Centralized control has simplified cloud access and has improved operational visibility
If they can have better firewall features as their competitors have, such as Fortinet and Versa, that would help to place this solution better so that we can address security related things. If they can have all the IPS, IDS, everything built on all the edge devices, whether physical or virtual, that could be one improvement. Actually, if customers are existing Cisco customers, if Cisco can be more flexible to leverage the existing investment, that could be another important aspect to save on cost and be more competitive from a pricing perspective. Overall, the pricing or the segment that Cisco deals with is a bit premium, which they charge a bit premium against the competition on the licensing, hardware, and services. The implementation is not straightforward. You need a specialized partner or specialized people who can implement this. It can be simplified a bit from that perspective as well. Mostly the way we implement the policies for a big environment requires a lot of things that we need to take care of. If that can somehow be improved, because they have different components, like they have vManage, they have vSmart, and vBond and all these components have to work with a certain flow that they need to follow.

Redundancy has improved and operations manage global failover for hybrid cloud workloads
I would rate Megaport an eight out of 10 because it's still good, but I would appreciate more options in the future. Regarding Megaport's AI capabilities, I think its governance and security are acceptable for now. I haven't really utilized the AI portion as much, so it's difficult to comment on its accuracy and reliability of output. My overall review rating for Megaport is eight.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"If a company really wants to go with SD-WAN, Cisco is one of the greatest in this area, definitely."
"The most useful feature is centralized telephony."
"Load balancing is a feature that allows us to take the best of our links and distribute the load intelligently, always with an eye on the end-customer experience."
"The solution sufficiently provides ISPs."
"The most valuable features in Cisco SD-WAN are the QoS, AI, and simple interface for users to access."
"You get security, all of the service you need, and it's easy to deploy."
"Cisco is definitely cutting edge, absolutely cutting edge in terms of robustness on the capability of the network to be very stable with very low delay."
"Cisco is always good with technical support, it's easy and the contact is fast when you really need it."
"Megaport impacts my organization by not necessarily lowering cost, but it reduces a lot of time and increases the bandwidth, which increases the performance, especially in terms of overall company performance and network performance."
"I would suggest anyone considering Matterport for physical properties use it, as it is really smooth and fast."
"It is actually pretty important for us; our day starts with Megaport."
"The best feature Megaport offers is the convenience."
"The pricing model of Megaport is appealing, along with its flexibility in providing connectivity to end customers."

Cons

"The cost is too high for certain countries, for example, those in Africa. The solution needs to be more cost-effective."
"The deployment is complex, and Cisco makes everything complicated."
"The initial setup is really complex."
"SD-WAN itself is vendor locked in."
"It would be very helpful if we had better access to a knowledge base, or online documentation, to help both us and our customers learn to use this solution."
"The solution is expensive and could be cheaper."
"Cisco should focus more on making products that are convenient for users. Sadly, I think they are more interested in making money rather than making reliable products."
"The inexpensive Viptela hardware may be replaced with overpriced Cisco routers. This would be a tragic mistake for Cisco as the lightweight commodity platform built by Viptela is the reason to own this solution."
"My suggestion would be for Megaport to make the terminal more user-friendly; I use Windows, so it's not a problem, but I'm not sure how it would work in Linux or Ubuntu-based systems."
"Megaport needs more cross-connects, more connections, and a better interface."
"However, the part that can improve is that it should be a little bit easier to use and more user-friendly."
"There are no notable complaints from customers regarding Megaport, and there hasn't been any identified need for improvement."
"I wish Matterport had a mini map feature to show where we are within the property floor plan."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"We can only buy three-year licenses, not monthly. The cost seems high for us, especially since we're in Vietnam, which isn't a rich country. But we still like the product because it is good."
"Cloud subscription management must be paid for, although this does not incur a perpetual fee."
"It's costly. The cost is high compared to competitors."
"For 600 links, the license for Cisco SD-WAN costs us US$250k a year."
"It is expensive. The license limitation is there in terms of bandwidth. Basically, Cisco is always good in terms of performance and related things. However, if you want to have a license, for example, for 100 Mbps, they charge you because of their 100 Mbps. If you want to go without the license of 300 Mbps, it is a bandwidth license as well. This is not happening with other vendors. That is the reason why we moved away from Cisco. The bill gets a little bit high. I do remember that one time we were trying to increase the bandwidth for at least five devices, and the license got as high as 20-grand for five devices, only for the license. It was expensive for us at the time. Our company is not a big company, but it is a solid company. The price was very high, and we moved away from Cisco because of the price."
"On a scale of one to five, I would rate Cisco's pricing as a three."
"I give the price a seven out of ten."
"It is much cheaper than other solutions. Most of our clients are the top 500 companies, and they all have a corporate contract."
