Centralized API gateway has improved microservice security and provided deep traffic analytics
Apigee's API gateway could be improved. There are some limitations for high throughputs, which we can address. Overall, Apigee is a robust API management platform where we can configure centralized traffic management, but there are a few areas for improvement. The developer experience could be more intuitive, especially for configurations and complex API proxies and policies. Debugging production issues can sometimes be challenging, so more detailed diagnostic and easier-to-use troubleshooting tools would be valuable. The analytics dashboard could offer more customization and deeper insights without requiring additional configuration. Simplifying pricing and licensing would make Apigee more accessible for smaller organizations. I would like better support for cloud-native deployments, Kubernetes integrations, and AI-assisted policy recommendations. I would also like to see AI-assisted troubleshooting, more customizable analytics and developer portal, better enterprise documentation, easier policy configuration, and a simplified licensing model to enhance both the developer experience and day-to-day operations.

Comprehensive API management has improved monetization and streamlined secure integrations
Axway AMPLIFY API Management could be improved in terms of user interface and navigation, as it could be more user-friendly. There are no helping resources such as question marks or help icons to easily identify elements, making it difficult for new users to learn the platform without some form of training. The configuration and policy setups also require multiple steps, which complicates the process, and it would be easier if some steps could be skipped. Better analytics and reporting capabilities should provide improved trackability for API performance and consumer behavior. Documentation for advanced use cases would help reduce the learning curve. However, when trying to integrate with third parties, it can be quite difficult and requires a lot of authentication and authorization, which is better for security but poses challenges for new users trying to connect with a third party to transfer data between platforms. Additionally, the customization options for the dashboard are very limited, which restricts my ability to customize the entire dashboard meaningfully.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable feature is monetization."
"I'm confident in the stability of the solution, as it is very reliable and has good performance."
"If you have numerous applications and high traffic, Apigee is a strong choice for its excellent features and outstanding performance."
"We can customize the dashboard."
"If customers are trying to do long-term planning, and want to apply monetization on their APIs, then Apigee will be the best in this situation."
"Apigee brings a lot of projects, including development projects; for example, when an oil company is swiping a card in the palm station for payment of oil, as it swipes, it hits the database, and Apigee manages the entire process with the help of dedicated proxies, and managing those proxies is very easy, and Apigee makes proxy management very simple."
"Items around the mobilization of the API interface and the ability to automate validations for our APIs are the most valuable aspects."
"It has actually helped us to be able to integrate our internal applications with external vendors, acting as a single point of entry into the enterprise and making management as well as security simpler."
"The most valuable feature of the solution is security."
"This platform can be highly scalable."
"I don't believe the Salesforce has been fully utilized yet. It gives us quick engagement."
"Its flexibility allows us to adapt to different scenarios."
"The UI and UX are quite good and easy to understand."
"This product is a ten when it comes to API management."
"This product is reliable and stable."
"It provides very strong security functionality to protect information in an easier way."

Cons

"I would say that it currently takes too long to set up and deploy and that it is not as short a time to complete the process as it should be."
"Apigee's user interface could be more straightforward and have more options. Also, it would be nice if it were ready to work out of the box without so much configuration."
"Pricing is an area that can be improved, as it is a little on the higher side."
"An area for improvement would be to provide more information while troubleshooting."
"The company needs to better support webhooks. It used to support webhooks and their policies and they have since stopped. They had some issues in the product and they abandoned the support for them. It's not come back since."
"Apigee on premise is quite complex and it is always moving faster."
"I would like to see the support improved. I think the time frame should be shorter for responses when it comes to technical support. This is not the ideal situation you want to be in when you need support."
"Apigee's API gateway could be improved. There are some limitations for high throughputs, which we can address."
"A significant area of improvement for Axway AMPLIFY API Management is the Amplify Central portal, which should help expose APIs on a webpage for potential customers."
"The areas for enhancement should be improving certain filters within the solution. Although they are generally functional, there are occasional problems that could be more precisely adjusted. Additionally, the solution performs well within its workload limitations, but it may not be suitable for scaling up or managing a larger volume of transactions through the gateway. To address this, it may be necessary to adopt a unique architecture rather than relying on traditional pre-packaged options."
"It would be great if they have an asset report. It's hard to get support for that."
"Not a ten because of the pricing and technical support."
"I have experienced issues with Axway AMPLIFY API Management's stability at times, particularly when there are a large number of API calls."
"The installation process is a bit complex and it could be a lot simpler."
"In terms of customer service, the company needs to be easier to contact, and the support team needs to understand the situation and the product itself better."
"Ultimately, from a very high-level overview, cloud platforms or Kong could have a slight advantage when compared to Axway AMPLIFY API Management."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It is an expensive solution."
"It is not suited for small companies. It's expensive."
"We have a contract for three years. I don't know the cost."
"In Latin America, Apigee is expensive. It's not for small businesses; it's more for big businesses."
"Pricing options need to be chosen on a case-by-case basis."
"The cost increases as the usage increases."
"The iicense is subscription-based."
"Since it was acquired by Google, we can get a license based on our requirements and the cost level will depend on cloud access and support."
"The solution is expensive. When you acquire a license you have full access to the solution, unlike other competitors such as Apigee X, where there are fragmented licenses. Some licenses only allow access to certain features while others allow access to more features. Upon procuring this solution's license, you will have full access to the solution, allowing you to experiment with all of its features."
