Has required significant improvements due to limited features but offers simple implementation and good support
Boomi AtomSphere API Management has very few features. If you ask me to name the top two, I would say MuleSoft and Apigee, as it depends on the customer-to-customer use cases. After those, WSO2, Kong, and whether you say Informatica API Manager or Boomi AtomSphere API Management, they stand with only three out of ten features which are essential for API management. All the features that Apigee has, they need to add. All the features that MuleSoft has, they need to add. It is not a simple task. The problem is that they lack features. It is not their performance. There are many features to mention. When you take and compare all the features that Apigee has and all the features that MuleSoft has, they need to implement those features.

API management has strengthened security and monitoring but still needs better support and tooling
There are areas of IBM API Connect that need to be improved. I want what Gravitee made, which is much better. Gravitee made many samples for different use cases. First of all, they made examples of use cases, codes, and what the module expects and what the module returns for multiple examples and use cases inside the development. I do not even have to go to the documentation website because everything is included inside the tool when I work on it. This is great, in fact. IBM API Connect should show examples. One other thing is the support. The support of IBM is in India. Every time I want to ask something, they say they need logs, they want this, they want that. Gravitee API asks me to explain the problem without asking a thousand times as if it is a request for a green card in the USA. Then they really explain quickly. IBM is a big company, so everything is standardized with the approach of "You do that, you do that, you request that. If you do not have that, you do not reply to the client." Clients want flexibility today, even if it is a huge company. A stressed client is a client that will want to change to other flexible solutions. When everything is fine, we do not care, but when there is stress and problems, that is when the customer of IBM evaluates the tool really. It is when there are problems. IBM makes a lot of efforts on sales and technical sales, and then that is it.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Boomi AtomSphere API Management is a good product for integrating with Boomi as a backend service."
"The stability of the solution is good."
"Integration is straightforward. There is no issue with it."
"Integrations take less time."
"We can develop almost any interface that we need."
"The product's stability is good."
"AtomSphere is tightly integrated into the Boomi iPaaS platform. And Boomi has been augmenting AtomSphere API Management for the past couple of years so version 2.0 is better than 1.0."
"AtomSphere API Management is a simple platform that's easy to use. If you're using it on-prem, there's a little learning curve."
"The technical support and the user interface are good."
"The most valuable features are: 1. The centralized management: this provides a management module that can deploy and apply security policies to all APIs, including all the gateways that are deployed on-premises and on any cloud because the gateway component can run at a VMware or in a Kubernetes cluster."
"As far as API Connect, I think it offers us more flexibility with our application and potentially would allow third parties to come in and develop for us."
"The fact that the product can provide both security and scale to quite a large number of products, is basically the reason why we chose it, and that's what we like about it."
"The most valuable features of IBM API Connect are its performance and user-friendliness."
"Most of the business value that we are getting out of this solution is that it provides DevOps integration and a catalog for microservices, and we are able to share those APIs instantly within the organization; even if we want to share it outside publicly, then we can have those capabilities."
"I think the most valuable feature is the fact that it sort of combines IBM DataPower being a security gateway with some of the features that are in IIB and IBM App Connect, to kind of build a complete integration."
"One of the most valuable features is the easy-to-use web interface."

Cons

"The product is really complex to manage."
"Boomi AtomSphere API Management has very few features. If you ask me to name the top two, I would say MuleSoft and Apigee, as it depends on the customer-to-customer use cases."
"Overall, I would rate AtomSphere lower than solutions like APG or API Connect."
"The API management has room for improvement."
"The solution must provide more AI services."
"Most of the basic functionality is there in Boomi, but APG is a more feature-rich solution."
"Scalability is an area where Boomi lacks."
"Boomi AtomSphere API Management can be improved in terms of threshold management and policy management."
"The solution could improve security and performance."
"The only downside where improvements are needed is probably on the licensing side."
"I wouldn't recommend this solution to other organizations at this time."
"We have asked IBM for scalability and for some other features that we wanted. We had a dialogue with them and in the end, they have agreed to provide us with features related to API setup and security."
"Infrastructure setup was a bit painful."
"The new version is very unstable."
"Improving the documentation would be beneficial as it currently presents navigation challenges. Incorporating a step-by-step guide could facilitate the integration or migration of various systems, including databases. The existing documentation only comprises plain text, hence incorporating more interactive instructions could enhance its usefulness."
"Stability is not good."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The price is reasonable."
"The product can get very expensive quickly if you connect to multiple databases."
"Boomi AtomSphere API Management gives customers a good price. Price-wise, the product is good."
"Boomi AtomSphere API Management is a cheap product."
"API Connect is expensive - I'd rate their pricing five out of ten."
"The price of the solution is expensive. However, there are a lot of customization capabilities."
"I rate the product price a seven on a scale of one to ten, where one is a low price, and ten is a high price."
"This is a licensed product. If your company is looking to obtain a license, you have to work with IBM partners."
"We pay for the IBM API Connect monthly. We only need to pay the standard licensing fee."
"It's an expensive product."
"It is a pretty expensive tool."
"The pricing is significantly high."
