Oracle Enterprise Manager Reviews

I am using Oracle Enterprise Manager for reporting and have implemented it for our reports and some automation, but most of the automation is built by Ansible or GitLab.

Oracle Enterprise Manager is used beyond database administrators, though I have not implemented Oracle Enterprise Manager for other departments other than database administrators. We are only using it for database management, not for other vendors or application developers that can also perform tasks in it or want to have access to it for database parameters or reports.

The functions and features of Oracle Enterprise Manager that I have found most valuable are its evolution from being problematic in 10g and 11g versions to becoming better and more stable. Now it has become a significantly improved product. We have integrated identity management, and we are using it for normal database examination, tuning, and performance. We are working with STATSPACK and similar tools that are integrated in Oracle Enterprise Manager. We are currently working with version 13.5, having upgraded from 13.4 last year.

Automation is useful for improving operational efficiency, and there are many more opportunities to automate outside the databases. Not many things need to be automated inside the databases. We have jobs running, imports, exports, and similar tasks. To automate these processes, we utilize the Scheduler from Oracle, which is managed in the databases by the vendor. This is not part of our DBA functions in Oracle Enterprise Manager.

Regarding the current version, the main point for improvement for Oracle Enterprise Manager was previously related to bugs which created significant issues. Currently, it works better and has more stability. It crashes less frequently, which provides a better experience.

Regarding functionality, I am not totally satisfied with the features from Oracle Enterprise Manager as it can always be improved. Sometimes navigation can be challenging, but I manage due to my extensive experience.

I have been working with Oracle Enterprise Manager since version 8i.

The initial setup for Oracle Enterprise Manager is complex.

Regarding stability, I have experienced some crashes, but these issues are manageable.

I would rate the scalability for Oracle Enterprise Manager as very good, giving it an eight out of ten.

I usually figure out how to resolve issues independently. Sometimes I post an SR at Oracle, but I often find a solution before receiving a response. When contacting My Oracle Support, I encounter first-line support initially, which is inadequate as I require more in-depth support. This necessitates escalation to second-line support, though I typically need third-line support.

I would rate the pricing of Oracle Enterprise Manager as very expensive, definitely deserving a 10 out of 10.

Oracle Enterprise Manager is primarily designed for Oracle databases. While it can manage other database solutions such as SQL, we do not utilize it for those purposes. It is an Oracle-based management tool, so we are using it for Oracle Enterprise Edition. Regarding other products such as PostgreSQL or MySQL, the latter can be run in Oracle Enterprise Manager as it is now owned by Oracle. MySQL has a second variant called MariaDB, but Oracle has acquired that as well, making it compatible with Oracle Enterprise Manager.

I am not working with any AI technology with Oracle Enterprise Manager as there is still no AI database or replication repository in it. I prefer to maintain this arrangement. If more AI capabilities are needed, I would implement them outside the databases rather than integrating them into the mission-critical environment.

I rate Oracle Enterprise Manager a 7 out of 10.

I am still working with Oracle products. I would like to leave my opinion on some other Oracle products that I have been working with lately. I am working on many Oracle products for database administration, for clusters, Data Guard, GoldenGate, and some features like TDE, Vault, and Oracle Enterprise Manager.

I am also working with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, specifically Grid Infrastructure. I am not working with Oracle VDI, Virtual Desktop Infrastructure, but I am able to work with any product. Could you clarify if you mean ODI, Oracle Data Integrator, or ODA, Oracle Database Appliance?

I am not dealing with Oracle BPM or Exadata, as I am working on Oracle database on normal servers, like Oracle Clusters on normal servers, not Exadata. I work with Oracle Database Clusters, including Data Guard, TDE, Vault, and Oracle Enterprise Manager on normal servers, not Exadata.

The features I find most valuable in Oracle Enterprise Manager are related to performance tuning. Oracle Enterprise Manager helps me investigate and extract what the issue is, rather than just observing the Oracle environment. The most features I prefer are related to performance tuning of the database.

