Enables cost-effective security management for small businesses
Scaling for USM is always challenging for any product unless it is purpose-built or overbuilt at the front end. They will use Palo Alto and its competitors, and LevelBlue will manage that implementation. The main area where the AlienVault product was lacking around the 2018 timeframe was in its ability to scale. By pushing it to a cloud-based system, they've largely alleviated scale issues. It's native in Amazon but will also run in Azure. They have worked with cloud service providers to offer enough throughput at a cost reasonable for a corporation. Scaling was their biggest problem, and they've largely conquered those issues.

Centralized monitoring has improved threat detection speed and simplified alert investigations
It would be helpful if some alerts had cleaner, clearer explanations right away, such as suggesting next steps inside the alert, and fewer clicks to get from alert to raw event details would make the triage even faster. Integration could be more plug-and-play, and improving built-in guidance for new analysts would help cut the learning curve. Performance-wise, it is adequate for us, but easier bulk searches would make investigations smoother. It would be helpful for each alert to come with clear suggested next steps right inside the alert, so analysts do not have to guess or click around too much. Making integration more plug-and-play would smooth out setup for new data sources.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The solution is very stable, and compared to QRadar and Splunk, it's very stable."
"The solution has a very good open source community, and whenever we have problems, we are always able to resolve it online."
"Technical support is excellent; they are very helpful and responsive."
"The open vault component and the checking of vulnerabilities are the most valuable features, and the page management helps with this, because if you know how your device is vulnerable at least you can do something about it."
"The initial setup was straightforward. I didn't have any problems."
"Network traffic analysis is highly efficient."
"The solution is free to use."
"The product is easy to use."
"Overall, this affects my security posture positively because it improves it since it helps us in real-time monitoring, and it gives us automated investigation and also the auto-investigate tab, so it is pretty good."
"Overall, I would assess the overall security posture after implementing SentinelOne Singularity AI SIEM as significantly better."
"SentinelOne Singularity AI SIEM has positively impacted my organization by improving visibility, reducing investigation time, and helping the security team respond to incidents faster."
"I have experienced no issues with SentinelOne Singularity AI SIEM; it is the best product I have ever used, very stable, handy, easy to manage, and excellent with its AI-driven capabilities."
"AI-powered threat hunting using natural language stands out the most to me because it allows me to investigate security data using plain language questions instead of manually writing complex queries, which reduces the time required for threat hunting and makes investigations more accessible for analysts who are less familiar with query languages."
"SentinelOne Singularity AI SIEM has improved our overall security posture and is reducing the workload on the SOC team."
"With the help of this tool, the response time to sophisticated threats has improved significantly, and it recently cuts the MTTR time using Purple AI by 40%."
"The AI features of SentinelOne Singularity AI SIEM are absolutely perfect."

Cons

"The documentation could be improved."
"They can add more compliance templates."
"The main area where the AlienVault product was lacking around the 2018 timeframe was in its ability to scale."
"AlienVault OSSIM should improve the deployment and make it unified like the USM."
"The price of this solution is very high and it could be cheaper."
"ArcSight works better than AlienVault right now."
"I would like the solution to be able to integrate with my firewall, my IDS and my Honeypot solutions so that it can provide real-time reporting as things occur and then have alert sent to me on my phone when suspicious activity is happening."
"There needs to be more focus on the NOC and IIS in terms of developing applications for behavior detection."
"SentinelOne Singularity AI SIEM can catch SentinelAgent.exe as a potential threat, but it should not because it is the agent of SentinelOne itself."
"What I dislike is that the dashboard is very old, so they do not have much capability to be honest."
"There is room for improvement when it comes to the technical support quality and expertise of SentinelOne. Sometimes, the technical support team does not know how to resolve certain issues and takes time to respond, often requiring follow-up interactions within 24 hours."
"It would be helpful if some alerts had cleaner, clearer explanations right away, such as suggesting next steps inside the alert, and fewer clicks to get from alert to raw event details would make the triage even faster."
"SentinelOne Singularity AI SIEM is a strong platform, but there are a few areas where it could be improved."
"It is quite good, but the only downside is that it is costly."
"SentinelOne Singularity AI SIEM has some performance and reliability issues that need improvement."
"Customer support could be better because it is frequently transferred to various agents."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I used the paid version of the tool and found it to be expensive. It has been a while since I changed to Securonix. I will have to check whether AlienVault charges per device, user, or log."
"The licensing fees for the non-community edition are paid on an annual basis, and there are no costs in addition to this."
"The tool's licensing costs are yearly."
"When comparing AlienVault OSSIM to Microsoft Sentinel, AlienVault OSSIM incurs additional costs due to its licensing price structure. If you are using AlienVault for security purposes at a certain level it can have a higher price point than the current pricing of Microsoft Sentinel."
"OSSIM is open source, and USM is the paid license. So, if you want, you can switch to USM. There you will have to buy a license, and they have a support team that helps you out on issues you face."
"AlienVault OSSIM is an open-source solution."
"The price of AlienVault OSSIM is too high sometimes for us to present to our customers. The price should be lower. We are on a three-year license to use the solution. We had to pay extra for the support."
"The solution is open source, so it's free to use."
