Easy to use and the initial setup is easy and comfortable
The most valuable features are that it's easy to use and the initial setup is easy and comfortable I have been using EMC CloudArray for around a year and a half.  It's very scalable.  We haven't had any issues in which we needed to contact their technical support.  I'm not the one that deals…

Positive impacts seen with improved data security and reliable support
I have six months of experience with the product, and as a consultant, the use cases for NetApp AltaVault mainly stand out for me. Regarding the deduplication feature in the product, I am interested in whether clients are using it. There are different integrations available with NetApp AltaVault, such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, and I want to understand how they impact data security policies in my case.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable features are that it's easy to use and the initial setup is easy and comfortable."
"You can store backups for a while."
"Leverage the SE and the technical expertise within NetApp; they offer really great services, and they'll provide you with an honest approach to how to address your business problems."
"The deduplication engine. Right now, we're at about 10.5 to 11 times deduplication of our backup data."
"Considering the disaster recovery scenarios, I want to assess NetApp AltaVault's ability to minimize the recovery time objective (RTO) and what positive impact I have seen from the product so far."
"Being able to move data seamlessly from one-premise to the cloud (Azure). It works great. The backup solution is perfect for us."
"The most valuable feature is the portability of large archived data, as you're able to put things on large on-prem, low-cost storage and then augment that with even lower cost storage in the cloud."
"The flexibility, being able to virtualize it, port it wherever I like, test my backups, test my DR capabilities whenever I like without impacting anybody, is great."
"It took an entire silo of complexity and simplified it to a device in the cloud."

Cons

"To make it a ten it should be powerful."
"It wasn't as easy as I thought it was going to be. It was actually a complete rebuild, and then migrate the database."
"I really want to partner it with the SnapCenter. We haven't implemented that yet. We're upgrading all of our stuff to the ONTAP 9, which you had to have."
"The solution needs faster indexing."
"NetApp's own competing products complicate things."
"The product must provide multi-gate connectivity."
"To clarify, the catalog feature is lacking, and you need to depend on somebody else."
"What could be helpful is different user base authentication so then maybe we could allow different customers to point to a single appliance and they only see the backups and things that they have."
"It would be nice if the solution was more complete. Many customers are looking for a single solution or silo that they can manage everything from. It would be nice, instead of having different products, if everything a client needed was in one solution."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"It's quite cost-effective."
"In one use case, and we have several, to run for a particular customer, the price is about $375,000 a year."
"The price is a bit high."
"There is a need to make yearly payments towards the licensing costs attached to the solution, which comes to around 3,000 USD."
"The pricing is not too bad, but could be a little better."
"You could compare it to a Dell EMC or ECS, and I think it's probably a little less costly than that. Within the marketplace, it's a medium cost."
"It is a rather expensive program."
