPU intensive, and it can be improved, but the machines nowadays come with a lot of memory. For the desktop users who are using it on the desktop, we recommend that they do an upgrade. It is a minor issue. We can fix it on the desktop.
For how long have I used the solution?
We've been using Microsoft BI for about four and a half years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Its stability is pretty good. It is pretty stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I would rate it an eight out of 10 in terms of scalability. Currently, we are running a pilot. We're doing a pilot for army headquarters. They dictate what happens and what they use. Currently, there are 10 users, but I'm looking to go up to at least a hundred.
We got an architect and an assistant administrator. We got a staff of three and a half people because people take vacations or sick leaves. The good part about it is that these people can work from anywhere.
How are customer service and technical support?
We are a Microsoft reseller. We have partnered with Microsoft. We have developed a relationship with their technical folks over the years. So, we kind of go directly to them. My partner came from Microsoft, so he has a very good relationship with a few technical folks. So, we, kind of, have some special privileges that a couple of other vendors don't have.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
As a matter of fact, we had built a tool, but it took so long to get it vetted and get it through to ATOs. That's when we decided to convert to Microsoft Power BI. It has already been vetted and approved in the army environment. It is an approved government site for cloud services. We were looking for the easiest path, and that's why we worked with Microsoft BI. They've already been embedded into the government. It is bundled with Office 365.
How was the initial setup?
If my technical person had to rate it, he would say very easy. All we need is to have the software.
What about the implementation team?
It was done in-house.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
They are charging us by users in storage, and there is a license fee. My financial people handle all that. The client has already worked out a contract with Microsoft, and basically, we're getting government prices.
What other advice do I have?
The backend is the most important part. We understand its backend. We implemented the on-time system for an airport. We don't find its modeling complicated. We set up the back offices and get all the modeling done and everything connected. The customer doesn't even see that. They only see the part where they're running their reports and doing the analytics or whatever they need to do. We give them all the information at their fingertips.
Everybody is going to Business Analytics. A lot of people don't understand the difference between analytics and coding, but that's something for me to teach and educate them on.
I would advise doing your testing and environment setup. You should evaluate your product very well and figure out what platform your organization is running on. You should be careful and look at how well it integrates with other products. If you're not in a Microsoft environment, it is going to be quite difficult. Oracle and Microsoft are competitive. So, you go with one or the other. The reason why I like Microsoft is that they integrate with all applications. Microsoft controls 99% of the desktops.
I would rate Microsoft BI a nine out of 10.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Private Cloud
If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Inovation Manager at SoCalGas
Creates charts and graphs to provide visuals of the data
Pros and Cons
- "The standard BI visualization capabilities are great."
- "Anything they can do to improve enterprise collaboration is going to help people get set up and utilize the solution."
What is our primary use case?
We mostly use this solution for dashboards and reporting.
There are roughly 2000 people in our office. At the least, 100 people use Power BI. We have around 10 super users who use it a lot. A lot of people just use it to look at dashboards. A lot of managers look at Power BI for their dashboards.
How has it helped my organization?
It has centralized our organization. It has democratized dashboard and report building and provides a centralized format. Without Microsoft BI, people would otherwise develop and manage their spreadsheets in Excel, which is just a lot harder than what Power BI enables us to do.
What is most valuable?
The standard BI visualization capabilities are great. It makes all the visualizations and has a drag and drop builder. It also has a power query data modeling capability that's excellent.
What needs improvement?
We're a big organization. We're looking at standardizing. Anybody can just pick it up and use it because it's easy. We want to be able to standardize what Power BI is and I think that's a challenge that we're encountering now.
Anything they can do to improve enterprise collaboration is going to help people get set up and utilize the solution.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Microsoft BI for roughly two years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It has crashed, but it's pretty stable. I haven't had any problems where a published dashboard was not working. Once a dashboard is published, I haven't seen any problems with it.
I think it depends a lot on the data access. As long as the data backend can get into Power BI, then everything works. If there are any data connection issues, that's when there will be problems.
How are customer service and technical support?
I get tech support from my admin. I've never contacted support.
What about the implementation team?
We have a Power BI admin administrator that helped us with the initial setup. From the user's perspective, it's pretty easy.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I think it's a good price, from what I've heard. I know it's competitive with other Power BI tools. It comes in lower. I've heard no complaints about the pricing.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Our company did evaluate Tableau and a couple of other tools. We ended up promoting Power BI for everyone because it was licensed and we were already using Office 365. It integrates well with all of our existing environments.
