Provides high visibility and control with good traffic monitoring
Analytics is one of the areas needing enhancement, specifically more visibility and control over traffic to improve capacity management and high availability. The replication process between Master and Slave for disaster recovery takes too long. Dependencies on analytics impact the performance of the user interface, which should be separate. The complex setup process on-premises, especially with multi-node installations, could also be improved. Additional control in product declarations, based on operations like POST and GET, is needed.

Easy to deploy APIs and easy to manage CORS configuration
I have used WSO2 Store and WSO2 API Manager at the architecture level. I worked on two versions, namely WSO2 API Manager 2.6.0 and 5.7.0. I have also worked with WSO2 Identity Server versions 5.7 and 5.11. There are certain things that Apigee handles better than WSO2 API Manager. The user interface of WSO2 API Manager is much easier than that of Apigee. The scope of flexibility was much greater in Apigee. In WSO2 API Manager, we had little flexibility and were restricted to a specific software or tool. On the other hand, we had the scope of customization in Apigee.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Its customer service is good."
"We use it to build API proxies for securing targeted back-ends with an emphasis on Continuous Integration/Continuous Development (CI/CD)."
"The most valuable feature is monetization."
"The most important feature is the security capabilities and the way it integrates very quickly with other security providers. We have integrated it with Azure and it integrates quite seamlessly."
"The most valuable feature of the current version of Apigee, such as Apigee Edge, is that the maintenance and scalability of the service are not our responsibility. As a SaaS platform, Google takes care of it, ensuring the system is stable. Another valuable feature is the ability to customize the platform extensively. We can add JavaScript functionality to cater to any use case that is not available out of the box."
"The stability of the solution is good. There aren't issues surrounding bugs or glitches. We don't find that it crashes or freezes. It's pretty reliable."
"I like implementing different policies, for example, rate-limiting policy."
"A very functional solution."
"This solution is a little bit faster, easier to use, and has better integration than the other solutions I have experienced."
"Functionality-wise, I like WSO2 API Manager - Publisher API and WSO2 Enterprise Service Bus."
"One of the great things about WSO2 API Manager is that it is so easy to adopt. And because it's an open source solution, we're able to extend the implementation any time to suit our company needs better."
"The flexibility is definitely a highlight. We have flexible mapping capabilities, allowing us to provide common mappings or create custom ones as needed."
"The documentation is good."
"There are a lot of tools to help the manager. WSO2 is very easy to install. It has all the principal functionalities that you think about when you want to put up the management solution. It's a very friendly tool."
"WSO2 API Manager is open-source, which offers a range of features not found in other open-source API tools."
"The main feature — the publication of the API, the management section — is great in general."

Cons

"I would like to see SOAP services and socket-based connectivity developed."
"What my clients don't like is that the on-premises solution is not being treated and maintained as well as the cloud solution."
"I would like them to add features, such as caching and mediation policies."
"There should be an integrated continuous integration and continuous deployment approach with Apigee. Currently, for development at a more integrated level, you have set it up yourself."
"There is room for improvement in v-logging for each transaction."
"Analytics is one of the areas needing enhancement, specifically more visibility and control over traffic to improve capacity management and high availability."
"The Apigee cloud admin UI could be more user-friendly by adding a few more features."
"Drag and drop of features would be more beneficial, rather than manually working on the configuration and updates."
"I would like it to be a more convenient development platform with the ability to write orchestrations and so on. Our problem with this product is that in my country, we are the only enterprise that has been using this product. We're missing a lot of knowledge from colleagues to consult with, and we also aren't able to recruit people with relevant skills. It is a big problem. The small team that is maintaining this product is the only team that can actually relate to any technical issue. The support that we're getting from the company is not great. There is also a cultural gap there because they're from Sri Lanka, and it is not easy. They're putting in a lot of effort, but they are not meeting our expectations."
"I can say that user management is not really flexible. So, if I want to create 1,000 store users, I can't do it as a publisher. You have to register as a store user using the store URL."
"The technical support must be improved."
"The product hasn’t been updated for some time."
"WSO2 API Manager could increase their security compliance."
"Dashboards for application monitoring of the APIs would be beneficial, allowing us to check for faulty APIs."
"The user interface could be a bit better."
"The initial setup can be difficult."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The product's pricing is fair. You need to pay additional costs for the support."
"If the budget is not a concern then I will choose to go with Apigee over WSA-2, but if it is then I would prefer the latter solution."
"The solution’s pricing could be more competitive."
"The cost increases as the usage increases."
"We have a contract for three years. I don't know the cost."
"The current version of Apigee is not too expensive, but we are currently in talks with Google to understand their roadmap for Apigee X. However, we anticipate that with the introduction of Apigee X, the pricing will likely increase."
"It was fairly expensive. I don't know what the standard pricing is. I want to say that it's something like $80,000 for 800 million requests (approximately) a year."
"Apigee has several different licenses you can obtain depending on your needs."
"WSO2 API Manager is quite an expensive tool. I rate the product's pricing a nine on a scale of one to ten, where one is low and ten is high."
"The solution costs less than 20,000 euros a year. I'm not sure of the exact number."
"We have not opted for the paid version of WSO2 but we have implemented the free and open source WSO2 software to a great extent and it is working as per our expectation."
"WSO2 API Manager is an open-source solution."
"I think the other competitors that are providing the same solution are quite expensive. WSO2 API Manager is quite cheap."
"We use the open-source version of WSO2 API Manager, there is no cost."
"As far as I'm aware, the costs are not minimal but satisfactory."
"There is a subscription-based pricing structure and also the open-sourced version available."
