What is our primary use case?
What is most valuable?
The storage capacity is one of the most valuable features.
The GUI is very friendly and the switches give high performance. The technology used in storage is RAID which has helped us a lot to expand and store various items.
What needs improvement?
The handling of data deletion and bulk servers setup could have been more straightforward and easier when dealing with data removal or setting up servers. I believe Huawei could enhance their solutions, especially managing storage, to provide a better experience for customers.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Huawei OceanStor 9000 for more than 3-4 years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It is stable and I would rate it 9 out of 10.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It is scalable and utilizes small form factor disk drives, including all SSDs, each with a capacity of one terabyte. We still have the flexibility to add more drives to further scale up the storage capacity. I would rate it a nine out of ten.
How was the initial setup?
It took significantly longer to set up the solution with Huawei compared to other options. But when creating servers for VMware virtualization in one data center, it was a relatively quick process.
The Huawei's solution, even with the assistance of an engineer, took more than one month, possibly extending to two months. Chinese engineers were involved in the process, which contributed to the delays.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The installation is expensive as they often come as a comprehensive package. The design is more integrated, and everything is bundled together as part of the solution. This is what contributes to the higher cost of their solutions because when you purchase one element, it often comes with additional features and components, and you end up paying for the entire package.
