Ubiquiti UniFi Switches Reviews

We are a customer of Ubiquiti. The key for us is the switch. The edge with the core switch, servicing office environments. I believe we use the US-48 and US-24, with a 10 gig with the SFP+ port. We have about 200 deployments scheduled for the next few weeks, so I'd say in total we will have 200 to 300 people involved and we plan to increase usage. 

The ability to manage firmware revisions is probably the most valuable feature. 

The management console could be improved, It's very, very slow. In the next release, I'd like to see some amalgamation of the two different consoles. I believe it's difficult to manage both the WiFi on the edge switches in the same console. Some more SFP+ ports would also be helpful. They should also try lowering the price of cloud management, it's mostly about management. If you can manage it quickly, and it's a little more cost-effective to manage it in the cloud, that would be a big improvement. 

I've been using the product for six months. 

The stability so far has been very good. No downtime, no outages.

It's a scalable solution but the limit on the number of 10 gig ports was an issue.

Our technical support is carried out through a third party so I haven't had any experience with that. 

The company previously has another solution but I wasn't involved with that. I was responsible for the company switching to UniFi.

The setup was straightforward and deployment took about three weeks. We used a consultant for the process and were very satisfied. 

We haven't had to pay any licensing costs at all.

Something people need to look out for is the cost of cloud management. For us, that's been handled externally at the moment, so we're not actually paying for that directly. It's something people should consider with Ubiquiti.

I would rate this product an eight out of 10. 

We primarily use the solution to enhance the availability of power on our network. It's also used to speed up the traffic.

The interface and the duality are the solution's most valuable features.

Some of the features needed to set up the solution are too complex. There's a lot of technical information that is required. 

The solution could use a central console to manage all devices.

I've been using the solution for about one year.

The solution is stable. Up until now, we haven't experienced any issues.

The solution is scalable. If you are comparing it with some other brands in terms of scalability, I would say it performs the same.

We haven't had a reason to contact technical support yet.

We were using Cisco switches previously. We have a mixed environment, so we have various routing switches in use.

The difficulty of the initial setup depends on what purpose the solution has or how you want to set up the switch. If you limit it to the basic functionality, then the initial set up is quite simple. If you want to have something more advanced on the switch, then it's a bit tricky. Our team deployed the solution in about five days. You only need one person for deployment and maintenance.

In comparison with other brands, there isn't too much difference in the pricing. They're all pretty similar.

We did evaluate other options. Mostly, we were looking at pricing, which is why we chose this solution.

We use the on-premises deployment model.

I would recommend implementing this solution because it's quite easy. The brand seems to be a bit unknown in the Romanian market because there is not so much advertising for it. Other brands like Cisco or Hubbard are often more common and suggested by local vendors.

I'd rate it eight out of ten.

Our primary use case of this solution is to support our users by providing internet services and university academic system software resources.

I like the control one has with this solution; you manage everything from one central point. Everything including the devices and the switches. So the centralized management is one thing that I really like about Ubiquiti.

I've been using the solution for three months only, so I can't say if it is stable or not. But I've had no glitches or bugs so far. 

The Ubiquiti switches are my access switches. I use Cisco for my edge and I wanted to see if I can have some copying prototypes to so that I wouldn't have problems in the design. I'm yet to do that, if I can have a common configuration that's compatible with the Cisco switches for the core and for the distribution and then Ubiquity for the access. But I can't comment much on it yet.

I'm still using Cisco, but I switched to Ubiquity for the access because I want to leverage on the price tag on Ubiquity. 

The setup was straightforward. So far working on the solution has been a learning curve. I'm in Ghana and there's no training center here, so I learn by using the online tutorials. 

A vendor came to deploy the solution for me.

Yes, we have evaluated Tradenet, D-link, Huawei and Cisco too. 

I will rate this solution an eight out of ten.

We are a tech services company and this is one of the solutions that we provide to our customers. I have worked a great deal with Ubiquiti switches and other products.

The primary use case for this solution is to supply power to access points and Voice over IP devices. For example, we install one 24-port switch so that we can connect multiple devices into it, and then create different VLANs.

The most valuable feature is that you can manage everything through the Cloud Key UniFi controller.

The fact that you can manage everything including the switch-level configuration, and access point configuration of both the wireless networks and the LAN, is very useful.

The GUI interface is very easy to use and the Linux-based command-line interface is also good. I am happy with the interface.

The price of this solution should be more competitive.

The technical support for this solution could be improved.

There was a point where I had to create cases with technical support because I couldn't access the Cloud Key. However, those issues seem to have been resolved with updates that have been done. At this point, it is running well.

I have not tried stacking these switches, so I cannot say. It seems to me that it should be fine if you are going to make trunks between the switches, but I haven't done this yet.

I have performed fourteen installations, and some of our customers have approximately one hundred and fifty users.

I was in contact with technical support for issues with the Cloud Key. I would rate them three out of five. The technical support for this solution could be better.

The initial setup of this solution is quite straightforward. You just add the SSH key onto a Cloud controller, and from there you can do everything. Right from the first installation, I didn't need to check the manual.

I have been installing the Ubiquiti 8-port and 24-port, 500 Watt PoE switches, together with the access point. Most of the time, we don't just install the switch, but in combination with the access points.

The time for deployment depends on the configuration. If you are only setting up an access point then it is quite straightforward because it doesn't need to worry about VLAN. But, if you need multiple VLANs then it's going to take longer to configure. For example, if you're going to make one VLAN for somebody at home then it's no time at all. However, if you need to make ten or twenty VLANs then it's going to take you some time. I can't say how long, because again, it depends on the installation.

This solution does not charge for technical support. Unlike vendors such as Cisco Meraki, there is no cost for licensing.

This is a solution that I recommend. It's simple to use, and the installation and configuration are pretty straightforward. Anyone who has a little bit of experience with switches and firewalls could use it.

I would rate this solution a nine out of ten.

The solution's most valuable feature is its reliability.

We've had issues with the power supply. I've had to change the power supply twice. I'm not sure what the issue is. We're still trying to work out why we're having problems with the switches and the cutting of the power supply. The solution should look into this to see if there is something wrong with the product.

We've never had to reach out to technical support.

I've previously used other solutions, including Cisco, Brocade, and HP. We use all of these. It depends on what the client prefers or the budget of the project. There aren't big technical differences between any of these.

You only have a one-time payment when you purchase the solution. The pricing isn't subscription-based. This particular solution is very cost-effective.

The solution's initial setup is straightforward.

The solution's deployment doesn't take too long and can be done within 10 to 15 minutes. To deploy the solution, you must have the controller, connect everything up, adopt it, and then go into your settings. It doesn't take long.

We are a small company, and I do all the deployment myself.

I would recommend Ubiquiti UniFi Switches to other users because it is stable, reliable, and easy to deploy.
