Totally agree with the license costs. HP had a Site, Area and Global license depending on geographical location of offices and usage of ALM. They now only have the global license which means you have to pay double the cost of what we were used to. Not competitive anymore.
Unfortunately for now the only scripting language supported by QTP/UFT is VBscript.
However, HP has plans to have QTP/UFT accomodate more languages but that's in the future.
