Proactive log monitoring has reduced production issues and now identifies errors before release
The best features Bronto offers, from what I've seen so far, are mainly the log analysis, integration with other third-party tools, such as Jira and ticketing systems. I'm impressed with how the integrations with Jira and ticketing systems work for me so far. I haven't come across any challenges, but we're still evaluating Bronto against some other providers as well. It's pretty seamless. The thing that surprised me about the features is how easy it was to get set up and get everything put together. Bronto integrates and can pull CloudWatch logs without needing separate SDK calls from our code. Bronto has positively impacted my organization even in this early evaluation phase by being very useful for looking at lower environment logs and evaluating potential issues before they even make it out. We have resolved at least one issue just from the monitoring that Bronto provided.

Datadog needs to introduce more hard limits to cost. If we see a huge log spike, administrators should have more control over what happens to save costs. If a service starts logging extensively, I want the ability to automatically direct that log into the cheapest log bucket. This should be the case with many offerings. If we're seeing too much APM, we need to be aware of it and able to stop it rather than having administrators reach out to specific teams. Datadog has become significantly slower over the last year. They could improve performance at the risk of slowing down feature work. More resources need to go into Fleet Automation because we face many problems with things such as the Ansible role to install Datadog in non-containerized hosts. We mainly want to see performance improvements, less time spent looking at costs, the ability to trust that costs will stay reasonable, and an easier way to manage our agents. It is such a powerful tool with much potential on the horizon, but cost control, performance, and agent management need improvement. The main issues are with the administrative side rather than the actual application.

Pros

"Bronto has positively impacted my organization even in this early evaluation phase by being very useful for looking at lower environment logs and evaluating potential issues before they even make it out."
"The seamless integration between Datadog and hundreds of apps makes onboarding new products and teams a breeze."
"Datadog's log aggregation is really helpful since it lets me and every other engineer on my team login, view, and share logs when we need to debug our application."
"The selection of monitors is a big feature I have been working with."
"Log analytics give us a powerful mechanism for error tracking, research, and analysis."
"The dashboards and the performance of the software have been great."
"The solution has helped our organization with custom events to track specific cases."
"The ease of dashboard creation and alarm monitoring has helped us not only stay competitive but be industry leaders in performance."
"The dashboards provide a comprehensive and visually intuitive way to monitor all our key data points in real-time, making it easier to spot trends and potential issues."

Cons

"The only thing that I would suggest for further improvement is an expansion on Bronto's offerings so far."
"Another issue that I have is with the search syntax, it could be simpler and it feels like there are too many ways to do the same things."
"The real issue with this product is cost control."
"When I started using it years ago, it had stability problems. I remember, specifically, we ran everything in Docker containers. There were some problems getting it into a Docker container with very specific memory limits."
"It lacks consistency in the APIs."
"In production, we intend to use trace IDs generated by RUM to attach to support tickets when a user experiences a traceable network error, and we want to display this trace ID to the user so if they were to contact us about a specific issue, they can provide us an exact ID displayed to them back to us. Currently, this is not possible out-of-the-box client-side without inventing our own solution for capturing these trace IDs, such as shimming the native fetch or returning the ID from the service response."
"The solution needs to integrate AI tools."
"The sheer amount of products that are included can be overwhelming."
"Federated views for Datadog dashboards are critical as large companies utilize multiple instances of the product and cannot link the metrics or correlate the metrics together. This stunts the usage of Datadog."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"Pricing seemed easy until the bill came in and some things were not accounted for."
"At my last company, we did see ROI, specifically around response time. We could get to mission critical things that were down and losing revenue on immediately. So, the product paid itself back."
"It has always scaled for us. Cost scales up too, but that is not necessarily a bad thing. It's reasonable for what they're providing."
"The price of Datadog is reasonable. Other solutions are more expensive, such as AppDynamics."
"The cost is high and this can be justified if the scale of the environment is big."
"The solution is fairly priced but history and log storage can get costly depending on your needs."
"It is easy to run up a large bill, so become familiar with the cost of each piece of your bill and use the metrics they supply to estimate and monitor your bill."
"Our licensing fees are paid on a monthly basis."
