We use HDID to simplify complex business-defined policies for our service-level objectives regarding data availability and retention. We had certain setbacks earlier, so we asked Hitachi to come down and do a POC for us, and it went well, so we went ahead with the HDID and on E590 Storage.

It requires some time to understand the concept at the beginning but once you get used to it, it is fairly self explanatory.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using Hitachi Data Instance Director for one year.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
HDID is pretty stable so far. It requires a bit of configuration hassle in the implementation, but once it is configured according to your needs, it's running phenomenally well.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
HDID is quite scalable. If you are using it with VMware, you won't have any scalability challenges.
How are customer service and support?
We haven't needed Hitachi support since the deployment, but contacted support for some integration issues, and the problem was resolved in half an hour.

Setting up HDID is fairly easy.
What about the implementation team?
We along with Hitachi team, have successfully deployed the solution. Their expertise and domain knowledge was very good.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
List all your requirements and architect the solution with Hitachi to make sure that it meets your needs, as well as future growth. Also, add the underlying hardware into the cost model as well. Determine what type of hitachi hardware will meet your performance requirements.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We are a bit restless. When we need things, we need them yesterday. Hitachi was the only company who responded quickly with the POC, proposals and technical discussions. When we have asked other vendors to provide a technical solution, they were a bit late, and we were in hurry.
What other advice do I have?
I rate Hitachi Data Instance Director 10 out of 10. I would recommend it depending on your requirements. If you have a larger and more complex operation, data availability and retention will give you a headache HDID is what you need.
Enterprises with a large data volume and high business complexity, should absolutely go for HDID to get some peace of mind.
