Though India is waiting for the 5G launch (Almost set to launch), it is going to be another revolution in the Indian telecom industry with high-performance data speed use cases in cellular network segments like 4G, 3G for end users internet or business internet experience (as per global feedback).
However, SD-WAN will remain SD-WAN with the availability of one more reliable type of data transport connection in addition to MPLS, ILL, DIA, BIA, Broadband, Sattelite and 4G (would be replaced by 5G, like 4G replaced 3G and so on).
SD-WAN will continue to fulfill, enterprises' requirements of secured VPN intranet and direct Internet access requirements with a lot more benefits like traffic shaping, integrated security, etc., over and above the traditional combination of MPLS-VPN or IP-Sec VPN and internet needs.
Summary:
5G will be adding growth to SD-WAN, Cloud hosting, SASE and boost to much more work from anywhere solutions.
5G would be one more better quality data transport type in the cellular network.
5G and SD-WAN are not to compare but to compliment each other as the future of business solutions.

SD-WAN is a method for connecting multiple sites within a single network utilizing two or more network connections. The network connections can be internet, MPLS, or private line.
5G is a medium for delivering internet, so it can be used for one of the aforementioned connections. Keep in mind that private 5G is on the rise, where bandwidth is dedicated to the subscriber, resulting in a more stable and robust connection.

5G is a tech standard for cellular networks.
In SD-WAN you can use multiple IP connections simultaneously (or as backup or failover) to provide you more reliability/speed/diversity for your application(s), etc. So, 5G connections could be used as one or more of your SD-WAN connections.
5G technology breaks the traditional CAPEX investments in terms of physical access deployments to reach our end customers because this wireless medium comes with quality of service, guaranteed bandwidth and better features than its predecessors, which is why it no longer works if necessary to carry out massive fiber optic deployments. This implies that investments must go to 5G technology and thus achieve homologation with traditional technologies, becoming a valid option to access the SDWAN network that, in simple terms, makes the best decision in real time using all available accesses to deliver. the best customer experience for a service supported by an application.
SD-WAN is a Software-Defined WAN and it can be used to route specific traffic from a subnet (or subnets) through a specific gateway.
It can be related when the admin decides to route a traffic over a gateway to balance the bandwidth or when a traffic from a subnet needs to be routed over a specific gateway.
Except that, these two tecnologies are network types, protocols, etc... They can be related when one of those need to have a specific load balancing or a specific gateway.
And it's obvius that there are more things included in these two technologies' relation. I only gave a litte resume of everything.

If you need diversity for your SD-WAN deployment, then a 5G Ethernet gateway may work. The price is comparable to a cable and the performance is decent. Just be careful of the costs when your main circuit is down for a long stretch.
