The fast learning function is impressive, user-friendly, and saves us time
While I understand that ABBYY eventually addressed the communication issue and apologized for it, the initial lack of response was frustrating. A simple explanation at the beginning could have prevented the whole problem. In my opinion, clear communication is the most important aspect of any service. Even if a company has a less-than-perfect product, I, as a customer, have chosen them for a reason. That's why I believe the best thing a supplier can do is prioritize communication, even if it's just automated responses acknowledging receipt of a message and providing an estimated response time. This is where ABBYY initially fell short, but things improved significantly once a director got involved. The lack of patch update notifications creates a blind spot. Without them, we're unaware of new patches and can't proactively check if our code is compatible, potentially leading to issues down the line.

High-accuracy document processing with easy integration and good image enhancement
The OCR extractions are very good, almost 100% accurate now. The integration with other tools is very easy, with inbuilt actions to configure and directly export to multiple depositories. It is also good at image enhancement, including the removal of lines, which is helpful in processing and automation and ensures very little user intervention, thus saving time.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable feature is the ability to capture data from documents with different formats."
"We recommend it over any other OCR solution on the market."
"The initial setup is not difficult. The vendor provides technical documents to assist with deployment."
"Its OCR Engine is very successful, and it is the leading OCR Engine. It also has NLP support."
"It saves us a lot of manual work."
"Competitively, I think ABBYY is better than other OCR tools."
"The most valuable feature is the ability to capture data from documents with different formats."
"The most valuable feature of this solution is its ability to extract content from documents. It is able to identify specific fields and special characters."
"Our clients have significantly improved efficiencies when opening accounts for end users."
"An example: In the state of Connecticut, we implemented a solution which was forms based, but inspired by IBM technology, and we were able to eliminate a process which normally took 60 days and cut it down to six hours."
"Both Datacap Studio and Datacap Navigator are great features."
"The OCR extractions are very good, almost 100% accurate now."
"At the forefront of my thoughts, the standout feature of this intelligent product is its remarkable capability. This project we're currently engaged in revolves around streamlining workflows within both our company and the customer's company. It entails handling information from various documents with diverse formats and types, even when they contain the same data. The ability to connect this information with the appropriate database and recognize it irrespective of the format or source is an extremely valuable feature. Moreover, leveraging machine learning is crucial since our customer deals with an extensive archive of over five million documents. Machine learning can significantly alleviate the backlog by becoming well-versed in various scenarios they might encounter during their work once we've completed our application."
"Datacap is good at processing unstructured data. You can build up some nice data flows, and it is simple to configure. The tool adopts a low-code approach, but you can do a lot of coding if you want to customize and automate your flows. Datacap also has the flexibility to integrate."
"It is a very extensible solution because it is based on configurable rule sets, and we were able to amend and adjust the solution and very easily add custom code and custom components."
"The solution offers many features that are beneficial for customers."

Cons

"There is always room for improvement in any product. Some of the configurations for the machine learning models for invoice reading are fairly complicated. There is so much customization that is possible with that sort of thing, so it makes sense that there are a lot of options, but some of the more important ones can be a little better streamlined or more upfront. Currently, machine learning models are a little bit difficult to configure satisfactorily."
"They say that they have invoice training or document training where if you put in a certain number of documents of the same type and you fix it once, twice, or a few times, it'll automatically be able to read the same document perfectly without you having to create a layout for it to follow. That has never worked properly for any project, so I just stopped recommending it completely."
"There are sometimes issues with calculations or integrations with the server when running multiple products with different languages, which causes data to not display properly in data fields."
"Its licensing price is high, and there are no training materials that you can use easily."
"The price for trainings or certifications are on the very, very high side."
"The integration with UiPath is not good. I would like to see more documentation and guides to help gain more in-depth knowledge of how to use ABBYY FlexiCapture."
"The main thing they need to work on is simplification of the solution, particularly use of the search tool."
"ABBYY Vantage needs to incorporate interfaces similar to cloud and OpenAI chat to streamline workflows."
"In one case, our client needed to scan 5,000 pages in five minutes, or less, Datacap was not able to accommodate this task."
"What could be improved in IBM Datacap from a technical perspective is having everything together all in one place, rather than having several different interfaces. The addition of cloud-based OCR technology would also make this solution better. There's also room for improvement for their technical support."
"What could be improved in IBM Datacap from a technical perspective is having all configuration interfaces together in one place, rather than having several different configuration interfaces."
"The user interfaces for exception processing can be tweaked. I commonly find that we try to tweak and customize some of those components to more of what the industry standard is. The product is still trying to play catch-up a little bit in those areas."
"The Arabic OCR in IBM DataCap is not accurate forcing us to use other solutions that have better Arabic OCR which is an additional cost."
"Third-party integration could be improved; it's very slow."
"Its weaknesses are primarily tied to the lack of available resources and expertise in the market to effectively support and provide solutions and services to each customer for seamless implementation. Expertise in this specific product is rare throughout the market. One key reason is the product's limited downloads. Additionally, archiving solutions are often perceived as complex and challenging, dissuading many companies from venturing into this domain. Consequently, partners who specialize in archiving solutions are always seeking straightforward, uncomplicated options that are easy to manage and meet customer expectations."
"We have page requirements where some values must be copied on each page. For example, say I need to scan a bunch of documents, and the name will be a field on every page. We don't have a default functionality in Datacap to copy the field value on the first page to all the pages. That feature would make the documents easy to prepare."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I give the price a six out of ten."
"The price per page is high."
"The licenses for this solution are payable on a yearly basis, and are transferable from one year to the next, if they go unused. The license payment also includes a number of support hours from the vendor."
"Its price is a little bit high and can be lower. Its licensing is very expensive. I don't remember exactly, but for each page, it is about four or seven cents, which is too expensive."
"It is expensive as compared to UiPath. We pay for the licensing and the page count."
"The price of this ABBYY FlexiCapture is a bit expensive and the price is based on how many documents have been captured. For example, one or two million captures."
"We did not go with the licensed version of this solution."
"ABBYY Vantage is a bit of an expensive tool."
"This solution offers seamless integration with other enterprise products, which is my area of responsibility, focusing on government sector projects. Larger enterprise projects don't pose problems. It might be suitable for small businesses as well."
"If you want IBM Datacap on cloud, which is a service run by IBM, the price can be quite expensive, but if you want to just purchase the licenses and own those yourself, then the price is very competitive."
"It is an expensive solution."
"This solution offers seamless integration with other enterprise products, which is my area of responsibility, focusing on government sector projects. Larger enterprise projects don't pose problems. It might be suitable for small businesses as well."
"Pricing depends on how much we use it. We pay per bulk quantity. We pay as you go. Therefore, it sort of depends on our usage of it."
"You save a lot of time and money, but the benefit is you have people who are able to run the systems, check to see if there are any errors at all, and there are a lot less errors than a human system."
"This solution is the most expensive in the market."
"In Egypt, we have exchange rates that change year to year, and currently, we're facing an increase in the exchange rate between our Egyptian pound and the dollar. Since we have been using IBM DataCap two years ago we had a good price, it was not expensive. However, I cannot say now if it is expensive or not because of the exchange rate. Additionally, I don't have the data of other competitors and I don't know the prices."
