What is our primary use case?
Our main use case for Nimesa Backup and Recovery for AWS is that we were looking for a backup and recovery solution that could provide centralized protection for our AWS workload and help us reduce the operational effort, which we have invested significantly in native tools that do not have most of the capabilities we need. This solution can improve our recovery capabilities for business-critical applications. Based on that need, we chose this backup and recovery solution.
Having aware backup and multiple instances backup capabilities helped us with centralized management.
How has it helped my organization?
Nimesa Backup and Recovery for AWS has positively impacted my organization by reducing our backup administration effort. Our backup administration effort decreased as Nimesa optimized our backup operations through automation and efficient backup management. In our environment, it helped us improve our backup visibility, recovery readiness, and operational efficiency. We also observed efficient utilization of the backup storage. Although the exact storage savings depend on our workload, it helped us work in a scripted way and utilize our storage very efficiently.
What is most valuable?
Nimesa Backup and Recovery for AWS helped us automate backup scheduling and policy management. It also gave us centralized visibility by providing a dashboard across AWS workloads of multiple accounts. It helps us with a faster recovery process and majorly reduces our operational overhead while improving our ransomware and data protection.
Nimesa Backup and Recovery for AWS has positively impacted my organization by reducing our backup administration effort. Although the exact storage savings depend on our workload, it helped us work in a scripted way and really utilize our storage very efficiently.
Nimesa Backup and Recovery for AWS improves ransomware protection and data security by automating backup protection and monitoring. We reduced the risk of missed backups and improved recovery readiness. Recovery testing that previously took several hours could be completed significantly faster and helped us strengthen our resiliency against ransomware, accidental deletion of backups or protected files, and data corruption scenarios. We had validated backup policies, and many times the recovery process was more efficient, giving us good confidence that crucial business data could be restored within the required recovery objective and recovery time objective.
What needs improvement?
Nimesa Backup and Recovery for AWS can be improved by adding reporting capability and the possibility for predictive insights if a backup is going to fail earlier, as we have with artificial intelligence-driven solutions. Additionally, more compression or deduplication to optimize storage would be beneficial, and if it could be integrated to allow us to create policies using an infrastructure as code framework, that would provide an easier, automated way to manage policies.
Regarding Nimesa Backup and Recovery for AWS's artificial intelligence capabilities, I think its governance and security should improve more as they are not on par. Prediction of backup failure should be available, and it is not that accurate.
I am not entirely sure about the accuracy and reliability of the artificial intelligence output because it is not that accurate. I have not used it that much. Since I saw that the basic configuration and backup configuration worked well, the solution has been reliable in our experience with consistent backup execution and successful recovery testing. Automated monitoring and alerting helped identify issues proactively, which improves confidence in recovery objectives and recovery time objectives.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Nimesa Backup and Recovery for AWS for approximately one and a half years.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Nimesa Backup and Recovery for AWS's scalability is based on the workload. They suggest what kind of instance we need to use, so that is straightforward based on the workload.
How are customer service and support?
Regarding customer support, as this is a very new product and relatively new in the market, I am not sure how long they have been around, but there seems to be a lack of understanding with the support team. They take a lot of time and change priorities as well.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Previously, we relied on native AWS backup mechanisms and manual processes. While those approaches provide basic protection, they require more administrative efforts for monitoring and reporting across all accounts. Nimesa provided a more centralized and automated approach and improved operational efficiency, which is why we switched.
What was our ROI?
I have not seen a return on investment in terms of money saved as it is an additional product. However, compared to native solutions, it is saving costs through optimized storage utilization for our backup policy based on the retention we need and the frequency of backups. Automated backup policies and protection, along with aware backups, helped us. In this case, operationally, it also reduced the operational burden with respect to alerting and improved operational efficiency.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
My experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing is that it is straightforward with nothing specific to note.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Before choosing Nimesa Backup and Recovery for AWS, I evaluated other options, including AWS native backup and Veeam.
What other advice do I have?
The advice I would give to others looking into Nimesa Backup and Recovery for AWS is that if an organization wants to clearly define their recovery objective and recovery time objective before implementing and align backup policy accordingly, I recommend integrating Nimesa into operational monitoring processes and conducting regular recovery testing to validate business continuity requirements. For an organization with multiple AWS accounts and critical workloads, Nimesa can help standardize backup operations and improve visibility, which can also help reduce the operational burden. I rate this product an eight overall.
