I like the capabilities for scanning the spectrums in portions instead of filling the whole screen
Wireless scanning, mapping, and troubleshooting. Spectrum XT continues to help with interference issues in the factory environment. Having multiple systems factory/IR/RF/Microwave and LMR is challenging to keep everything working together I've been able to diagnose trouble areas in the factory…

Provides detailed traffic analysis and helps troubleshoot issues
There is a disadvantage when it comes to sampling intervals. While the solution supports sampling as fine as one millisecond, it requires a copy at that interval. My Python script allows me to achieve a granularity of up to ten microseconds, but I can't go beyond that. When dealing with provisioning on both issues, it would be beneficial if I could go down to the microsecond level, if not the nanosecond. Additionally, I've heard from a colleague that Wireshark might be less effective in the voice domain.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"If you're having multiple issues, I'd recommend this to people, and in the long run, it's worth the cost not having to wait for a vendor to make it out during an outage or intermittent time of issues."
"I think two of the products that we use in the suite are really, really, really solid."
"I can determine precise placement of APs to satisfy customers’ needs for data, voice, or location."
"Wireshark is very user-friendly; even someone with basic IT knowledge can use it."
"The solution is easy to install and use."
"You can use Wireshark to see the traffic packet format, the IP layers, the fields, and the enabled flags."
"It is free, easy to use, getting better with every release."
"The options that are required to get the details for the packet drops are good."
"Wireshark is a network analytic tool which provides such intelligent information in a network."
"Wireshark analyzes networks, captures traffic and decrypts information passed through the communication channels into a form that is readable and can thus be used to learn how network protocols work."
"Wireshark saves a lot of time, especially with network troubleshooting."

Cons

"Not being able to accurately predict interference and then engineer or react accordingly does cost us money."
"On the version I use, there are some bugs that are probably resolved in the latest version."
"Connections from the antenna to the main unit are not efficient to connect and disconnect. Also, not thought out for placement of the cable between the unit and antenna to not catch the things disconnecting it during use."
"In the future, it would be nice to see color coding. It is just black and white."
"It is not an easy program. You will need to study to use it to its full capabilities (follow a course)."
"Maximum buffer size of captured data should be unlimited and should allow ability to archive all old captures (not save option) in real time, it should support a destination location where old captures can be directed for long term storage."
"Wireshark does not allow you to make any changes relevant to the network; in other words, you can only observe the network."
"There is a disadvantage when it comes to sampling intervals. Additionally, I've heard from a colleague that Wireshark might be less effective in the voice domain."
"The volume of data on a typical TCP segment is so large that it can be challenging to capture and find the right data."
"We would like the product to be developed so that it doesn't rely on internet access for installation. We would like to see all of the components required to be integrated into the installer."
"It needs the ability to follow multiple interfaces for specific traffic from different network zones/virtual networks. It would help to understand how any packet is going through the network."
