Useful features for configuring down to ports but extremely expensive
Our company uses the solution's GUI interface to configure and monitor ports. We look at usage and determine if there are any issues.  Cisco is a very qualified company and has been in business for many, many years.  The solution is useful because you can configure all the way down to ports.  You…

Have faced limitations due to high costs but have maintained reliability over time
The primary issue is the pricing, which is very expensive for my company's budget. We cannot afford to pay such a large fee. We are not Microsoft or BMW; we are a small company. As a small company, I have no power to negotiate directly with VMware. Perhaps larger companies have more opportunity to contract directly with VMware, but I do not have that leverage. The only path I can follow is to change solutions. Net.spA is a company working in the field of waste management. We are not a technological company, so we do not have a large margin to justify purchasing and maintaining the VMware infrastructure at current costs.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The initial setup is fairly straightforward if you have a basic setup."
"The solution has a blueprint pattern where you can club multiple machines, define middleware components, define dependencies of components, and create an application pattern for a Java stack that can be consumed across all services using the same TOSCA patterns for CloudCenter, vRealize Automation, and ServiceNow."
"Cisco CloudCenter's scalability is good."
"The solution includes a lot of features and is useful because you can configure all the way down to ports."
"The solution is agile and it has APIs for integration."
"Upgrades are very simple as well because they've allowed us to get updates directly in the CloudCenter Suite manager. If you need to do an upgrade to your setup afterward, you just push a button and it rolls out the parts and retires the old ones. It's seamless and very simple compared to what we've done before."
"The tool is really at the center of our whole digital transformation."
"You can scale it easily."
"It is easy to use from its deployment architecture to use cases. It is straightforward for customers to use. It's a good product and better than the earlier versions."
"The blueprint catalog and interface are easy to use when you log in."
"It has helped me optimize certain VMs and made them more efficient."
"vROps' best feature is the easy integration with the environment."
"The new versions are simple, useful, and expandable."
"We receive an overview from the dashboard of what is happening in our environment."
"One of the most valuable features is the ability to perform 'what-if' scenarios."
"It gives us baselines and visibility at any given time, i.e., visibility that we just don't find with any other product."

Cons

"Cisco can improve their product by being agnostic, not just specific to Cisco components but also supportive of other vendors."
"You don't get all the solution's benefits if you have older switches."
"The improvement I would like to see is not one thing particular to CloudCenter. I'd say it's more of a message that the system is still using a lot of the different products and if they would all just fit better together, they all could be faster together."
"The solution needs to be more simple."
"I'm not a big fan of CloudCenter. I don't have anything against it, however, the on-premise version has been so hard to upgrade and maintain."
"The tool should improve its security on the XDR part."
"Improvements are needed in UI and multi-tenancy for this solution."
"For many clients, the main problem with the solution is the price. Cisco is very expensive. If they could somehow make the pricing more competitive, that would be a big draw."
"If I had a container solution deployed on top of a VMware infrastructure, or outside as well, it would be really helpful."
"One of the big areas that would help us in the future is to focus on using vROps more as a tool to help us respond to these CVEs and security vulnerabilities that are coming in today's world. We're getting CVEs upon CVEs about security vulnerabilities, whether it's a process, or architecture, or VMware bug. It would be nice to be able to have those come into vROps and help us track them across our environment... It would be nice if we could integrate that into a vROps dashboard, which sees every host and every VM in the environment."
"Where the product could improve would be the UI. They just changed the UI on it in this last version, but they could always expand on that, make it a little bit more in depth."
"VMware Aria Operations is considered overpriced. Customers have commented on the pricing issues, noting that doubling the price is not normal. They are reviewing other options due to this pricing concern."
"With our environment right now, stability is the one sticking point. There hasn't been a great deal of handholding in between the different versions, so we've run into problems with there being what I would call "more than just the average change between versions" and it's caused a loss of data for us in the past."
"In the next release, vROps should add integration with Apache OpenStack."
"There's some improvements that they can do as far as make it more user-friendly and get away from Java."
"I would like to see them get a holistic view of the organization, not just focusing on the server and the state that it's running on but to widen that out from the end user all the way through."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The solution is extremely expensive and has additional fees for things like monitoring."
"The tool's pricing is balanced with the market."
"The tool's pricing is expensive."
"We would like to build custom dashboards in the standard license. Right now, this is available in the enterprise license, not the standard license."
"VMware support is very costly compared to other organizations' support. When you purchase a VMware product, such as vSphere or vROps, the license is perpetual, but you also have to purchase the support service for a number of years. The support service pricing is very high compared to the license, and compared to competitive vendors."
"We have licenses on a three year basis. Licensing costs are much higher, but given the stability of the solution, it is a reasonable price."
"The license is a one time cost, and you pay for support on a yearly basis. It is a bit expensive, but if you consider the product support and its reliability, it's justifiable."
"Get the right licensing and increase your licensing as you upgrade and grow. If you get the wrong licensing, it will be expensive, especially if you plan improperly."
"I have reduced the time to troubleshoot for my customers."
"The pricing: It's expensive."
"Pricing could always be cheaper, but it's acceptable."
