We evaluated Microsoft master data services – it's nice but far from Ataccama RDM especially in workflow features
We use this system for managing reference data. It’s the most useful system for data warehouse because all data sources have to come from relational database. Unfortunately before Ataccama RDM was installed, some reference code books came from EXCEL, which is definitely an error-prone data source that does not have proper dataflow and quality checks when inputting data. We are using this system also for managing hard-coded logic in ETLs by creating special reference tables and creating workflows to update it in a manageable way. We will use it for managing code book which is currently booked in some systems but doesn’t have sexy features as in Ataccama RDM. This system can simplify data transfer between systems, eliminate extra copies and is different from a time perspective.

Handles large data volumes effectively and offers competitive pricing
There is a lot of improvement required, as we still face some cache issues most of the time, which is a challenge that we expect to see resolved in the future. Additionally, there is some limitation when we are working with a tool, especially regarding In and Out parameters, and I feel that this aspect should be improved going ahead. We face issues with the API side, as Cloud Application Integration cannot handle large volumes; according to the API page, there is a limitation of 500 records or 500 MB. The AI integrated into the Informatica Intelligent Cloud Services solution is called Application Integration, where we still face challenges when dealing with huge volumes, as previously explained.

Pros

"Really best product for this certain task area – to make reference data is manageable."
"The features that I have found most valuable are, first of all, that it comes as part of this whole bundle of Informatica tools. So if you've been implementing Informatica MDM across a business, you'd often find it comes with it. It's been thrown in as a sweetener. The adoption of it is often the challenge because as part of your MDM project, governance is seen as something beyond the MDM and is often restrictive. So this tool actually, for the first time, when you talk to data governance teams, gives a holistic view of what a data governance team can do with this tool."
"Informatica MDM stands out as a tool that can give you the flexibility needed for doing channel-specific data quality or business validation."
"Customer service and technical support are excellent."
"The solution scales well."
"The fuzzy matching capability is a great feature."
"The most valuable feature of Informatica Axon is that it is flexible and user-friendly."
"Data integration is the most valuable feature. The ability to connect to any of the sources and enterprise applications makes our lives easier."
"There isn't any human touch involved. It's just an automated business process to build different applications and talking to various APIs using the client's ecosystems. We then build new functionalities out of it."

Cons

"Creation process of services for on-line validation data (special services which are able to be used by another system) is too complicated."
"I have encountered some issues using the substitution, which is one of the techniques of data masking."
"Cost-wise, it could be better."
"The product isn't mature enough to provide suitable connectors to various data engines."
"I would like to see more functionality added so that it is a bit closer to how much you can do with Informatica PowerCenter."
"Managing the licenses with the on-premises version was difficult."
"Though EDC has maximum coverage, a few things were not available to scan, but I think EDC is evolving to address this issue."
"The product could be improved in the area of architecture and technology. All the parts are old."
"Informatica Cloud Data Quality has significant room for improvement. It is not stable, and there are several issues, especially on the cloud side, unlike the on-premise version which was very stable."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"The pricing structure is good, but having to pay for extra drivers to be used in an ICS environment makes me a little nervous."
"I have no idea what the price actually is. It is probably not going to be the cheapest, but it is a pretty stable and robust platform from the backend standpoint."
"It's offers value for money. They're more competitive with respect to pricing and offerings."
"it's expensive, but if you're looking for a stable solution, Informatica MDM is a good one to choose."
"The product has a high price point."
"We switched to Informatica PIM because it was cheaper than the Oracle solution. It is cheaper initially, but they will bundle it later. This is what happens in the industry."
"Informatica MDM's pricetag should come down. They have to cut some costs."
"The solution is very expensive."
