I use Hitachi Ops Center and Protector to create Thin Image, Shadow Image, and for remote replication. We also connect to Site Recovery Manager to replicate virtual machines to another site. We have two sites, one office, and a disaster recovery site. We need to copy data from one site to another.
What is our primary use case?
What is most valuable?
The features of Hitachi Universal Replicator that I use include data flow, monitor, and Data Mobility Services. We have Data Mobility Services resource pool and resource group mirror unique allocated. Features like source journal, destination image, remote path, volume name, and capacity saving mode are valuable. De-duplication, compression, and capacity saving processing mode are essential. Other useful aspects are storage target, default data reduction, shared volume, and automatic journal creation. These features work synchronously for tasks like remote cloning or universal replication.
What needs improvement?
I think the graphical user interface can be more user-friendly. Although it is easy and intuitive now, there is always room for improvement regarding user interaction.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have used Hitachi Universal Replicator for about two years, but it does not work fast and needs time to copy data. We have about forty terabytes, and although tested, it has not met the speed needs.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution works better in the latest release compared to the previous one. However, at times, it sends alerts for any job. It is not a big problem now.
How are customer service and support?
I use technical support from a local partner. When I open an issue with Hitachi directly, they answer promptly and correctly.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Neutral
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I am not familiar with the pricing of Hitachi Universal Replicator. The storage purchase includes this feature, but a license is needed for replication, shadow image, and thin image.
What other advice do I have?
Generally speaking, when using Protectors, with Universal Replicator being part of Protector, it is easy to update data to our database systems, create new database systems, and test systems. It takes a maximum of one hour to update our database data and create new servers. It is effortless to move data from one server to another. I would rate Hitachi Universal Replicator eight out of ten.
