Can be fine-tuned as required, provides real-time data but lacks sufficient machine learning capability
In terms of machine learning, there are a few areas that can be improved including short terms in the SAP system. Currently, it requires a team member to manually read the short term and then assign it to a team rather than having it assigned automatically. A downside of Avantra is that it comes with predefined values. Another issue is that identical recurring problems create duplicate tickets rather than showing them as repeats. They also need to do some kernel updates which I believe they're working on but I haven't seen it yet; I'm hoping the solution will be completely automated. I would like to see more on the machine-learning front and to have some third-party tools.

Centralized control has improved data center virtualization and streamlined DC DR replication
The pricing of VMware vCenter is high. What was earlier, before it was acquired by Broadcom, was different. Now, Broadcom has acquired it, and the earlier arrangement was that we used to bundle the license and purchase it according to our choice. Now, they bundle it with vSAN, which many organizations may not use. Although we purchase it along with the bundled license, we pay for something which is of no use to us because we have our own storage. If they had separate pricing for each module, organizations could purchase only the modules they need, and the price would lower. For smaller organizations, this can become a huge cost issue. For larger organizations, there is no issue, but for medium-sized organizations, they have to shell out a lot.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It's just very user-friendly, and it's very easy to monitor the servers using Avantra."
"It prevented two major failures in our SAP production systems."
"Deployment was amazingly short and simple; I do not think I have seen any SAP-related product installs ready to work so fast, and out-of-box it included most of the functions and settings that we needed."
"It's very easy to manage and use."
"You can customize alerts based on need."
"I definitely recommend this solution, it provides good value for money."
"The most valuable feature of Avantra is automation. The reduction of manual work and having them automated is one of the top reasons why I would use it."
"The integration of vCenter server with any software, whether from VMware or a third party, is smooth and straightforward."
"The initial setup is straightforward even for complex environments with around 100 hosts."
"The most valuable feature is the ease of migrating services from one host to another during maintenance."
"We use VMware vCenter for centralization and to manage all the VMs."
"The platform is very effective for managing virtual infrastructure. It has improved our virtual infrastructure and virtual machine deployment in several ways."
"In vCenter, I can easily manage storage and move it from one server to another, which is beneficial for the environment."
"I usually use the DRS, distributed resource scheduling, to balance resources between mini ESXi and CPU."
"VMware vCenter is the best from a management perspective, scoring ten on a scale of one to ten."

Cons

"The dashboard needs to improve."
"The machine-learning is lacking and should be improved."
"The dashboard needs to improve; it's not so clear right now and we need it to be more usable so we can have all of our reports in one easy-to-access place."
"I think they can improve their UI, while very intuitive, I would like to see graphic updates."
"We are currently exploring automation options for various areas, and Avantra should consider implementing automation for change request management, an area they have not yet ventured into. While Avantra is currently excelling in monitoring and system refreshes, there is scope for improvement in automating change request management. In addition to primarily focusing on SAP, Avantra currently performs kernel patches which are core SAP patches. However, exploring more into OS patching could be another potential area for Avantra to expand its automation capabilities."
"A downside of Avantra is that it comes with predefined values."
"The scalability could be enhanced."
"Enhancing the product's capabilities on the backend could be beneficial."
"The pricing of VMware vCenter is high. Now, they bundle it with vSAN, which many organizations may not use."
"The support for the Linux operating system wasn't great when we used it."
"The monitoring features are limited."
"They could provide an easier way to learn NSX and troubleshooting processes for the product."
"We face some upgrade patch management issues."
"There needs to be improvement in the pricing model, as the host license is already very high, and customers should have more open options for creating automation scenarios out of the box."