I am using the monitoring capabilities of Oracle Enterprise Manager for monitoring database performance, bottlenecks, and peaks during the day and rush hours. I extract findings and recommendations for transactions that cause bottlenecks and congestion in the database. We then fix this according to the nature of that issue.

The weaknesses I would like to address in Oracle Enterprise Manager involve the dealing of Grid Infrastructure. Oracle Enterprise Manager's handling of Grid Infrastructure needs some improvement.

I want to see additional features in the future that deal with security in relation to Oracle Grid Infrastructure. I want to improve these two components.

I am working with Data Guard.

I am indeed working with Oracle Enterprise Manager and have experience with these tools myself. The current implementation at my site contains all the features, including Cluster, Data Guard, Oracle Enterprise Manager, TDE, and Vault. I am working with all these features in real database environments. I do not deal with Real Application Testing. My overall rating for this product is 9.

I use Oracle Enterprise Manager for real-time monitoring. It allows me to see what SQL is running and which SQL is consuming a lot of time. It also provides a session browser to monitor which user is doing what.

Oracle Enterprise Manager helps me ensure I am connected to the right database and provides confidence in running operations in the correct region. It allows me to manage resources effectively and monitor active sessions.

The tool is beneficial for troubleshooting and provides time-based monitoring. It also has features like the AWR report, which helps analyze resource usage during specific times.

Setting up the Oracle Enterprise Manager is challenging as it requires setting up a separate server.

I have been using Oracle Enterprise Manager for ten years.

This is a great product, and I have never faced any stability issues.

This is a monitoring tool, not a resource itself, so scalability is not a major concern.

The installation is a little bit harder since it requires creating a server to run. It's the hardest part of using Oracle Enterprise Manager.

The licensing is based on the core, and it is required to have a server for the solution.

I would recommend Oracle Enterprise Manager to others. It is a great tool for monitoring purposes.

We use the platform to identify issues, find SQL that needs to be rewritten, and work with indexes. While some clients use it for scheduling backups, we predominantly focus on tuning. In our environment, which includes various client setups, we use Oracle Enterprise Manager to address reported slowdowns by analyzing SQL activity during specific timeframes to identify the root causes of performance issues.

The solution's most valuable feature is the ability to examine SQL code, track how many times it’s been parsed and used, and utilize this data for tuning. 

The platform's interface could be more streamlined. Currently, there are multiple ways to navigate to a specific point, which can be confusing.

Additionally, there could be further enhancements in AI-driven analytics or more intuitive navigation.

I have been using Oracle Enterprise Manager for 10 years. 

The product is very stable when set up correctly. I rate the stability a nine out of ten. 

The solution is scalable. It can be used effectively in environments ranging from single database nodes to hundreds of nodes, making it adaptable to various sizes of organizations.

The initial setup requires some knowledge but is fairly straightforward, especially compared to other Oracle products like WebLogic.

The deployment process involves several key steps. First, you must scope out the server to ensure it has enough memory and proper access to your monitoring machines. Then, it's about laying down the footprint, bringing the system up, and connecting it to the necessary nodes you want to manage. The process can vary depending on the organization's needs and how extensively they plan to use the tool.

It takes a few days to complete, depending on the existing environment and versions. There’s some groundwork needed, such as verifying compatibility and ensuring the correct version is used, but once installation begins, it can typically be completed in a day.

The product saves a lot of time by eliminating the need for manual queries against metadata. Instead of typing SQL or loading scripts, you can point-and-click functionality to get the answers you need.

The product is highly-priced. 

Ensure that those responsible for the setup are experienced with Oracle Enterprise Manager, and clearly define your monitoring and tuning needs upfront. It’s also important to have a knowledgeable DBA to handle the configuration and ongoing management of the solution.

I rate it a nine out of ten. 

