GDPR compliance and enabling users to understand the transformation of data from one database to another. It is used mainly as a data catalog for data discovery, allowing users to understand the data assets and their transformation rules.

More and more users are actively using the platform to understand the data, the owners/stewards and point of contacts. Information about DSAR compliance APIs are documented in the Catalog, which acts as a centralized information repository for DSAR processing.  

The UI is straightforward for technical users with organized features under different modules like data catalog and business glossary. The role-based access control and integration with the directory system allow strict governance and limited user access. The APIs are comprehensive, enabling integration with other systems even for creating virtual data catalogs.

The lack of connectivity to mainframe systems and the complexity of integration with legacy data systems are areas needing improvement. Advanced jobs require extra training and fine-tuning, making them hard to grasp. The automatic upgrade process needs stabilizing.

We had performance issues in the past, however, it is okay now.

With Rancher for deployment, scaling up and down is super easy and works well even with the Helm chart.

The technical support is very flexible and accommodative, helping to troubleshoot and fix issues during integration.

Not really. Some info such as Stewards were kept in Active Directory. But we did not have a data catalog.

The initial setup was complex, requiring tech support involvement due to non-compatible default configurations and issues during database structure changes in upgrades.

Helm chart was provided. We may be able to deploy it on our own. But Ovaledge offered support to ensure smoother installation

The primary use case was GDPR compliance, which has been met. The data discovery feature has reduced the engineering team's support workload by enabling self-service for data queries.

The pricing is affordable compared to other tools, and we opted for 500 user license.

Over time, OvalEdge has improved significantly. While there are many open-source tools available, OvalEdge offers better flexibility and security.

The reports part is good because most of the competitors in data governance support data catalog and data lineage. We can create different reports and dashboards in Kubernetes, which other competitors do not have. It helps a business glossary. If you have data with a name, you can have the business description written for that particular data through AI.

Implementing artificial intelligence in managing data is crucial due to the numerous challenges encountered when handling tasks manually. For instance, creating tags and terms can be time-consuming when dealing with an extensive dataset comprising millions of rows extracted from client sources to build knowledge. Leveraging artificial intelligence to automate this task would significantly enhance efficiency and usability for the end-user, eliminating the need for manual tagging and typing.

I have been using OvalEdge for two years.

The solution is very scalable.

The initial setup is neither easy nor difficult. It's moderate. We have many CSM guys, a support team, and an account management team to help. It usually takes a week to complete, depending on the use cases.

The solution is cheaper than competitors like IBM and Collibra and has good features.

We are releasing version 6.2 next month. In this new release, our main focus is to ensure the product is stable and bug-free so users won't face any issues. Previously, we had planned to release it earlier, but we took an additional month to fix bugs, resulting in a much more stable version now.

Overall, I rate the solution a nine out of ten.
