SkySQL stands out for its SQL compatibility, relational database compatibilities, and support for structured data workloads. It helps simplify database querying and data access for reporting and analysis. I also value its potential to scale with growing workloads, and overall, its usefulness depends on workload requirements, query performance, and ease of management. Security should focus on strong access control and data encryption, with reliable protection of sensitive information. Clear governance policies, auditing, and compliance controls are important for maintaining trust. I would also value transparent documentation of any AI-related capabilities and how SkySQL handles customer data, as security and privacy are essential for enterprise database workloads. For AI-generated output, accuracy and reliability are important considerations. I would expect results to be consistent, explainable, and validated against the underlying data before being used for important decisions. I haven't extensively evaluated SkySQL's AI-specific capabilities, so I cannot confidently assess their accuracy and reliability firsthand. SkySQL appears to be deployed on a private, organizational, and on-premises basis. I am not certain which cloud provider is used for SkySQL deployment. I understand that some of our infrastructure is managed internally, but I would need to confirm with the database or IT team whether SkySQL is hosted on a cloud provider or fully on-premises. I recommend evaluating SkySQL based on your workload requirements, query performance, scalability, security, and total cost. Test it with realistic data and queries before adopting it, and ensure that the available support and monitoring tools meet your operational needs. My overall rating for SkySQL is ten out of ten.
Reducing our team size has significantly affected efficiency and costs for our organization. This cost efficiency benefit resulted from replacing two infrastructure team members since the infrastructure work is now automated, eliminating the need for a dedicated infrastructure team. This is very helpful for cost optimization and provides complete monitoring capabilities. You can view server health and optimization from a central point, allowing visibility into when you receive higher data volumes and when volumes are lower.Regarding SkySQL's AI capabilities, we are using the AI functionality to write SQL queries. Whenever we face issues with SQL queries that join multiple tables, we use the AI capability to fix errors automatically. This saves considerable time for data engineers. The accuracy and reliability of SkySQL's AI output is quite consistent. We conducted a proof of concept comparing manually written SQL queries with queries generated by SkySQL's AI capabilities, and both approaches yielded the same results. This demonstrated that the AI functionality is highly accurate. My advice to others evaluating SkySQL is that if you are primarily working on analytics, business intelligence, or reporting, other options such as Databricks or Snowflake may provide higher functionality related to analytics and GenAI. However, if you are working with a transactional database or seeking a platform to store transactional data, SkySQL is worth evaluating. I have rated this product an eight out of ten overall.
