Reliable image backups have protected our HMIs and simplified on‑premises recovery
We have not tried the vulnerability assessment feature yet because we have a different set of protocols for our cybersecurity. We conduct audits and plug the gaps as part of our security approach. We are not using AI with the anti-malware from Acronis; we are using it only for backup and recovery. On the backup and restoration side with Acronis Backup, some on-premises AI features which can detect anomalies may be something which would improve the product significantly. Otherwise, we are not very comfortable with cloud-based solutions at this time. We are looking for products which are entirely on-premises, so they remain within our control.

Can be used to back up servers and desktops, but needs to have an Oracle agent for its on-premises model
Retrospect Backup has a single console that can be used to manage and backup servers and desktops. The solution supports tape and cloud since certain customers are still on tape. The solution provides a dissimilar hardware restore feature. If you have a complete machine burnout, you can restore it on new dissimilar hardware. Retrospect Backup is used to protect file data and SQL databases. Streamlining data backup processes with Retrospect Backup is automated and does not need any human intervention. The solution doesn't take up much time and does the backups automatically. Policy creation is very easy with Retrospect Backup. Once it's done, you don't have to bother about it because it keeps working on its own. A disaster recovery (DR) solution has been built into Retrospect Backup. You can restore the whole machine on a fresh setup with ISO images. Retrospect Backup is very easy to use and not very complicated. Creating policies and adding clients is very easy in the solution. The solution doesn't take up much LAN bandwidth except for the first full backup. The solution is efficient and does the backups really fast. It takes backups in batches of 14 machines at a time.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"We have saved massive drive space and shortened data transfer time to offsite due to the 8:1 ratio of the de-duplication and changed block tracking."
"I would definitely say the backup and recovery. It used to be a separate module. It was a recovery part and it would literally duplicate the machine to bare bones."
"The solution has helped us because it supports a lot of platforms and we don't have to install anything at our end in terms of a server and the like; everything is on the cloud and that's a good start for us."
"All the necessary features required to set up a proper backup are already present in Acronis Backup."
"Acronis Backup is valuable if your data is affected by ransomware, you are able to get it back."
"End user can manage backup and recovery on its own efficiently once a product PC has failed during production."
"It makes a full image of the hard drive. If a hard drive fails, all we do is recover to another hard drive."
"The most valuable feature of Acronis Backup is the data recovery and restoration details."
"Retrospect Backup has a single console that can be used to manage and backup servers and desktops."

Cons

"There can be inconsistencies between builds in terms of the product working with one NIC or another, especially on newer generation servers."
"It could have a better ability to manage backups over a longer period."
"GUI for management of backups. Using 11.5 more difficult with keeping on tabs with all backup schedules and status of backups, even when using the management console feature of the software."
"It would be better if they made it easier to obtain images for laptops and desktops. It isn't easy right now to have many different types of desktop computers. This is because Microsoft is changing a lot of things in Windows 10."
"The initial installation of the product was difficult."
"Acronis support is pathetic. It takes five days to open the case."
"I would like to have more cybersecurity integration to properly round up the product and its offering. In terms of cybersecurity, if the offerings can be more versatile so that it is not just a backup solution, it would be great. Some addition to cybersecurity would really be helpful so that it becomes a kind of a suite of products. Backup and recovery form a part of the broader security strategy. Its integration with other cybersecurity solutions would provide proper visibility to not just your cybersecurity dashboard but also to all of your backups. You would have a pretty good view of the entire security landscape that you are managing."
"It would be nice if it could support more types of storage: EMC, HPE, Veeam, etc."
"Retrospect Backup needs to have an Oracle agent for its on-premises model."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"When it comes to elements like cost, I think it is the only backup solution which has perpetual licenses, whereby you buy the license once and for all."
"The tool's subscription costs are monthly. The product's pricing is fair."
"The price of the solution is reasonable."
"The price of Acronis Backup could be reduced, it is expensive."
"We use the free version that provides very basic functionalities."
"The license is a perpetual license. The cost is an area for improvement."
"The pricing model is a little complex to find the right size for what you need. It takes a lot of hours to figure it out."
"There is a license required for this solution and it can be on a monthly basis."
"Retrospect Backup is more cost-effective compared to other products."
