Balances loads efficiently and saves costs but could improve initial setup
The typical use case for Barracuda Load Balancer ADC involves managing and distributing network traffic efficiently to maintain system performance. Clients use Barracuda Load Balancer ADC for its ability to handle and balance loads across servers I have seen improvements in Barracuda Load…

High availability and strong security have supported our apps but advanced traffic control still improves
LoadBalancer Enterprise can be improved because the layer seven programmability is not as powerful as it could be. We cannot write code and programming on it. Additionally, access management and identity options are not available here like they are in F5 VPN. The WAF depth and analytics, such as in-depth logs and the WAF learning option that we have in other load balancers, are much easier to configure and to harden the policies and polish them. That option is not here. Fine-tuning is a bit difficult compared to other solutions. The automation and API maturity does not appear to be at the level of other load balancers. The main limitation is that there is nothing here with regards to F5 APM. There is no iRules option or policy option to manipulate the traffic according to requirements, which is a bit difficult. If an organization is basic and does not want very advanced features, then it is acceptable. However, if advanced features such as iRules are required, and complete detailed WAF monitoring is desired along with policies that can be learned and then implemented afterwards as you have in F5, then LoadBalancer Enterprise lacks these capabilities.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The initial setup was straightforward and deployment took one day."
"The solution is simple and powerful. I find the Barracuda Load Balancer ADC's load balancing function most valuable. It balances the traffic well. The security features, like the Web Application Firewall, are also very helpful."
"I would rate the stability of Barracuda Load Balancer as a ten out of ten; it has high stability."
"The price is very good, and it's not very expensive."
"Barracuda's technical support is good - whenever we have an issue, they immediately connect and resolve it."
"The most useful features in Barracuda Load Balancer are its security capabilities, load balancing efficiency, and scalability."
"The Barracuda solution has improved the way we function by consolidating threat management and network optimization in one standalone appliance."
"In my opinion, the best features offered by LoadBalancer Enterprise are high availability, performance, and resilience."
"We have about 30,000 connections going through at any one time and it's fine, it doesn't seem to sweat. It doesn't get overloaded."
"It has enabled us to have much better service to offer at a cheaper price, and much more resilient."
"The technical support at Loadbalancer.org is possibly one of the best that I have had to deal with and it is 24/7, too."
"It actually makes our whole network more reliable, because of its load balancing capabilities and redundancy."
"The most valuable features of Loadbalancer.org are related to its load balancing capabilities."
"It helps us to route the traffic to the available servers."
"Load balancing helps us distribute both incoming and outgoing data loads evenly among the servers, preventing overload on a single server."

Cons

"There are areas of Barracuda Load Balancer's security that have room for improvement, particularly concerning handling traffic."
"The quality of the solution's performance could be improved."
"We find with WAN optimization it’s a bit unstable but we don't use it for that."
"Load Balancer ADC is competitively priced, but it's not feature-rich, and its technology is not that advanced."
"The Barracuda Load Balancer ADC could be improved with more customization features. For example, F5 uses iRules for custom configurations. I haven't found something similar in Barracuda yet. The load balancer and WAF's basic and common features are enough, but we need more customization options."
"You can run into an issue when one engineer passes the case over to another engineer after their shift and they don't know what the first engineer worked on up to that point."
"It's worth the cost. It's not cheap, but it's a good solution."
"Possibly a more graphical overview page (with colors) to give a two second overview to see if everything is working fine."
"If I have to say something, I suppose they could add an automated configuration backup to an FTP location (or something similar) so you don’t have to manually do it. I don’t see this as a problem, of course, as the configuration rarely changes and we only need one backup, but maybe for other users that feature would be handy."
"We have had one or two small crashes on them, nothing major, but I guess that would be the only thing stopping it from being a 10."
"Documentation needs improvement because having information is essential for working with advanced configurations."
"Originally we had some stability issues with it, so they replaced it with a new box and it's fine."
"I'd like to see scalability improved; it can be costly."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Load Balancer ADC is cost-effective and is about half the price of F5."
"I rate the solution's pricing a five out of ten."
"It was easy to upgrade the license for unlimited clusters and servers. Pricing is fair."
"I love that they do not price on some arbitrary throughput rating where you are guessing at what the load balancer is going to handle."
"It filled a requirement for our project, and it did so at lesser cost than their competitors."
"They're not the cheapest, not the most expensive, but I think value-wise, they're 100%."
"It's worth the cost. It's not cheap, but it's a good solution. If you're looking for a good solution, this is a good solution. Is it cheap? No. Is it worth the money? Yes, I think it is."
"For now, it's stable."
"The solution requires an annual support license of $2,780 for four systems or $695 a year per unit for support not including the units."
"Loadbalancer.org is based on open-source products, but it requires money for support and other activities."
