Has improved performance for mission-critical workloads and enabled seamless non-disruptive upgrades
The availability is 99.99%, which is the main factor any customer would need because their data should be available whenever they want to access it. This is one main critical thing. It is very easy to upgrade since Pure Storage FlashArray handles it well. Everything is non-disruptive now; previously, there were forklift shifts, but now that is not the case. Pure Storage FlashArray says no to forklift upgrades. Usually hardware requires downtime, but Pure Storage FlashArray has improved their footprint so that they are not asking for downtime; everything is just a non-disruptive activity, which is why customers are more inclined towards Pure Storage FlashArray. Customers want more of the models in their environment due to the performance they are giving, and everything is in one Pure1 Array console where we can view all the models on one page or just an orchestration tool. You don't miss anything; you have replication, notifications about replication, and details about which host groups replication is happening in and if that replication is successful or failed. On a daily basis, our purpose is to create volumes for infrastructure; our daily activities include creating volumes and mapping them to the host, doing any migrations from a VM, clearing the data stores, and carving the volumes to those VMs. One key factor is the data compression with a ratio of 5:1, focusing on space efficiency, inline deduplication, and the compression Pure Storage FlashArray works on; that is a major factor we can suggest to any customer. Analytical capabilities are crucial. Daily, we check the throughput and consumption, and Pure Storage FlashArray provides predictions for one year regarding usage. This prediction helps plan updates well ahead. For support, we just raise a case, and they follow up and get it done. There is also AI readiness, but with the model R2, we don't have much of that AI readiness. For others, we do have AI readiness that predicts capacity based on daily or monthly trends, enabling us to analyze how much space we need or if we need to expand the disk shelf. From an operational point of view, a good feature is that if you accidentally delete a volume, it will be retained in the destroyed state for the next twenty-four hours, which is not the same with any other vendor. I have worked in this storage domain for the past fifteen years, and this option is remarkable, benefiting any L1 or L2 engineer. Additionally, from a compliance perspective, Pure Storage FlashArray has REST APIs enabled. I have not explored automation much, but from a security standpoint, it is strong with encryption data. If you want to automate, you can easily integrate with all clouds and explore Pure Cloud for scheduling workloads, including volume creation. Customers find benefit in Pure Storage FlashArray's single management pane of glass due to the dual controller and active-active setup. If one of the controllers goes down, all workloads automatically shift to the other controller, ensuring their data is safe and accessible at all times. This is a highlighted feature that any customer desires because their data should always be accessible. For SAN workloads, we use Pure Storage FlashArray because for SAN FC fiber channel, we don't use it; we use NetApp for NAS activities. We have clearly split this, so SAN is for mission-critical applications, while network-attached storage handles file systems. This architecture helps us maximize the benefit from Pure Storage FlashArray due to the significant workloads from this giant retail client. From a footprint and energy consumption perspective, you can see energy consumption from the Pure1 storage portal on a daily basis, and it is very compact. The three models we use consume only three units, which is quite low. From a footprint and data center perspective, it doesn't occupy much space. As everything moves to cloud, there are requirements to avoid excess spending on data centers, and Pure Storage FlashArray is efficient in energy consumption and is environmentally friendly.

Security features impress while response times need improvement
We use cloud storage security, which is a virus scanner for their infrastructure, as a new addition. Other than that, it focuses on serverless features, such as Lambda and Aurora SQL server databases. CSS cloud storage security, which is offered by AWS, is integrated into our system. It functions as a virus scanner that monitors whenever any incoming file arrives. The AWS service is excellent security-wise, and I have seen some other features besides security, such as automatic scaling that helped us significantly. Regarding integration, it provides us with the benefit that our data is kept within our account only.