What other advice do I have?
From a user's perspective, I'd advise people to really try to understand the data sources and have a good data environment in place, beforehand. That makes the Power BI environment much better.
Overall, on a scale from one to ten, I would give this solution a rating of nine. I think it's the best BI tool that I've used. I know it has a really good rating. It accomplishes a lot for us in terms of data manipulation and BI in the reporting.

Enables you to embed visualisation and reports into your applications
Pros and Cons
- "It's a great tool for visualization data, and it's free for engineers."
- "It is too slow. I hope in future it will be a comparable big data tool, such as, for example, Data Lake."
What is our primary use case?
Usually, when dealing with business intelligence projects with big data, all customers have Office 365 but within these licenses, Microsoft BI is often included.
How has it helped my organization?
The use case depends on the project. For example, in the logistics project, we need maybe four persons. For retail sales without stocks, it's a very easy project for us, but only for sales, and purchase orders, it's a standard part of the tool, to incorporate warehousing. Sometimes it's more difficult to clean the data if you have something like visualizations. It is often more difficult to understand what kind of data you need for the customer, or the strategy of the company who needs the information, to build a suitable solution. Customers often change their requirements. That's why Microsoft BI is more useful than traditional user tools, as it is flexible to changing requirements.
What is most valuable?
It's a great tool for visualization data, and it's free for engineers. Microsoft BI has a good online community. You don't need to be an engineer to use it. In Microsoft BI you can embed the visualisation and reports into your applications. Embedded items are much faster and cheaper to use. It's very easy to work with the customers using this kind of tool, rather than say, Oracle. I have used the personal edition, but some customers have been trained to use the professional version. Initially, I spent a lot of time learning the new system. As I was already experienced in other, similar technologies it was not difficult to understand the visualizations. I encouraged our clients to do more with Microsoft BI.
What needs improvement?
It should work faster and have more common languages so that you can use it more in different types of connections. It doesn't work well on big data. It is too slow. I hope in future it will be a comparable big data tool, such as, for example, Data Lake. It uses the DAX language, which is not used widely. Maybe they should develop this part of the tool to improve access to people who don't know DAX. Sometimes it needs to have a special configuration and hardware to connect to a data warehouse. So, interoperability with other systems could be improved.
For how long have I used the solution?
I began using it a few years ago. I was involved in testing and last year, I was tasked with some large projects in Azure which included databases, a data warehouse with SQL, and Azure SQL. It is a cloud-based service, which means that a project is easy to use and design. You can use different tools for different things, but all the visualization in Microsoft BI is all in one tool.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Microsoft BI is stable and works consistently well.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Microsoft BI is a very scalable tool. You can start small and build up your project as you wish.
How are customer service and technical support?
I used Microsoft Azure support because we have a project. I have a good relationship with Microsoft. I don't have any problems.
How was the initial setup?
It is easy to install Microsoft BI. You simply download and install it from the Microsoft Microsoft BI website, and it is available to download on windows. It can be downloaded and installed in 5 minutes.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Microsoft BI is free for the personal edition, but there is also a paid-for professional version. Setting up Microsoft BI is simple.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Oracle products are well-engineered but too heavy to accomplish small tasks. However, to use it for enterprise, you need to have a lot of knowledge about the different kinds of tools available. It has more flexibility but is more complex because it's designed for enterprise-level systems. Comparing this to Oracle which is at least 10 years old. Java is also old, but it's more structured. It's more proprietary.
What other advice do I have?
Every month Microsoft puts in another update. We are likely to use Microsoft BI in future projects. Microsoft BI does not fit every business case, so for that reason, I would give it an eight out of 10.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Public Cloud
If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?
Amazon Web Services (AWS)

Pros and Cons
- "The product's most valuable features are DAX functions for formulas and calculations."
- "I would suggest improvements in visualization standards, particularly in customization and appearance."
What is our primary use case?
I use the platform primarily to create visualizations and reports from data to gain insights. It is utilized for operational, decision-making, and managerial reports.
What is most valuable?
The product's most valuable features are DAX functions for formulas and calculations.
What needs improvement?
