Cloud training has boosted my data analytics skills and simplifies building small projects
One area that could be improved in Amazon AWS is its learning curve. The large number of services and configuration options can be overwhelming, especially for new users. Understanding its pricing can also be challenging, as costs can add up unexpectedly if resources are not monitored carefully. For data analytics, setting up and integrating services such as S3, Glue, and Athena sometimes requires a good understanding of permissions, data formats, and service configurations. More guided, simplified onboarding for analytics use cases would make the platform more accessible. One additional area for improvement is documentation and service selection. Amazon AWS offers many services with overlapping capabilities, and it can sometimes be difficult for users to determine which service is the best fit for a particular use case. More decision support tools and guided recommendations would help reduce this complexity. From a data analytics perspective, cost visibility could also be improved since analytics workloads can scale quickly. Having more proactive cost forecasting and optimization recommendations would help teams manage budgets more effectively. Another challenging area is IAM and permission management. While Amazon AWS provides strong security controls, configuring permissions correctly can be complex, especially when multiple analytics services need to interact with one another. Simplifying permissions while maintaining security would enhance the overall user experience. The other area I would mention for improvement is the overall user experience. Given the huge number of services, which are truly excellent, it can sometimes feel overwhelming to navigate, especially for a new user that requires much training. A more streamlined interface and clearer recommendations between similar services would make it easier to get started. I would also like to see more built-in cost optimization guidance and cost management tools. Other than that, Amazon AWS is a very good and mature platform. Most of my feedback is about making it easier to learn, manage, and optimize rather than adding new capabilities.

The security part of the tool is not so strong, making it an area I would like to see improved in the solution. When working with a cloud tool, it's never 100 percent secure and it is always something to take into account. I would like to be more comfortable working with it and feeling safer. In the future, the tool can be made faster. In the future, I would like to see maybe some AI features in the tool to help automate stuff. You need to be able to create your own models to help create some automated actions.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The main reason why we use EC2 is because we are not dependent on maintaining the hardware inside our premises. Also, we have full control over the infrastructure, and we can modify it as per our own requirements."
"The installation process is very simple."
"The solution is really reliable even when we were using it as a demo to showcase to clients."
"I like that all of the features are complimentary."
"We have been able to leverage the agility of AWS to work faster and, in some cases, fail fast so we can get on to the next thing, which works."
"It scales extremely well."
"It is easy to use."
"When it comes to cloud management, I have no complaints at present."
"Moving to Oracle Cloud has addressed some of our major concerns with having to manage the infrastructure, which needs better scalability, integrated security, and better database access."
"The ability to manage security and access the server from any location with complete security using SSH is perfect for performing crucial tasks, even while travelling."
"Developers deploy their builds and if we need to scale the environment we can do it quickly."
"Cloud has provided less maintenance."
"It's a very low-cost option for a business to start with."
"The solution's technical support is good."
"The auto-backup, incremental backup and restoration features can be invaluable for management."
"The automated features of auto-purging in 12c helps clear disk space on a routine basis."

Cons

"This solution could be improved by a better licensing model, especially for third-party software. Amazon AWS could also potentially be improved by more free storage, but I think that it's okay when compared to competitors' products."
"They need to improve the engines' availability of services since they have been reducing that availability."
"While AWS often is at the top of my list to recommend to people, I always have to tell them, "Hey, you got to be careful because if they don't like you, they can shut you down in a heartbeat. And they can kill an entire company by doing that.""
"The solution could improve by being more secure."
"The AWS documentation is written in a way that is not very intuitive. That's an area they can improve."
"The user interface (UI) needs improvement. Right now, it's not the best."
"Identity and access management on AWS could be made to be much more straightforward."
"They can launch the Oracle service in Azure, and we expect that this should be possible in Amazon AWS as well."
"Integration with Oracle products is well-supported. The same should be provided for other products that are used in most organizations, like PeopleSoft, CA, etc."
"I think there should be improvement with the speed and it should offer a more diverse selection of the suites that I can use."
"It has been built on Java technology but requires more integration with other APIs and CI tools."
"Needs better integration with other Oracle/non-Oracle products."
"The security part of the tool is not so strong, making it an area I would like to see improved in the solution."
"It needs to have the ability to create a service with the same name as another one when the initial creation failed as sometimes it's necessary to have a service with exact name."
"There are issues with the application's development, including small glitches and errors."
"The product's high price is an area of concern where improvements are required."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The solution is on a subscription-based model, and it is pay-as-you-go. The price could be cheaper."
"Looking at the primary market for AWS, I see that there's a lot of customers who have only mid-level performance requirements, because you will have all these normal applications such as online auction websites, gaming applications, voice applications, and so on. These are not, for example, large monitoring applications, financial independents, or brick and mortar companies. So AWS caters to about 40% of the market when it comes to general applications. As it happens, in many cases, you simply don't need the high-performance offerings from AWS, nor the innovative products from Google Cloud Platform, which can come with large price tags."
"I think they've done a pretty good job with their pricing."
"The price tends to be higher, but that is a usual case when prioritizing reliable backup solutions for servers and other infrastructure."
"Its pricing model is too complex."
"The pricing of Amazon AWS is high compared to any other cloud provider."
"A few of our customers pay for it yearly and monthly. Sometimes, when it's related to the data, the pricing seems to be high. It could be cheaper on a transactional basis."
"The price of the solution is reasonable."
"Oracle is a little more expensive right now, but not much compared to SAP. Oracle's prices are very much dependent on the scale of the project and how many users are there."
"Oracle Java Cloud Service is an expensive product."
"It is somewhat expensive."
