What is our primary use case?
My main use case for
Rhapsody EMPI is for interoperability tasks, such as building the integration bridge between
EHR systems and managing HL7 fire.
Recently, I built an interface using Rhapsody EMPI, specifically an ADT interface, which includes admit, discharge, and transfer for one of our EHR systems.
Rhapsody EMPI helped me with that process as this tool was very helpful for me because it enabled me to create automation and act as both a receiver and a sender. We created multiple transformers, including JavaScript transformers, to write additional logic that built the connection and ensured the interface worked as expected.
Rhapsody EMPI is entirely utilized for interoperability.
How has it helped my organization?
Rhapsody EMPI has positively impacted my organization by providing a clear path and a large platform to work with, offering robust features for our clients, allowing us to avoid writing complex logic. It helps maintain high availability clusters and ensures around ninety-nine percent interface uptime.
What is most valuable?
In my experience, the best features Rhapsody EMPI offers include standard features for connecting to API, FHIR, or HL7, which are healthcare standards and similar to other integration tools.
These starter features have helped my integration work because most hospital EHR systems support HL7 messages and some support APIs, for example FHIR, allowing us to reach more clients using this.
Automation and the built-in autopilot AI are features I would highlight, which help us automate tasks. Instead of writing logic myself, I use the AI to assist in writing logic and conduct code reviews.
What needs improvement?
Rhapsody EMPI could be improved in several areas.
The needed improvements include automation not being one hundred percent complete; although it helps us a lot, it sometimes requires manual intervention for edge cases.
Other improvements needed for Rhapsody EMPI include the initial configuration complexity and the requirement for manual intervention in some cases; everything else is good.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Rhapsody EMPI for almost one year.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
In my experience, Rhapsody EMPI is stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Rhapsody EMPI is very scalable; you just need good infrastructure for that, and we can scale it.
How are customer service and support?
I did not get a chance to work with customer support much, but when I did, the support personnel were very helpful.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Before using Rhapsody EMPI, I worked with different integration engines such as Mirth Connect and Cloverleaf, and I switched because Rhapsody gives us more control over the integration part.
How was the initial setup?
I chose eight out of ten because it offers a vast area to work on, yet initial configuration is very complex and often requires manual intervention, which causes some issues.
What was our ROI?
I have seen a return on investment with Rhapsody EMPI, as we saved time using it. While I am not sure about the money saved, having someone knowledgeable in Rhapsody can facilitate a lot of integration, which simplifies maintenance and saves time.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
I explored other options before choosing Rhapsody EMPI, including Cloverleaf and other open-source integration tools.
What other advice do I have?
I would rate Rhapsody EMPI an eight out of ten.
Regarding Rhapsody EMPI's AI capabilities, I am not sure about governance and security, but I believe if they use AI, it must be HIPAA compliant.
I find Rhapsody EMPI's accuracy and reliability of output to be not entirely dependable, but I would say it is pretty reliable, so you do not have to worry about it.
We have deployed Rhapsody EMPI on-premises as well as on a private cloud.
For private cloud deployment, we used Azure, GCP, and AWS.
My advice for others looking into using Rhapsody EMPI is that if your work is based on interoperability and integration with different healthcare standards, this is the best tool in the market right now to use and scale with.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?