I would suggest improvements in visualization standards, particularly in customization and appearance, to match tools like Tableau.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been working with Microsoft Power BI for two years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I rate the platform stability a seven and a half or eight out of ten.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The product is suitable for medium-sized companies with straightforward requirements. It can handle thousands of users, but its effectiveness depends on the data volume and reporting needs.
I rate the scalability an eight.
How are customer service and support?
The technical support team's response quality can vary based on the engineer's expertise and availability.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Power BI is more cost-effective, whereas Tableau provides more advanced features and higher-quality visualizations. For critical business needs and high data volumes, Tableau might be more suitable.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup process is simple.
I have worked with both the cloud version and the desktop model. Each has its advantages depending on the need for high-quality visualizations or the volume of data.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I rate the product pricing a ten.
What other advice do I have?
The solution supports integration from various applications well enough to meet most business requirements.
I rate it a nine out of ten.

Sr PeopleSoft Consultant at Mahanta Solutions
Offers both real-time and offline data processing and essential tool for detailed reporting across various sectors like banking and easy to use
Pros and Cons
- "Reporting is the best thing about Power BI. And it could help improve decision-making in many ways. Power BI is flexible and easier to use compared to tools."
- "I would like to see more AI capabilities in future releases. There's a strong interest in AI, including technologies like GPT, which facilitate real-time interactions."
What is our primary use case?
I've mainly worked within the banking sector. It is particularly useful for vertical clients. Power BI is a great tool for reporting. You can source data from any database, like Oracle or Microsoft SQL. It generates reports and provides methods to control your report's power.
How has it helped my organization?
Power BI works with both real-time and offline data. When interacting with real-time data across multiple systems, it offers a great advantage.
I've worked with real-time interactions and appreciate them, similar to how AI is increasingly being incorporated. It's fascinating to see the shift towards AI.
Using middleware technology, like web services, allows Power BI to interact with multiple systems efficiently. This request and response mechanism ensures data is transmitted from the source to the target system in real-time, which significantly benefits business operations by providing up-to-date information.
Moreover, integration capabilities were smooth. I worked on integrating Power BI with PeopleSoft, focusing on custom solutions rather than out-of-the-box features, tailoring the experience to specific needs.
Power BI is very user-friendly and easy to learn. I've even uploaded instructional videos on YouTube, which have helped many users, including some who have become long-term administrators of Power BI.
What is most valuable?
Reporting is the best thing about Power BI. And it could help improve decision-making in many ways.
Power BI is flexible and easier to use compared to tools like Crystal Reports.
What needs improvement?
It should integrate with multiple enterprise applications. For instance, integrating CRM (Customer Relationship Management) and HCM (Human Capital Management) with Power BI can be a significant advantage.
Because, organizations focus on and like software that can do multiple tasks.
The user interface is good but it should have the ability to interact with multiple systems.
I would like to see more AI capabilities in future releases. There's a strong interest in AI, including technologies like GPT, which facilitate real-time interactions.
It's all about real-time interaction between customers and the system, automated to operate under specific scenarios. This ensures it functions in real-time, leveraging AI for more dynamic engagements without needing predefined projects or setups, much like how chatbots are designed for real-time use.
In future releases, I would like to see more encrypted software, and there should be version control for Software. It will avoid pirated downloads.
I would also like to see dynamic content. It should be an add-on in Power BI. It helps users understand reports more easily. For example, when a developer is building a report, they should consider using dynamic content to make the report more user-friendly.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've worked with Power BI for almost one and a half years, focusing on reporting and integration with Power BI.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Power BI is very stable, especially in sectors like banking, retail, pharmaceuticals, and telecommunications.
Its stability is expected to increase in the future with advancements in Azure.
I would rate the stability a nine out of ten.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I would rate the scalability a ten out of ten. It's very scalable.
How are customer service and support?
I haven't needed to press for support activities, so based on my experience, it is good in general.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
How was the initial setup?
Compared to other reporting tools, it is very easy to acquire, demonstrate, and understand.
I would rate my experience with the initial setup a nine out of ten, with ten being easy.
It is very easy to set up. Security in a private cloud is optimal, whereas public cloud lacks in security. Hybrid solutions offer some balance, but on-premises solutions have a lot of limitations.
Many customers are moving to the cloud for its ease of use, security, availability, and flexibility. Cost efficiency is also a factor. For example, Why would you use the cloud? Say you have 1000 people in your organization, and only 500 need access to Power BI. On-premises, you'd need to buy licenses for all the users. With the cloud, you only pay for what you use.
