Identifies and analyzes performance issues quickly using in-built AI and ML
With Alluvio AppResponse, there is an in-built analytical analysis with AI and ML, which identifies and provides data such as the number of TCP retransmits, web access time, total connection time out, total connections established, and server-side errors. The RTCC response time composition chart is crucial because it helps pinpoint the issue's origin, whether from the server, network, or application side. It's a superb product when compared to SolarWinds SAM, which is agent-based, while Alluvio AppResponse captures all traffic from the core switch.

Telemetry insights have improved how I track user behavior and application performance daily
I feel Azure Monitor does a fair job. I do feel it is not a streaming service in my opinion. There are advantages to having stream messaging and logging on that level. But for what it is, I feel it does well. My perspective is more based on an Application Insights agent running on a service or an app service and sending the telemetry via the agent, and also doing the filtering of telemetry at the agent level so you are not having a ton of telemetry. I believe Azure Monitor does pretty much the same thing. I have also used tools such as New Relic, and New Relic is a much more robust tool, but that is a different product and you are going to pay for that. It is a different offering altogether. The subscription that we had at the time allowed for a couple gigabytes of telemetry during the month, and I believe that telemetry only lives for about two months. You have to experiment with it to see how much you want to pay. I was not really involved in the pricing. It was more along the lines of we were running up against our limits in terms of the amount of free telemetry or telemetry that we get with our subscription, and so we either needed to scale back or turn specific telemetry types off or do some more sampling. It is nice that those capabilities are there so that you can reduce the amount of telemetry. I cannot really speak to pricing but I do believe that it is somewhat reasonable for Azure Monitor. New Relic is pretty expensive, I believe.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"We require a staff of a small team to maintain the solution, and they can quickly find and troubleshoot problems in the database, transactions, unified communication, etc., because it is a very good tool that is very fast and very informative and gives you an overview where the problem is on the backend server or on the network side so you can then focus more deeply on that."
"Simply moving the focus from the IT infrastructure components to the end user with the result that it drastically reduces the time spent on troubleshooting performance issue."
"When it comes to the ability to scale up the product, this is suitable for small medium and large environments, PPG and Volkswagon being examples."
"It's a stable product. Riverbed has invested a significant amount of research and development into it, so it's a solid tool overall."
"It provides us with complete visibility of every packet."
"Opnet probes (AppResponse Xpert), now part of Riverbed, capture network traffic and calculate automatically many applicative and network KPI."
"The full visibility that you get from the backend is excellent."
"The most valuable feature is performance monitoring."
"The ease of access in Azure is significant since it's native to the platform and easy to integrate."
"I am monitoring all of my Azure Monitor and getting good reports. I can customize the reports to get the information I need. I am also getting emails about which AAS instances are down and everything in the system related to my services. It is easy to use, scalable, and user-friendly. Microsoft has Many guides and videos to help you understand how to create and use Azure Monitor."
"The solution's most valuable features are its ease of use and support for multiple environments"
"From a business standpoint, I think the ability to see where your users are is valuable."
"We like the monitoring, we can look for the downtimes and look at the log to see whenever there is a crash and all the information around it."
"Azure Monitor is useful because of the useful application insights and telemetry, such as metrics and logs."
"Azure Monitor's best features are its graphs and charts, the different visibility options, and reporting."
"We are an operation center so we use this solution mainly to monitor all of our clients' environments and to help them with technical issues."

Cons

"It's not able to monitor SAP transactions."
"Technical support has been a problem for us. We had trouble with incompatibility during the implementation phase and they were a little bit late when it came to answering us."
"The recent changes in corporate structure may have caused some decrease in support quality."
"The pricing is on the higher side of things. If they could lower it, that would be ideal."
"The licenses are costly and are done per module."
"If Alluvio AppResponse reduces its cost, it will be more beneficial for customers to monitor their application and network performance."
"Need to bring back the NetFlow module for AppResponse."
"Alluvio AppResponse should improve its ability to expand across multiple operating systems."
"The pricing model could be more flexible."
"I believe Azure Monitor is already a top-notch solution with excellent functionality and there is not much I would suggest for improvement. However, there is one limitation that certain features require payment, even for testing purposes, which can be a challenge."
"If it is configured incorrectly, you can end up with a huge bill."
"Using Azure Monitor and Azure Arc separately to monitor different environments can be complicated."
"Azure Monitor can improve by adding some kind of storage for logs."
"I'd like the solution to do more around vulnerability assessment. It's lacking in the product right now."
"The onboarding process of certain assets and the overall UI can be improved in Azure Monitor"
"Integration with third-party tools from other vendors than Azure is more time-consuming"

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The solution is no more expensive than other products."
"The licensing model is expensive compared to its competitors, but the service it gives to your business, and the data quality, means that it's worth it."
"It is costly for small and medium businesses."
"The price is a little bit high, especially because we have to pay an import tax."
"The solution is expensive, but it is worth the price."
"Customers of Azure Monitor must pay an amount that depends largely on how many services they need to integrate and the storage space required in terms of logs, etc. If they only have a few small services to monitor, the price won't be too high, but on the opposite side of the spectrum, it can certainly get pricey."
"The tool is expensive."
"Azure Monitor is a low-priced solution, which is why it would work best on small-scale projects."
"Its cost depends on the ingestion of the logs. It could go anywhere. For an out-of-the-box platform such as FrameFlow, you pay pretty much a fixed price and you get what you get, whereas, with something like Azure Monitor, you pay by the ingestion charge, so you can have one client who pays hardly anything for the same alerts, and another client pays loads and loads."
"The Azure Insight is a little bit expensive."
"The solution is a pay-as-you-go consumption service and is the least expensive in the market."
"I would rate Azure Monitor a two out of five for affordability."
