Enhanced security and streamlined management drive efficient connectivity
Open source is a standard solution where you take a gray box or white box and put the software from your end. You can do programming with Ansible and make the network work in the software-defined mode, providing automation and management capabilities. I am currently working with VMware. It integrates easily with everything and can work with any system. When discussing micro-segmentation, it enhances security, providing more secure data in your data center while allowing for extra layers of security outside your data center. If you have an ACI, there is communication between locations, keeping your data secure in your data center and throughout the path it takes, such as to SD-WAN or the cloud. I work with cloud solutions including AWS, Azure, GCP, and private cloud. My overall rating for VMware NSX is 8.5 out of 10.

Pros

"Apstra Operating System's most important features are the security and AB test to define what approach we need to take in my company. Additionally, the solution does not take a lot of maintenance."
"VMware NSX offers some of the best features for security, such as micro-segmentation."
"The most valuable feature of VMware NSX is the DFW (distributed firewall)"
"The micro-segmentation and the ability to create policy rules are valuable."
"The organization of it is logical, useful, and intuitive."
"VMware NSX is a very good solution. It's also a scalable solution."
"Though I haven't been working a lot on VMware NSX, it's good to have. What I like the most about it is that its console is good, and it doesn't take a lot of effort in terms of doing my daily tasks on it or what it's meant for. VMware NSX is still a preferred product in the market."
"The most valuable features for us at this early stage are the interface and the integration with existing VMware solutions."
"The migration methods are the most valuable aspect of this solution."

Cons

"The report data could improve in Apstra Operating System."
"The ticket support response time from VMware could be improved. Often, callbacks are delayed, which can be problematic if the servers are in production."
"Lacks integration with other solutions."
"I would rate this product an eight because it's a good product but it needs more work. They should fix some of the bugs."
"We have been satisfied with the technical support. They were able to solve our problems. However, they could be faster."
"We would to have a reverse proxy. This would add great value to the solution."
"The solution is only sold as part of a bundle and not as an individual product."
"There were some issues with finance and other accounting."
"The price could be better. The non-enterprise version of the product should also be improved. I would like VMware to expand beyond the network and provide some VLAN technologies and more. I think we have one, but it's more on the distribution side because it's more on the upper side of the network. I'm looking forward to that."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The price of the solution is competitive."
"The price of VMware NSX is very good compared to other solutions."
"VMware NSX is a cheaper product compared to its competitor, Cisco."
"Our customers have definitely complained about its cost. It's expensive. I'd rate it a nine out of ten in terms of pricing where ten represents a high price. There are other products out there that are equally expensive."
"VMware has always been geared towards enterprise and their pricing options are a bit high. Their price is higher than other options in the market."
"We haven't had to hire a dedicated network engineer because NSX handles 90 percent of it. The reduced overhead in terms of managing networks has been the biggest plus."
"Pricing and licensing could be improved as we are a government entity. Lower pricing could always help."
"The price of VMware NSX is optimal. Additionally, the price of the solution can be negotiated with the vendor. Many areas of the solution can impact the cost, such as features, time for onboarding, and support needed."
"VMware NSX is expensive and everything is licensed. We have to pay for each individual feature."
