We use the Xilinx platform Vivado for FPGA projects and student projects.
What is our primary use case?
How has it helped my organization?
Xilinx work can be programmed using Xilinx Vivado Tools; we couldn't do it without it.
What is most valuable?
We use Xilinx as intended for FPGA programming because it is one of two software that can be used for FPGA programming.
What needs improvement?
The new versions, like Centos, are not stable when released, but they are usually fixed in a patch, which is generally two or three times a year.
In most cases, some board is missing in the free versions.
Some of the issues are defined, but all of this version cannot be easily found. There were issues that were not apparent prior to the program's installation. If those issues should be addressed in the base software version rather than patched after installation, it would bring the product's rating to a 10 out of 10.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Xilinx FPGA for six years.
We are currently working with versions 2018, 2019, and 2022.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It is extremely stable if the user does not use the most recent version of Xilinx Vivado Tools.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Xilinx FPGA is a scalable solution. It is scalable because it must be installed on every PC or server. We do not use server variants; instead, we install them on PCs.
We have more than 50 users in our organization.
As each student must have this solution installed, we intend to increase our usage.
How are customer service and support?
We have not contacted technical support. They have their forum, which is usually up-to-date.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We used an Altera solution, but we decided to go with the Xilinx software solution. We chose it because there are many different boards to use and it is more accessible.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is straightforward.
On a scale from one to five, with one being simple, I would rate the initial setup a one out of five.
One PC can be deployed in as little as 15 minutes.
What about the implementation team?
We completed the deployment in-house. We did not use a third-party vendor team.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I believe there is only one paid license, but I'm not sure.
Students typically use the free Academia license. The Academia license is free.
What other advice do I have?
Determine what PC they have and select the appropriate Xilinx version to install.
I would rate Xilinx FPGA a nine out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises
