A stable solution with an intuitive interface and quick customer service
I have been working with Fortinet FortiGate, WatchGuard, Sophos, and SonicWall. I'm not as comfortable with SonicWall because of their UI and limitations. I prefer Fortinet above all other options. When it comes to configuration, I am confident in my ability to handle various tasks, including creating policies such as firewall rules, web policies, and application policies. Additionally, I can configure VPNs and implement load balancing, among other tasks. Overall, I feel much more comfortable working with Fortinet. Fortinet has made significant improvements by integrating AI with firewalls for threat analysis and prevention. In the past 2-3 years, they have launched FortiSASE and SIEM, and they also provide SOC services. Both Palo Alto and Fortinet FortiGate are excellent. While Fortinet FortiGate comes at higher prices, the functionality and support justify the cost. They promptly resolve firmware issues and inform all support providers about configuration changes.

Unified policies streamline network management but complex licensing requires attention
Cisco Secure Firewall has some growth opportunities in terms of visibility and control capabilities regarding managing encrypted traffic. It has the ability to analyze encrypted traffic, and there is potential for more integration with APIs and AI to enhance these capabilities. Cisco Secure Firewall needs improvement in deployment time and the capability to access the CLI during support calls. I often encounter issues when technical support uses a CLI that is not familiar to me while troubleshooting through the GUI. My ongoing complaint for the last six years has been the lack of CLI functionality, which hinders my ability to work on the firewall, alongside concerns regarding deployment time. For the next release, they should look at the features offered by competitors such as Fortinet, including the ability to perform packet capture directly from the interface. If they enhanced their troubleshooting efficiency related to packet capture for each specific rule, it would simplify the process significantly.

Pros

"You have access to CLI in case you have no web access."
"The enterprise-level support is excellent, and we receive quick assistance from Fortinet FortiGate."
"FortiGate is more feature-rich and has a broader range of hardware. T"
"What I like the most is the configuration and that it's simple, and straightforward to maintain."
"The performance is good."
"In terms of cost, features, and security, everything is top-notch."
"Fortinet FortiGate is a stable solution."
"I like its ability to prevent external intrusion into our database."
"It allowed us to consolidating multiple security devices into a single appliance."
"From my point of view, the biggest return on investment when using Cisco Secure Firewall is that the end-users have a good experience with the remote access VPN, are happy to use it, and have to use it every day."
"The user interface, the UI, is excellent on the solution."
"The firepower sensors have been great; they do a good job of dropping unwanted traffic."
"Cisco is very reliable and very secure, but has to compete with Fortinet which is very hard."
"It's a flexible solution and is well-known in the community."
"The feature of Cisco Secure Firewall that I appreciate the most is its ability to be used via the cloud, so we don't have to deploy service engineers on-site at any time."
"We had a situation where our network was down and the telecom providers at Cisco support helped us to resolve those issues, and the downtime was brought down to a minimum."
"The stability of Palo Alto Networks CN-Series is excellent."
"The app inspection is very helpful for network security."

Cons

"I would like to have SD-WAN as a part of the Next Generation Firewall. It would enhance high availability."
"The dashboard is not user friendly so is a bit complicated."
"This product could be improved with Active directory integration and better handling in IPsec and GRE Tunnels."
"One area for improvement is the IPS engine."
"Fortinet FortiGate firewall is good, but other products like the switching part and all that fabric, in handling very audio-video traffic, sometimes it struggles on the switching part, but on the routing part, it is fine."
"Fortinet FortiGate needs to improve the logging and reporting. Additionally, the next-generation application's policies should be improved. When they were released they had bugs."
"There are some cloud-based features that could be much more flexible than they currently are."
"There are too many updates coming for VPN, and the VPN keeps disconnecting frequently, which I find problematic."
"We had an event recently where we had inbound traffic for SIP and we experienced an attack against our SIP endpoint, such that they were able to successfully make calls out... Both CTR, which is gathering data from multiple solutions that the vendor provides, as well as the FMC events connection, did not show any of those connections because there was not a NAT inbound which said either allow it or deny it."
"So far, we are not satisfied by the move. The precedent solution is much more adapted to the Telco environment, although Cisco recommended this platform."
"The stability could be better because we have a lot of issues with the stability of Cisco Firepower."
"The product line does not address the SMB market as it is supposed to do."
"I wouldn't recommend that an organization choose ASA as a solution. They should look into other options."
"The service could use a little more web filtering."
"It can probably provide a holistic view of different appliances because many customers do not have only one brand, besides the traditional SNMP protocols, to cover all their devices. There are some specific requirements in terms of configurations or actions that sometimes have to be done in a very manual way because of the different versions or brands in a customer's infrastructure. It could also have some additional analytics capabilities. It has some very interesting ways to monitor the traffic and identify false positives from the architecture and the environment. It would be good if there is a way to patch with some other industry-specific solutions and synchronize some of the information, such as what other customers experience in their operations and probably share some additional information that could be leveraged or shared among the industry. Such information would be something interesting to see. It could have AI capabilities related to how the appliances could benefit from learning the current environment and different exposures."
"The initial setup could be simplified, as it can be complex for new users."
"I'd like to see more IOPs features."
"Palo Alto Networks CN-Series could improve on its pricing as it is quite expensive."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The price is highly competitive when compared to other brands that offer similar functionality."
"The product is not very expensive."
"It was pretty affordable. We did go a little bit above MSRP, but the service pack that was included was quite worth the additional costs. It is competitively priced compared to other major players in the market. It is significantly cheaper than Check Point, which is a primary competitor. Additionally, its pricing is comparable to that of Cisco's ASA and a few other vendors."
"The price is fine."
"Work through partners for the best pricing."
"Fortinet FortiGate's price can be reduced."
"The price of FortiGate support is too expensive."
"The cost is too high... They have to focus on more features with less cost for the customer. If you see the market, where it's going, there are a lot of players offering more features for less cost."
"The cost of keeping the licensing up on the ASA is very expensive. It has a lot of positives, but the cost of going with it is really starting to be a major negative right now."
"ASA pricing seems high compared to other firewalls, such as the Sophos XG models."
"Pricing for Cisco is expensive. There are additional costs for the licensing part, support, and even the hardware part. The device cost is very high. I would be very happy with an improvement on the price."
"The price is comparable."
"Pricing is high, but it is essentially a corporate decision."
"I'd say it's probably well-priced."
"That'd be more for my leadership, but I give them the quotes, and if they approve, they're happy. They've never wavered, so I wouldn't say it's out of the realm where they're considering another product. It must be in the direct price range for our leadership to not blink an eye when we give it to them."
"The pricing of Cisco's boxes is pretty good."
