Automation has replaced nightly monitoring and delivers reliable, unified job scheduling
We have really enjoyed working with JAMS in terms of notifications, alerts, and streamlining. There used to be a process with Automate, which is another product from Fortra, but even before that, the other division of the company that we were merging with had a tool that was built in-house called a file handler or file distributor. It was an in-house developed tool, but it was not as streamlined or as efficient as JAMS is. We literally had to have a dedicated nighttime person monitoring. Although we are 24/7, the divisions of the company that we were using JAMS for have been small scale. While we have automated it, we have streamlined it in such a way that notifications go out and alerts go out, but if there is anything, then we get paged and alerted, and if anything needs to happen at midnight, we can wake up. On the other hand, with the tool I mentioned, the file handler and distributor, we used to have a dedicated nighttime person that had to be sitting and monitoring it to see when a file arrived, whether it met the conditions, and then execute the next particular job. By using JAMS, we have gained a lot more efficiencies in terms of all of those to streamline it, and there is no necessary need for having an overnight engineer just keeping an eye on all of this.

Integrated monitoring has improved real-time visibility and reduced manual incident resolution
BMC AMI Ops has helped my organization positively by reducing the manual monitoring process. Before this tool was implemented, the operators had to constantly watch the dashboard and logs, and issues could be missed if nobody noticed them. With BMC AMI Ops, alerts automatically notify the operations team, allowing users to focus on tasks instead of constantly monitoring these things, reducing the need for manual monitoring and enabling focus on other priority tasks. BMC AMI Ops provides strong monitoring and operational visibility capabilities; however, enhancements in dashboard customization could further improve the overall user experience. Additional automation capabilities will provide greater operational efficiency. The best features that BMC AMI Ops offers, in my experience, are real-time monitoring, intelligent alerts, performance management, automation capabilities, and centralized visibility. The real-time feature stood out the best for me, as it provides system health information, detects issues, and impresses me. The intelligent alerts in BMC AMI Ops are automated notifications in my company, generating notifications for alerts when the system detects abnormal conditions or goes down. For example, when the CPU usage is too high, storage usage crosses the threshold, batch jobs are delayed, transaction response time degrades, or a critical application fails, these intelligent alerts create notifications.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Our company is based on data. Everything we do is data-driven, so it has been very valuable having one place where we can process all of the data and do batch schedules with chunks of data."
"The fact that we no longer need to use Excel spreadsheets is huge."
"It has definitely drastically improved our capabilities to scale our automation. Before JAMS, there were a lot of manual processes. We had a couple of operators who spent all day doing that. A lot of the time with human intervention and human processes, it is as good as the person who may be following a procedure and human error is a big problem."
"The alerting in it is really targeted... you can set specific alerting so that if jobs in a given folder fail, certain people are alerted. You can also set security at the folder level, so that only people in those areas can go set them. That means that the alerting and security can be set at a very granular level."
"Because we have gone from a lot of manual processes to automated processes with JAMS, we have been able to free up IT staff time, and for just the Technical Operations Center team that I manage, it has saved about 20 hours a week."
"This feature helps my team day-to-day by running hundreds and hundreds of jobs on JAMS in a timely fashion, which is extremely important and sensitive, providing a lot of reporting to the entire firm and beyond."
"The overall product is fantastic. I love it. It has been a fantastic, solid product. If I have one tiny bit of a problem with it, the support team gets in touch with me right away. I don't know if I've had another service that has been as fantastic as the JAMS support team."
"The user-friendly and adaptable scheduler allows us to manage various scheduling scenarios."
"Batch smoothing our 4HRA and implementation of group capacity profiles has allowed us to run sub-capacity and lower our MLC."
"My team leverages the observability and intelligent monitoring capabilities of BMC AMI Ops to gain early visibility into potential performance and operational issues, and the proactive monitoring and analytics features have helped us identify anomalies sooner, reduce troubleshooting time, and improve overall system availability."
"The integration of IMS commands is very useful, because you do not have to switch to another tool to problem solve solutions."
"MainView has enabled me, in the past, to solve production problems faster, or even avoid them preemptively with warnings."
"It runs like an appliance and has tremendous throughput."
"Jitterbit provides the ability to quickly map data between files and databases."
"We only use small parts of the solution, however, the parts that we use are quite adequate."
"Jitterbit allows us to query databases and web services, manipulate and organize data, and track the flow and the states of different processes."
"The pre-configured connectors to systems like SAP and Salesforce make it extremely easy for someone who wants to integrate these two systems."
"It really simplifies integrations, especially Salesforce related integrations."
"Easy integration with Salesforce Point and click Wizards"
"It does a lot of out of the box job control, which is very good."

