Very good disk encryption, secure authentication, and centralized administration
At the time when this tool was launched on the market, it had new technologies integrated within. It was the beginning of the revolution of computing, and at the beginning, with the characteristics, everything was wonderful. However, if we compare it with today's technologies, we see that it is lacking quite a few things, including a nice interface, more functionalities, integrations with third parties, more security administration in policies, and more detailed reports.

Microsoft BitLocker implementation requires careful consideration. When any BIOS change occurs, Microsoft BitLocker activates because it detects a potential vulnerability, which is its intended function. Since BIOS updates are necessary periodically, it is crucial that whoever implements Microsoft BitLocker knows how to recover the key, especially when dealing with important devices such as a CEO's laptop. The implementation process is straightforward, and it operates in the background. Once initiated, it continues to function even if the computer is turned off. It proceeds without user notification, which is beneficial. The progress can be monitored along with other relevant information.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"From the moment we started using Check Point Secure Web Gateway, we realized its great value and ability to take it not only on-premise but also into our cloud-based environment."
"Check Point GAiA is easy to use."
"One of the characteristics that give us the most value is that it offers the ability to perform HTTPS inspections."
"At the time when this tool was launched on the market, it had new technologies integrated within."
"If you have a Premium Support plan then the technical support is very good."
"Full disk encryption helps us ensure that data stored on a device is encrypted."
"If you want a free solution and work on Microsoft, use Windows BitLocker."
"The tool is stable."
"You can do a silent remote deployment very fast."
"This solution does everything that we need it to do, is very convenient, and fits into our strategy of having everything in a homogeneous Microsoft Cloud."
"The initial setup is very simple."
"Microsoft BitLocker can be used to ensure that stolen PCs or laptops do not lose their data."
"It's very straightforward to recover data. It's safe for us; in case of lost information, it provides multiple options to recover the data."
"The solution's most valuable feature is that it is simple to deploy and manage."

Cons

"Overall, this is a good product but it does lack features that we need."
"The UI was one of the most difficult points to get used to. Due to the UI, even though it was used every day, the administration was complicated."
"We would maybe want (in the future) advanced security in the filtering of access to the metaverse by augmented reality cameras."
"In the next release of this solution, I would like to see application identity support."
"The installation was quite complex."
"The solution could be improved if it was more user friendly."
"For improvement, as it is now, I do not have any support from anyone. There should be a web interface to manage BitLocker. But for now, all I do is just install a new product on the user's machine and create it. I would like to be able to see everything that is happening, even if it is just through a web interface. I would also like to be able to see how many users are provisioned, which users are using BitLocker, and how to disable or enable it. That's what I would like to see."
"They can improve the security of the application and include an encryption disk in the next feature."
"Some of the technical internal functions, such as encryption protocols or something similar, could be improved."
"The product could be improved by simplifying the implementation process and the integration between Active Directory and BitLocker could be better."
"More customization options would have been nice, such as password selection, actions when the screen is locked, etc."
"It takes a very long time to encrypt a disk, so I think that speed is something that can be improved."
"I would recommend BitLocker only because of the economic side, not the technical side. If the features were included in the already existing licenses I would use it. If not, I would recommend other products."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"Microsoft BitLocker's pricing is fair; I rate it a four out of ten."
"It's not about pricing, because we are working with Enterprise companies that already have Windows Enterprise, so BitLocker comes already included as a Windows feature. It's free for Enterprise users. The price is only for deployment. The customer will pay for McAfee, however."
"On a scale from one to ten, where one is expensive and ten is cheap, I rate the solution's pricing an eight out of ten."
"Microsoft BitLocker is a free feature when you are using Microsoft solutions."
"It operates on a subscription model on an annual basis."
"I don't know the costs. In terms of Microsoft licensing, we are at E3 on the business, and we're in the process of pricing out and moving to E5. So, a lot of this is included within our licensing agreements."
"The product's cost is included in Windows."
"BitLocker is included in our license and doesn't cost us anything extra."