We use the this GUI  tool for small industries and enterprises. It acts as a Server controller and monitoring of its mostly activities  

It is a GUI Tool that is used to check the live severs monitoring activity 

Oracle Enterprise Manager helps to control servers.Mostly its load and performance and its disks utilization

The tool's pricing is costly.

I have been using the product for 23 years. 

It is a stable thing

My company has four to five users for Oracle Enterprise Manager. It is a  scalable product 

We raise our questions on oracle  Metalink whenever we are stuck. We face problems on the ERP application level and not the database level.

We use multiple tools like Grid, oracle OEM and Toad is also helpful for  monitoring and live activity specially for DDL commands. 

The tool's deployment is easy. If you deploy it, Oracle Enterprise Manager becomes a part of your installation process. After completing the server installation, you get control of Oracle Enterprise Manager. This process involves creating your account, password, and operating system password. With these credentials, you gain full command and control over it. The tool's maintenance is easy. Maintenance is critical for Oracle Enterprise Manager, especially considering it provides full server command and control. This is particularly relevant for Linux units, as most users opt for Linux over Windows for security reasons. We have two to three resources handling maintenance. We have around 50-100 servers. If your organization has ten servers, one person is enough to handle it. 

We have 95% inhouse software development team. just 5% have outsource product these are small level application. 

Initially, our deal was for three years, and we extended it to five years. Oracle solutions are very costly. We have totally our solution and including hardware with its license. we have no product either it is a hardware or software is not without its license. we have our separate department whose is deal such type of license cost 

It is not so much mandatory because this tool has limited features not all types of features

I would recommend the product to friends and colleagues, especially those using Huawei products. Huawei is not good in terms of performance. I rate Oracle Enterprise Manager a ten out of ten. 

We use the solution for monitoring and alerting.

The job subsystem, monitoring subsystem, alerting, grouping of targets, and reporting features are valuable to us. Sending alerts based on groups is also useful. The product serves the purpose that we are using it for. We are very satisfied.

The product must improve its support team.

I have been using the solution for 12 years.

We have around 300 customers. Almost every customer that is present in our environment is using the product.

Support for the internal workings is not well documented. The solution’s engineers have to run after the senior engineers whenever any complex issue occurs. It causes a delay when we create a support request.

The initial setup is complex. It requires two server setups. It took us five to six hours to deploy the solution due to its complexity and the number of components present.

We need two DBAs to deploy and maintain the solution.

I am not sure about the pricing. The pricing terms change every year. It depends on the customer’s infrastructure and environment.

We need to install plugins for integration. It is pretty much covered within the tool. It requires additional licensing, and we do not require integration. I would recommend the solution to others. We can use it for monitoring and alerting purposes, and it is a very good tool. Overall, I rate the tool a nine out of ten.

It is a good tool for monitoring databases. It enhances the overall visibility within the database.

The older version of the product works with Flash technology. Although the latest version works with Java, it still requires Flash technology. It should utilize only a Java plugin to visualize your dashboard. Additionally, It is complicated to run it on Google Chrome.

We have been Oracle Enterprise Manager since 2012. At present, we use the 13c version.

It is a stable platform.

We have 5000 Oracle Enterprise Manager users in our organization. We have a team of 20 administrators to manage. Additionally, we plan to increase the usage in the future.

The product’s technical resources should cooperate with us during the shifts. We have to wait as they transfer cases to other resources according to their shifts.

We switched to Oracle Database Appliance from the commodity server for better compatibility and performance.

The product is easy to implement as we are familiar with Oracle solutions. We can download and import it to a virtual box or infrastructure through their website.

The product’s troubleshooting capabilities and visibility justifies the investment.

The product’s price is reasonable. It works well for database server visibility. It helps us understand the cost of database monitoring.

I rate Oracle Enterprise Manager a ten out of ten.

The solution’s pricing could be improved.

Oracle Enterprise Manager is a scalable solution. Around 500 users are using the solution in our organization, and we have plans to increase the usage.
