Has enabled smoother customer interactions but needs improvement in voice quality and natural understanding
One aspect that could be improved in Amazon Lex is that the voices are not the best at this point in time. The voices really need to step up similar to OpenAI and Google's NLU voices. The NLU also sometimes fails to work correctly. There are some use cases where there's a built-in address field type that you can use on a slot to identify addresses. The NLU doesn't capture it particularly well, and it usually matches the wrong addresses. In our deployments, we've decided not to match or use that field for address manipulation and we just use the text string and then deal with it.

AI projects have gained customer trust and integrate smoothly with existing workflows
The solution is not the most mature product. The choice was made because Microsoft holds approximately 95% of the market in Southeast Europe, and all customers request Microsoft products. There are actual bugs in the way it works that cause breakdowns. Consistency and reliability are significant issues, as it doesn't have the expected reliability in the way it returns information and data. The language models are behind, particularly with non-English languages such as Greek, Romanian, and Bulgarian. There is a real issue with non-English language support that needs to be addressed. We see different consistency across regions and times, with performance dropping significantly after 3:00 or 4:00 PM when US users access the system. More stability, reliability, consistency, and better reasoning in non-English languages would be beneficial.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The tool's most valuable feature is its natural language processing. With this, customers can directly input using their voice. We can use it for many applications, not just for this. We can train the bot or whatever else based on the business requirement. I like how we can easily train the bot in Amazon Lex. It can also handle different dialects and languages."
"The most valuable aspect of Amazon Lex is its ability to integrate advanced AI models like Gen AI."
"The chatbot platform cost has been recovered in just a few months, the platform itself costs us less than $5000 annually and is taking care of 1 million requests from end-users, and the AI has managed to make online sales worth $75,000 in just six months."
"It helps context control natively so that you can manage the context immediately without the need for custom code."
"I assess the benefit of integrating Amazon Lex with other AWS services as being very effective."
"The solution's most valuable feature is the integration of generative AI with Lex bot."
"The solution is very user-friendly."
"The benefits I have seen from using Amazon Lex include call containment on a contact center, which can increase up to 50%, representing a tremendous advantage, and you can reduce the footprint of a data center ingress by using a web page with a bot instead of making a phone call, as well as use Alexa and create a bot to use inside Alexa, eliminating the need for an actual phone device."
"Microsoft's security and governance capabilities make it easier for us to sell to our customers."

Cons

"Lex is not multilingual and supports only English."
"The product can be expensive based on our workloads."
"The product could improve natural language understanding capabilities and provide more robust voice integration features to deliver a seamless user experience."
"One aspect that could be improved in Amazon Lex is that the voices are not the best at this point in time."
"Lex is not multilingual and supports only English."
"Amazon Lex's utterances could be improved."
"I get error at times while developing the tool from scratch."
"The areas of Amazon Lex that could be improved include context management."
"There are actual bugs in the way it works that cause breakdowns."

Pricing and Cost Advice