Cons

"The documentation is not super... It's not as quick and slick as I'd like it to be."
"The UI is completely unintuitive. We had to go and open up a support ticket with JAMS just to get something back."
"The search capability needs to be improved because when we try to search for a job, it's hard to do."
"It is important to receive notifications if a charged job fails and SQL is halted. JAMS does not provide halted notifications by default, which is a critical feature that needs to be added."
"With no programming experience, I find JAMS code-driven automation challenging due to the required PowerShell scripting."
"JAMS notifications for hung jobs could be improved."
"The biggest area with room for improvement is the area that my organization benefits the most from using JAMS, and that is in custom execution methods. I happen to have a very good C# developer. Ever since we got JAMS, he has spent a lot of time talking to JAMS developers, researching the JAMS libraries, and creating custom execution methods. He's gotten very good at it. He is now able to create them and maintain them very easily, but that knowledge was hard-won knowledge. It was difficult to come by, and if I should ever lose this developer, then I would be hard-pressed to find anyone who could create JAMS custom execution methods quite as well as he can since there really isn't all that much help, such as documentation or information, available on how to create custom execution methods."
"The only thing that they could improve on is the fact that they don't have a browser version of JAMS. They've got all the bits and pieces there if you want to build your own web version of it. It does come with a web client, but it's pretty clunky. They could improve on that."
"BMC AMI Ops provides strong monitoring and operational visibility capabilities; however, enhancements in dashboard customization could further improve the overall user experience."
"An expansion for distributed systems would be great, but probably not workable."
"More visualisation and support for mobile devices would be good."
"Sometimes we experience disconnections and I have to close all Jitterbit programs."
"At the time, the scheduling and error handling left room for improvement. The execution of scheduled tasks was less reliable than it could be."
"The initial setup can be a little bit difficult."
"The only thing I would possibly change is the UI."
"Its API management capabilities need improvement."
"There were some bugs in the product. For example if you run a delete query and test, it deletes the actual data."
"I would like the ability to offer a dedicated cloud version for security."
"Debugging: There should be a better way to track variable values during debugging. The need to print each log is frustrating when you encounter issues."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The pricing is very fair. We have seen very minimal to no price increases over the years. We are not banging down the door of support all the time either. I would imagine if we were a company that submitted a dozen support tickets a week for the last nine years, then it might be a little different because we would be eating up everybody's time. However, for what we get out of it, the pricing is extremely fair. Back when we were originally looking and brought in JAMS, we were looking at a couple of the other competitive products that were in this space, but the pricing from JAMS was far and away better than what the other competitors could offer for the same functionality."
"I haven't been involved in the financial side for several years, but we buy one host and unlimited agents, and we get a reasonable price for that. We're happy with the amount we pay and the scalability it provides."
"Take advantage of its scalability. You can start small. The initial cost is very reasonable. Once you have started picking up the tool and adopting it, then you can scale up from there and buy more agents."
"JAMS is priced competitively compared to similar solutions and offers flexible licensing options to cater to user needs."
"The pricing is reasonable."
"For what it does, the product is priced very well."
"Fortra's JAMS pricing structure has deteriorated significantly since its acquisition by Fortra."
"Our licensing is pretty cheap because we have a state solution. So, we pay only $1,000 a year."
"If you already use other products from BMC, you might be able to get a package deal from BMC's sales department."
"Jitterbit was extremely cost effective for us compared to other options."
"The Jitterbit price is based upon endpoints. They also offer ERP connectors with their Enterprise edition"
"The added bonus is that Jitterbit doesn't charge for any data volume/traffic."
"Each business needs to determine if it is a mission critical aspect."
"The solution's cost is mid-ranged compared to other vendors."
"I do believe Jitterbit has one of the better pricing and licensing options out there compared to its competitors."