OpEx storage model has simplified SLAs, capacity planning, and cyber‑resilient recovery
The most valuable features in Pure Storage Evergreen One are the SLAs, which are tied to the kind of services that we are going to run. These SLAs govern the consumption and the reporting as well. I find it more attractive when we are tied to a specific SLA, and the VRA is providing the services within that agreed SLA, then there is no requirement for a complete capacity assessment. The entire capacity review, assessment, and recommendations come as part of Pure Storage Evergreen One solution. Pure Storage Evergreen One has a list of services which will provide the services, including cyber resilience. First, they have complete capacity management which is done by them and which will also provide us a heads up on how we are consuming the services and where these services can be improved. Second, it will also provide us some of the key attributes, such as we can take the snapshots and LUN snapshots, which will provide a cyber-resilient copy where data can be secured in case of a cyber attack. We have an option to basically recover the earliest. Third, because of this feature and because of Pure Storage Evergreen One, I am talking about the Evergreen aspect. Because of Evergreen, we also have an option to upgrade the controllers based on the SLAs. If the agreed SLAs are not meeting the requirement, we have a provision to upgrade the controllers and so on. This is giving a good feature for us to evaluate and provide a valuable proposition to the customer who wants to use Pure Storage as a Pure OpEx model.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Using this solution has improved our consolidation ratio and it saves us a lot of space."
"It has improved the way our organization functions by improving the resilience of our infrastructure by quite a bit."
"It benefits our IT organization in the way that it's easier for the administrators to manage."
"On a scale of one to ten, where ten is the most comfortable pricing, I rate the solution a nine out of ten."
"It saved a lot of space, as far as physical space in our data center."
"We've been using FlashArray's snapshot for backups. Their replication across sites and response time are also excellent."
"Very efficient storage"
"It releases those to new teams within minutes at a very small storage cost amount."
"We are not that big of a cloud user. We just use it for the storage of our bytes. The most valuable aspect is the storage."
"The solution is scalable."
"We need our storage to expand based on demand but storage is a bit costly, so we start with a smaller amount and, as we grow, we use EFS on demand and it manages our costs."
"We haven't seen any downtime or challenges when using the services."
"Its elasticity and flexible pricing are the most valuable. For Amazon EFS, you are charged based on the storage. It is also very fast and stable with a very simple and intuitive interface."
"Amazon EFS (Elastic File System) is an excellent service that provides a serverless solution with unlimited storage and easy configuration."
"The initial setup was straightforward."
"There are huge money savings, as we can save more than half of our costs."
"Pure Storage has the highest Net Promoter Score in the market."
"The Evergreen program is excellent, and the pricing is quite reasonable. My friends who work there are doing very well and consistently achieving strong results. Like any company, they experience occasional downturns but perform impressively overall."
"The most valuable features in Pure Storage Evergreen One are the SLAs, which are tied to the kind of services that we are going to run, and these SLAs govern the consumption and the reporting as well."
"We have snapshots. We put snapshots on disks, and we can save information. In the case of ransomware, everything is in the snapshot. We have a snapshot lock on it, so it's safe."
"The speed of the product is quite a bit better in performance than the previous peer environment we were running on, and it seems to have a better feature set."

Cons

"With scalability, I have run into a little problem with our last upgrade. There were some undocumented limitations to the number of drives that our controller could run on. So, instead of putting in a new data pack as we had anticipated, we had to keep adding and removing to get up to the capacity that we needed to be. What should have been a one day process (or a few hours) turned into a month and a half process."
"The scalability of the solution is extremely costly."
"I would love to see a true one click upgrade solution."
"Improved reporting on the deduplication and compression functionality would be beneficial."
"We would like to integrate it more with our backup solutions."
"I would like to migrate to the cloud in the future and know how that would actually work with this product."
"It would be nice to have a better view of the allocated capacity on their Platform as a Service solution because we have to do some manual calculations to understand how much we are going to pay every month to use the storage that is allocated."
"The cost of the storage needs improvement."
"When we faced some issues, the support team took a lot of time to resolve them."
"What should be improved in Amazon EFS (Elastic File System) is the costing, as it should be reduced, but that depends on Amazon."
"Elastic File Systems can be expensive due to the nature of data transfer costs, using services like SSTP, and potentially being costly in a rate-shift context."
"The platform's connectivity could be improved to be more comparable to S3 buckets, which offer better API availability."
"EFS could be improved by including a one-click setup."
"I don't have notes on improvements."
"Its deployment process could be faster while installing the Python package directly into the environment."
"The user activity needs to be more connected and not required to connect to a PC or a device."
"I'm not sure if any improvements are needed."
"Many customers report that the starting price is quite high. However, the overall total cost of ownership can be reduced over time due to features like the Evergreen architecture, which allows savings through less management and environmental benefits."
"To me, I think it's a little expensive. Then again, you get what you pay for."
"I would love to explore more options on what Pure Storage Evergreen One can offer in general, mostly from the cybersecurity perspective and air gap."
"The only potential drawback is that Pure Storage might be overkill if you don't need microsecond response times."
"It would be nice to have support in Swedish."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I'm good with the licensing. Of course, pricing can always be less... It's actually not a bad pricing model, considering I don't have to rip-and-replace."
"FlashArray is expensive, but the quality justifies the price."
"Our licensing is on a yearly basis. So, every year, we renew. We could do a three-year contract, but right now, we only do a one-year."
"In terms of other contemporary arrays, Pure is something you need to have a use case for, as it's not priced for you to buy one off-the-shelf. If you have a use case, heavy lift Oracle Databases, any type of noticeable virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI), or need low latency and high throughput, you should consider all-flash at least and probably Pure Storage."
"I would rate it a seven out of ten for pricing. It could be improved."
"The licensing is $100,000."
"It was less expensive than some of the alternatives. It's not as though it was a premium price to get that kind of quality. It's a very competitive product from a price perspective..."
"Pure Storage has not helped to reduce our HANA licensing costs."
"The product's price depends on the services and the size and capacity at which it is used in a business environment."
"The product charges are based on the amount of data stored."
"Amazon EFS (Elastic File System) offers a pay-as-you-go model, so whenever you use its services, you need to pay."
"It has flexible pricing. You are charged based on your storage."
"I would rate the pricing 7 out of 10."
"The main challenge with EFS is its cost, which is slightly higher compared to EBS or S3. For one GB or ten GB of data, S3 is much cheaper. EFS could cost around $30 to $50 per month for similar usage."
"The solution's price is mid-ranged."
"The pricing is very good."
