Provides diverse tools for effective data management but can improve customer support practices
AWS Storage Gateway is very customer friendly in terms of their features, though perhaps not in price. If there is something that the customer needs to do with moving data from one point to another, they will make sure that is available to customers. At one time they had dozens of migration tools. They make it possible for data to get from anywhere to AWS Cloud, though not necessarily back. They will make it very easy and will do customer engagements to get that data from any legacy device to AWS. AWS Storage Gateway was born of all the cloud blank products, including Snowball, the big mobile unit. All of them were created to get more people to the AWS platform. In the past few years I have worked for data security software companies implementing customer solutions.

A scalable, stable solution with good tech support and good ROI
I think the most important thing to consider is the complexity of the organization's distribution of user data. For example, some organizations have three, four, five, or more servers, so it's most important to think about how they are going to handle the migration of those servers to HCP Anywhere Edge. I would rate this solution as a nine out of ten.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The stability has to be a given; without that, you wouldn't use the product, as it needs to be a reliable solution."
"The solution's most valuable features stem from its ease of use, including how easy it is to set up, configure, and manage the tool."
"AWS Storage Gateway is very customer friendly in terms of their features, though perhaps not in price."
"It's a cloud storage solution, which makes it quite flexible. If you have one terabyte today and need ten tomorrow, it's not a problem."
"The solution gives us the ability to move large amounts of data to the cloud and it gives us on-premises connectivity. Additionally, the storage can be shared from the cloud to on-premise."
"The most valuable feature is that it requires less utilization of space, compared to storing directly to the database of the system. It offers a unique way of doing things."
"From my perspective, it's better than the traditional way of having a physical server."
"AWS Storage Gateway is used when there's a high requirement for storage and the company has their goal to move to the cloud and they are not comfortable having it in the data centers. They want the data to move to the cloud. We propose storage services that give them flexibility. They don't have to manage their data centers by themselves because it is being managed by Amazon or Microsoft. They do not have to worry about security and vulnerability issues. That is a strategy that companies can find value in and choose a cloud service."
"The most valuable feature of this solution is that it can be used for manually attaching storage."

Cons

"I would rate it an eight out of ten, not a ten because I cannot say that it's perfect."
"We've had issues with bandwidth in the past, and we don't know where the bottlenecks are."
"Data migration and collection could be made easier for improvements - there's still work to be done there."
"Although we have not used this application long, I am not sure, in its current configuration, that we could scale this solution to meet our needs."
"AWS Storage Gateway could improve by having different kinds of storage. For example, allowing all kinds of data, whether it's images or structure, not structure data. This would be great."
"The initial setup takes some hours. It could be simplified and that would make the user experience better."
"I cannot say it's perfect."
"Its interface could be easier to use."
"There is room for improvement in the administration of the users' files and information."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The solution's price is reasonable."
"Licensing is paid monthly. Pricing is in the mid-range - not too high or too low."
"We pay a monthly license."
"My company needs to get monthly licenses to use the tool."
"AWS Storage Gateway is reasonably priced. The price depends on how much you need. The whole synopse model comes into the picture for the cloud where it depends on how many instances per VM and the price will increase. It's a reasonable price because with all the competition around the price has to be competitive. It's not very costly."
"There is a monthly subscription for the use of this solution."