Considering cost, cloud solutions like Amazon Cloud, GCP Cloud, or Azure Cloud are preferred for their scalability and cost-effectiveness.
So, our customers mainly use cloud deployments.
What about the implementation team?
Deployment doesn't take much time, thanks to it being a Microsoft product, which makes it easy to handle compared to other software.
So, it takes just a few hours.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
It's about balancing cost and value. Although Power BI is cost-effective compared to other reporting tools, its pricing should be more adaptable based on the size of the organization to ensure it remains cost-effective for both small and large entities. For example, if the organization has a million end-users, it should be cost-effective.
This is important when considering the scalability of solutions like Kronos or Banner ERP systems, ensuring the cost is aligned with the organizational needs.
The pricing is very low and competitive. Microsoft could consider adjusting the price according to the size and needs of the organization, balancing demand with supply.
What other advice do I have?
Power BI is an essential tool for any kind of detailed reporting. It's efficient and effective.
I would definitely recommend using this solution. Overall, I would rate the solution a ten out of ten.
Disclosure: My company has a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer:
Owner at Pranali Consultants
Straightforward to setup, constantly updated, and very stable
Pros and Cons
- "The solution is quite scalable."
- "Microsoft has got a very large repository of all change suggestions which have been raised by the BI community. They keep on adding features that are very widely sought after by the community. We don't focus on product features. We focus on business requirements. To use the solution, we find that existing features are good enough and offer us a very effective solution."
What is our primary use case?
The data is captured by transaction processing systems, and even when the data is captured by a very sophisticated enterprise resource planning system, or ERP system, such as SAP. We'll find that that data is organized in a manner that is suited for the data updated. Therefore, when data has to be used for decision making, it has to be reoriented and organized in a manner that is suitable for data analysis and further for predictive analytics also. What we do is pull out data from multiple data sources, either on SAP or somewhere else.
There could be a certain budget or plan or target-related data on some other platform or on a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. The data is stored at different places. Some data could be on your internet platforms. Wherever it is, we pull out the data. Then we get that into the SQL server and we organize it in a manner that's suitable for further creation of dashboards and analytics applications, which can be used for better decision making.
How has it helped my organization?
The company has been able to make better decisions, due to the fact that, when we prepare business intelligence or data analytics applications, they are used by very similar decision-makers, as well as middle-level management decision-makers. From the same infrastructure, the data is used by even the report consumers. You can consider three layers of users, report consumers, mid-level use, as in, those who do interactive analysis of data, and decision-makers. Right at the top, those who would like to see the key performance indicators and use them for deciding a course of action can do so. All of our applications have been providing functionality for all these types of needs, including risk and compliance.
What is most valuable?
The solution offers many features, however, just the way in which that product is designed is quite useful for us.
The way in which it can connect to multiple data sources is also very useful. The way in which data can be manipulated by using data analysis expressions has also been a good feature for us.
The solution is stable.
The solution is quite scalable.
Our clients seem to be happy with the level of technical support they receive.
With our experience, the initial setup is straightforward.
Microsoft is often updating the solution adding new helpful features.
What needs improvement?
I'm not a product expert as such, however, I am aware that Microsoft comes out with a newer version, which is really downloadable and it's replaced every month. Therefore, the improvement is continuous. Since Microsoft provides a free downloadable desktop version of our BI. That desktop portion gets a new version which comes every month, we can replace the older version.
Their ecosystem is quite good in terms of adding new features, in terms of adding custom visuals or adding many more interfaces or reporting features and more functionality within existing reporting and graphs. We don't have much to complain about except that they can always add many more features as they go.
Microsoft has got a very large repository of all change suggestions which have been raised by the BI community. They keep on adding features that are very widely sought after by the community. We don't focus on product features. We focus on business requirements. To use the solution, we find that existing features are good enough and offer us a very effective solution.
For how long have I used the solution?
We've used the solution since its inception. We've used it for a very long time. We have been in this domain for the past 30 years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution is quite stable. That's why it is right at the top, of Gartner's quadrant. We have deployed it with hundreds of users and it's withstood the test of time.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The solution is quite scalable. Of course, it requires data strategy just like any solution or any tool.
We tend to have 100 to 200 users at a minimum using the solution.
