What is our primary use case?
I'm more familiar with Precisely Trillium because Precisely acquired Data360, which they marketed for data governance. Precisely Trillium is a product that competes against Collibra and Alation. Alation was originally a catalog tool, which is the foundation of any data governance product, but they have since built out their solution to become more comprehensive in data governance.
I have experience selling against Collibra as a competitor, so I don't have direct experience working for them. I don't know the specifics of their tool; I just know what Precisely Trillium did versus Collibra.
The last time I used Precisely Trillium was in 2023, a couple of years ago, when I was selling it. I did not deal with these types of products much in the last 12 months, but as my current company is starting to build out more of the data governance components, I'll start to have direct competition in catalog with those firms. We're building out products that will bring together everything in terms of governance, including legal components, legal hold, in-place preservations, eDiscovery and the EDRM model for legal review, collection review, cyber forensics, and privacy solutions along with cataloging and governing all of that.
I dealt with Precisely Trillium as I sold it. Trillium is legacy terminology now, as they have rebranded. It's still discussed for legacy deployments, but that's not how they use that name anymore. Precisely Trillium is a data quality solution that addressed anybody who has data and data quality concerns. We had a wide variety of customers across various verticals, and I typically focused on financial services.
What is most valuable?
Precisely Trillium's best features include being a very comprehensive solution in terms of data quality. There are different types of data quality tools, and what Infogix had before being bought by Precisely focused more on reconciliation, whereas Precisely Trillium actually focused on correcting errors within the data set itself. This is a different perspective on data quality. Some of the functions and features that Infogix did in their data quality solution are different than the functions and features that Precisely Trillium did.
The data profiling feature of Precisely Trillium helps improve data integrity for certain clients by emphasizing the principle of bad data in, bad data out. It's important to have a data quality tool to ensure that your data is good because any calculations and business decisions that are made on this data are only as good as the data itself. It's extremely important to have good quality data, and Precisely Trillium serves to ensure the data quality.
What needs improvement?
There's always room for improvement with Precisely Trillium. The hottest thing right now is AI, and leveraging artificial intelligence to enhance your data quality is always a plus. That's probably a big driver for improvement. I haven't looked at what they're doing in a while, but most technology software vendors are incorporating some AI capabilities in their solutions.
For how long have I used the solution?
The last time I used Precisely Trillium was in 2023, a couple of years ago.
How are customer service and support?
The support for Precisely Trillium was decent, and Precisely is a big company with around 2,500 employees at that time. It's been a few years, and I've moved on to deal with many other products, companies, and pricing models. I can't really give a whole lot of background on this topic. You'd probably be better off speaking with someone who's still currently in that market space or reaching out to find a salesperson, subject matter expert, or solution engineer who might be able to give you feedback.
How would you rate customer service and support?
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I don't remember all the details about the pricing for Precisely Trillium as it was a while ago, but it was competitive. It was a premium product on a larger, higher end pricing tier. Even the Infogix product was similarly priced. However, you have to balance the value because you're making business decisions on this data and have to make sure that it's good. There's significant value in having tools that address data quality.
What other advice do I have?
I would assess the effectiveness of Precisely Trillium's data enrichment functions as strong, meaning it was a strong competitor in the marketplace. Precisely Trillium had a solid foundation, and we had several large financial institutions using it. We also had several large financial institutions using the Infogix product for reconciliation. Many of them used both after the acquisition for different purposes. I would rate this review an 8 out of 10.
