Building reliable web APIs and sites has become faster and development stays well supported
I think Microsoft can make ASP.NET better by catching up with other frameworks by adopting features that are very popular in those frameworks, such as minimal APIs and other innovations. They have introduced Blazor, which is their newer front-end development software framework, but unfortunately, Blazor is not well adopted in the market. However, I feel that they will catch up in the future as Blazor has a lot of potential. In my opinion, there is not anything extra needed immediately for ASP.NET; the framework is self-sufficient and very mature at this stage. The problem lies with wider adoption, as some people are anti-Microsoft and prefer open-source alternatives such as React. Microsoft could potentially do a better job at marketing these solutions, but other than that, the tool has the potential to be used in any enterprise-level applications. I would say the setup process for ASP.NET is relatively simple, but with the latest generation of user management or integration with OpenID, the documentation is not comprehensive in terms of what you can do with the latest libraries. They support many things and have decoupled themselves from their own identity servers, but still need to improve documentation considerably.

Offers ability to directly share documents and highly stable
It's been stable for me. I haven't encountered any issues with the sites I've developed locally within the organization as long as the license remains valid. It's very stable. I haven't had any issues with outages or needing to republish content. It's always accessible to authorized users, so it's stable. The stability is almost a ten out of ten for me.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Easy to use and develop pages."
"We have been using ASP.NET framework from mobile development to web development, and it just works like a perfect solution to each possible project I've come across in life up till now."
"The solution provides a good framework for creating commands and portals for user log-ins and can perform many functions such as special credentials or authorizations that are specific to each user."
"The solution is very easy to maintain because UI management is simple and many libraries are available."
"The solution is useful for seeing what old technology was before the new technology we use today, such as .NET."
"ASP.NET's best features are its application structure and API testing."
"While using ASP.net, we can create interactive websites."
"I would say that we have seen a return on investment when it comes to this solution."
"I recommend this product to any organization who wants to have a nice framework for building their apps."
"The most valuable feature of SharePoint Designer is the storing of files. In the Office 365 version, there is the capability to share files with others which is helpful. The files have cross versions capability. If the solution is shut down abruptly the file is stored on the system automatically."
"The Power App is the most valuable feature."
"The most valuable part of the solution is its ability to allow for a high degree of customization."
"The previous version of the solution was good as we had different views of both the design and the code."
"The most valuable features of SharePoint Designer are integration and collaboration capabilities, such as allowing more than one person to edit a file."
"We mostly used this solution for file storage and basic functions, etcetera."
"The solution tightly integrates with all other collaboration tools."

Cons

"Scripted languages like AngularJS and Node.js are much faster than using ASP on the client side."
"One last thing that needs to be improved is the Azure developer experience, the AZD commands, and how to deploy Aspire applications using different methods, especially on Kubernetes."
"An area for improvement is the structure template."
"There is room for improvement with the interface. It is not very fast at times."
"Sometimes we have issues with instability and it crashes, which is something that should be made to work better."
"The capability related to Python needs to be improved."
"I am sure there is something that has room for improvement but nothing specific comes to mind."
"It should be open source or deployable to any operating system so that the dependency can be removed."
"It needs to align with PowerApps and Power Automate."
"The solution is not very flexible when trying to access the solution via a personal PC."
"SharePoint Designer's integration with Microsoft tools could be improved."
"The scalability is a little bit complex. We do have a lot of issues with scalability."
"We would like to see an improvement in the stability and overall consistency of performance in this solution."
"We'd like it if we got less frequent updates."
"The search function should improve in the solution."
"SharePoint is not a great product. It can be much better in many ways."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"This is a free solution. However, we have some server licensing costs which are not directly a cost of using the solution."
"ASP.NET is an open-source solution."
"The solution is open source and free."
"The pricing is a bit high and I believe that it can be brought down."
"On a scale from one to ten, with one being cost efficient and 10 being the most expensive, I would rate ASP.NET's pricing at six. There used to be IAF, which you could spin on a Windows machine. However, that sort of setup does not exist for Linux machines. Because customers still prefer a Windows underlying infrastructure, it can get expensive."
"ASP.NET is open-source and free of charge."
"ASP.NET is not an expensive solution."
"The solution is comparatively cheaper, and you don't have to pay anything for a developer license."
"The pricing is fair."
"SharePoint Designer is a free product. It's SharePoint that needs a license, not SharePoint Designer."
"The tool's pricing is cheap."
"This solution is free of charge."
"We are using an enterprise SharePoint Designer license."
"The cost of the solution is based on multiple factors such as the number of users, and any customization that may be required."
"I've never paid for SharePoint Designer. What I paid for, is the SharePoint license, the cava, and then the client accesses the line fee."
"SharePoint Designer's pricing is okay."