The solution is extensively deployed. We have plans to use it on an ongoing basis. They come out with new versions and new features every month, and this constant updating and iteration of the product have really been very helpful for us to provide more advanced solutions.
How are customer service and support?
In terms of technical support, we don't really deal with it. Normally, our clients have a contract with Microsoft, however, my understanding is that their experience is good.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We were using a CA tool and we have done work on Oracle. We have done work on many such platforms. However, since 2008 or 2009, we have been focusing on Microsoft as the total cost of ownership has been quite reasonable.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is quite straightforward.
Our implementation strategy involved a business requirement phase where we sought out to understand exactly the expectations for a particular project. Then there is was a design phase where we decided on a data strategy of pulling data from multiple data switches. After that, there was a dashboard design phase, which includes wireframing of dashboards and then designing the dashboards according to those wireframes. Finally, we deploy and in that phase, we put in role level security, et cetera, and deploy it at an enterprise level. The entire process tasks three to four months in total, end-to-end.
We don't require much maintenance due to our maturity in design and development. We have been monitoring sites without having to add too many resources at our end as we have a robust design and maybe one person can handle four to five.
What about the implementation team?
We do the implementation on our own. We have deep experience in this area, and we have developed two types of processes that we use to deploy our solutions. One is the data approach, where you know all best practices and methodologies are embedded into that thing. That framework gives a hundred percent assurance in terms of the success of that project. We have also developed a presentation layer framework whereby different subject areas are designed with very indicative dashboards and those dashboards can be quickly adapted to any data. That way, rather than starting from scratch, we use this framework which helps us to deploy our solution quite successfully. It's very fast also. We save around 50% to 55% of the time this way.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
We don't deal directly with licensing. That said, certainly, we are aware in terms of what the Microsoft BI license costs. If it has to be applied on the cloud, then it costs around $10 per month per user. For a pro license and for a premium license it's around $20 per month per user. If it has to be applied on-premises then, depending on the course of your server, you have to buy a software assurance version of the database.
They don't charge for additional features. If you want a premium capacity to handle your work or job, then there is a separate license available. That is a premium license, which is available with the entire product managed by Microsoft and you can use lot more features, including Azure, et cetera.
What other advice do I have?
We are Microsoft partners.
We have two deployment options. Some of our clients have deployed the cloud solution. Some are deployed on-premises.
Anybody who has worked on existing spreadsheet-based solutions can quickly adapt to Microsoft BI and the data visualization and interactive data features, they'll find it very exciting to use and very fast to adapt to it. It's a very effective solution.
I'd rate the solution at a nine out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

Provides easy data analysis and creates a visual representation of data from different data sources
Pros and Cons
- "Microsoft Power BI is an easy tool for data analysis."
- "We face multiple issues, and the connection drops off multiple times while integrating Microsoft Power BI with OAC and pulling in the data."
What is most valuable?
Microsoft Power BI is an easy tool for data analysis. It's easier to get the data from different data sources and then create a visual representation. Using the tool comes easily and naturally to people proficient with Excel. You need to have an understanding of data modeling and how the data works. Once you work with Power Pivot, I think Power BI will be a better upgrade than other tools in the market.
What needs improvement?
There are some issues with Microsoft Power BI's integration with OAC because it's currently in the beta phase. We face multiple issues, and the connection drops off multiple times while integrating Microsoft Power BI with OAC and pulling in the data. The solution's integration capabilities have created some issues for us, especially while retrieving data.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Microsoft Power BI for over seven years.
How are customer service and support?
The solution's technical support has not been very helpful. I have solved my issues by myself and found a workaround for it.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Neutral
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I have worked with multiple data visualization tools, such as SAP One and SAP BusinessObjects, where you had different tools for data visualization. I think each tool has its own unique capabilities. The biggest advantage of Microsoft Power BI is its integration with Excel and how it is an upgraded version of Excel. We all know how Excel is used in the market, so Power BI has a strong advantage over its competitors.
What other advice do I have?
I use the solution for myself, and I recommend it to my customers. I would recommend the solution to other users.
The selection of the visualization tool clearly depends on the data sources. I would recommend Microsoft Power BI if I worked for Microsoft. Otherwise, I would recommend other better tools available in the market. It completely depends on the data source and the data volume. I would not recommend Microsoft Power BI if the data volume is very high because it will tend to freeze your report.
Overall, I rate the solution an eight out of ten.
