Helps improve our incident response time, and our mean time to resolve, but visibility is limited
In my previous project, I successfully led the end-to-end deployment of a Splunk migration. The process went smoothly thanks in part to Splunk's professional services team. They conducted a thorough assessment, identified all our potential pain points, and developed a tailored solution and migration plan. This comprehensive approach ensured a seamless transition. Our core deployment team consisted of 5 internal members and two specialists from Splunk. Additionally, the project included a project manager and a product owner. We also benefited from the expertise of two professional service consultants and two representatives from the customer's side. An on-site admin architect further provided valuable technical support. Throughout the deployment process, we leveraged support from various resources whenever necessary. This included assistance with configuration changes, deployments, and other related tasks. We also collaborated effectively with our teammates to ensure a smooth and successful implementation.

Pros

"AWS Auto Scaling is very good for managing traffic and creating new instances when necessary."
"AWS Auto Scaling is cost-effective and very useful for businesses."
"The product provides self-healing features."
"Our internal business applications are hosted in AWS Auto Scaling."
"When a lot of traffic comes into our organization, the product scales our instances based on our environment’s requirements."
"AWS Auto Scaling is very good for managing traffic and creating new instances when necessary."
"The most valuable feature of the solution is that it scales automatically without manual intervention based on the metrics we provide."
"The solution's monitoring effectively monitors our application and CPU utilization."
"The solution has been stable."
"Having a structure on how to resolve incidents is the most valuable aspect."
"ITSI provides a visual representation of complex tools and context, using color coding and other features to make it easy for anyone at the monitoring or service desk to use."
"Splunk ITSI helps us secure our environment by allowing us to create automatons that run when alerts are triggered."
"The most valuable features are the mapping of the entities, which provides a comprehensive analysis, and the service analyzer for thresholding."
"What I like the most is the event correlations. It's a file structure, and ITSI has a correlation layer where you can normalize the events from different sources. Once these events are normalized, you set up rules to aggregate them into different or the same attributes. After the rules are defined, you can automate the process to solve the issue automatically."
"The search function is the most valuable. It includes regular expressions and wild card searches. We'll write searches using field and case-sensitive services and use all of these search types to write an alert condition. Splunk ITSI has another feature called Glass Table that offers a visual representation."
"The service analyzer view and automatic creation of incidents are valuable."

Cons

"The speed of the solution must be improved."
"In comparison to other public clouds, the product is costly."
"The setup can be a bit complex in some situations."
"The product’s security features need improvement."
"It requires a downtime before deploying the Auto Scaling group."
"There hasn't been a need for improvements."
"It is sometimes very critical to deploy on AWS since some servers are already running in the background. There are challenges for employees on how to deploy at a given time."
"The solution must improve automation."
"Currently, Glass tables in ITSI only display metrics related to KPIs."
"There should be entity conflict resolution, specifically regarding duplicate entities. There should be case sensitivity for various keys amongst entities, specifically host names. We need IT metrics-based indexes and more content packs. I know they are coming out with these features"
"Integration is the most critical area to improve in Splunk IT Service Intelligence (ITSI). It wasn't a great experience because you had to do a little back and forth to integrate the solution."
"They should make it easier to use. Many people are new to it. It is hard and has a steep learning curve."
"The user interface visualization could be improved."
"Splunk ITSI lacks out-of-the-box solutions for enterprise users."
"While integrating services and KPIs in ITSI is straightforward, I found it challenging to analyze them with the service analyzers; specifically, using the deep dive feature to pinpoint the exact source and time of an issue proved difficult."
"Quality-of-life features have room for improvement."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Splunk is pretty expensive, but it gives you a decent insight into the data. It is easy to learn, and ITSI has a great interface. You can run those queries and pass the data. I"
"Its pricing has been changed as per the market. You get a good support service with it as well. They have 24/7 customer support. There is a portal, and if you are having issues, they are available in order to resolve them. So, its pricing isn't too much."
"Splunk ITSI is a premium application and comes with a premium price tag."
"Splunk ITSI is a pay-per-use service that is priced fairly based on the amount of data we use."
"Splunk pricing is high."
"I wouldn't say there's been an issue with the solution's pricing because we went through the AWS marketplace and negotiated directly with Splunk."
"I would prefer that the price be reduced, as it would be easier to implement it and to sell it."
