Facilitates API exposure securely and highlights developer portal flexibility needs
Not much stands out for me regarding the advantages of this product. We usually don't tinker with it. Developing developer portals could be more standards-based. I think currently it's Ruby-based. Having more options on designing that would be beneficial. Additional flexibility would have been great; we would have used it more if it aligned with our platform. I don't use the analytics part. We don't use monetization features, which help to create a revenue generation model.

Comprehensive API management has improved monetization and streamlined secure integrations
Axway AMPLIFY API Management could be improved in terms of user interface and navigation, as it could be more user-friendly. There are no helping resources such as question marks or help icons to easily identify elements, making it difficult for new users to learn the platform without some form of training. The configuration and policy setups also require multiple steps, which complicates the process, and it would be easier if some steps could be skipped. Better analytics and reporting capabilities should provide improved trackability for API performance and consumer behavior. Documentation for advanced use cases would help reduce the learning curve. However, when trying to integrate with third parties, it can be quite difficult and requires a lot of authentication and authorization, which is better for security but poses challenges for new users trying to connect with a third party to transfer data between platforms. Additionally, the customization options for the dashboard are very limited, which restricts my ability to customize the entire dashboard meaningfully.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It's good that they aren't adding a lot of features like ESP, etc. It's okay with just being a gateway."
"Since we introduced the gateway, the API management has given us the ability to get on top of things."
"3scale API Management's best feature is API management."
"It simplifies exposing our APIs externally and inherently adds a layer of security, which I see as a positive impact from the product."
"3scale API Managment provides a platform facilitating Trusted Service Providers communicating with the service provider securely and efficiently, greatly enhancing direct business transactions and application to application communications."
"3scale API Management is a containerized product, so all its parts are deployed into containers, and standard deployment is very simple because it goes on the OpenShift."
"3scale: what a really good product to secure an unsecure API if you have multiple backend unsecured routes provided by an ESB (Red Hat Fuse), and available through one unique frontend acting as a secure gateway (with HTTPS protocol and API keys)."
"The gateway is the most valuable feature because it makes it possible for us to gather all traffic into one proxy, which is a good thing."
"Centralized API Platform allow us better reusability and monitoring"
"This product is reliable and stable."
"My advice for others considering Axway AMPLIFY API Management is that if you want a comprehensive API management solution that includes a good dashboard with analytics, log functionality, monetization, and security, everything comes under one roof, making Axway AMPLIFY API Management a solid choice."
"I don't believe the Salesforce has been fully utilized yet. It gives us quick engagement."
"Its flexibility allows us to adapt to different scenarios."
"The most useful features in Axway AMPLIFY API Management, in my opinion, primarily involve the security aspect of the product, which provides us very good methods of securing the network."
"It provides very strong security functionality to protect information in an easier way."
"I would recommend the solution for other people who want to start using it."

Cons

"What was suggested by Red Hat was a crucial part of the configuration, but when we started to ask about the supportability of this configuration, Red Hat said only some parts of the configuration would be supported."
"The product is not that flexible for developers. It's less flexible and rigid. It's not easy to make changes or customize it."
"The user experience could be better. The developer portal is too complex and hard to configure."
"In my previous company, I used Kong, and in my current company, I'm using 3scale API Management, but I prefer Kong."
"As much as we tried to implement 3scale API Management the incompatibility of the version did not allow us to proceed."
"What I'd like to improve in 3scale API Management is its route-limiting feature. Currently, I don't know how to do that effectively on the solution, but in Kong, I know how to do it, so I would love to see route-limiting being easily done on 3scale API Management. It would also be good if there was some authentication that you could do from 3scale API Management because Kong offers that functionality out of the box. What I'd love to see in the next release of 3scale API Management is the ability to integrate more plug-ins easily onto the platform, so you'll be able to extend it, and even do customs management. If Red Hat could offer that extension where it allows the internal organization where 3scale API Management is deployed on-premise to integrate its tools on top of 3scale API Management and provide an API for that, that will make the solution very powerful."
"I believe the CMS part of it has room for improvement though. That is where you write a couple of things if you want to publish your API. It's based on liquid scripting, which doesn't seem like the obvious ones to script with."
"It would be helpful to improve the customization features so that the customer can do it based on their own needs."
"The areas for enhancement should be improving certain filters within the solution. Although they are generally functional, there are occasional problems that could be more precisely adjusted. Additionally, the solution performs well within its workload limitations, but it may not be suitable for scaling up or managing a larger volume of transactions through the gateway. To address this, it may be necessary to adopt a unique architecture rather than relying on traditional pre-packaged options."
"It would be great if they have an asset report. It's hard to get support for that."
"Ultimately, from a very high-level overview, cloud platforms or Kong could have a slight advantage when compared to Axway AMPLIFY API Management."
"In terms of customer service, the company needs to be easier to contact, and the support team needs to understand the situation and the product itself better."
"The product shows a lack of maturity. The setup is difficult, the tech support and community are lacking, and it is not very stable."
"I would improve performance because most of the time we have to send the API several times and then get the notification that the API is received."
"I think that the program's team management capabilities can be better as far as working in groups."
"A significant area of improvement for Axway AMPLIFY API Management is the Amplify Central portal, which should help expose APIs on a webpage for potential customers."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I don't think that 3scale is very expensive."
"The pricing is affordable, it's cheap."
"3scale API Management has reasonable pricing, judging from its competitor, Kong. My organization pays yearly for the 3scale API Management license, though I'm unable to give the exact figure because every single day there are new clusters deployed. I'm in charge of three to four clusters in my team, but give or take, it costs a few thousand lakhs."
"The cost was around $45,000 per year."
"The solution is expensive. When you acquire a license you have full access to the solution, unlike other competitors such as Apigee X, where there are fragmented licenses. Some licenses only allow access to certain features while others allow access to more features. Upon procuring this solution's license, you will have full access to the solution, allowing you to experiment with all of its features."
