Achieving seamless infrastructure management with optimized network and user access controls
I believe enhancements could be made in CloudStack, particularly in the management servers. I had the opportunity to collaborate with one of the Apache CloudStack developers, leading to the installation of additional agents for better information retrieval from hypervisors. We implemented configurations, ensuring consistency across hosts and VMs. We also utilized Ansible or YAML files to automate password upgrades during patching activities and database management, showcasing our customization efforts for improvement. For future releases, it would be beneficial if Apache enhanced CloudStack by integrating alerting systems directly. We've had instances where hypervisors experienced overloads without prior alerts, so proactive alerts within the tool would better prepare us for addressing issues swiftly, preventing disruption in business operations. A portal summarizing system metrics alongside alert capabilities would greatly enhance our operational efficiency.

Automation has streamlined cloud cost control and governance yet onboarding still needs improvement
The best features Firefly offers include cost saving and drift detection, which native infrastructure as code solutions do not provide. Drift detection and governance are great features for Firefly that help me identify unutilized resources that can save costs. Firefly's drift detection and governance help me day-to-day by notifying me of any configuration drifts, such as when developers change configurations that I cannot control. For example, if I have a number of VMs running and their configurations are changed, Firefly alerts me to these changes, allowing me to identify gaps in configurations that can be corrected. Firefly's accuracy and reliability in output are impressive, with approximately 80% accuracy in building the required code for various services from the foundation services like EKS and VPC. Firefly has positively impacted my organization mainly through cost savings and governance. It allows me to have a centralized dashboard for a complete view of my AWS accounts to find problems easily. Additionally, it has saved me time because I no longer need to write every Terraform from scratch, as Firefly provides best industry practices code. For example, I monitored my database instances and found that someone had expanded the ACU size from the required number to ten times more, which began costing me $10,000 monthly extra for one AWS account. Firefly detected this and saved me the $10,000 extra expenditure.

Pros

"We chose CloudStack because we saw it with a better TCO ratio, balancing innovation, and starting the DevOps culture with a low operational overhead."
"CloudStack is a very feature-rich product; it gives you a lot of control over your VM networks and has extensive integration with storage plugins where you can use many open source tools to bring storage into your CloudStack environment for backups or even to run VMs."
"CloudStack, by default, gives us a zone-based setup which makes it easier to manage datacenters located in different geographical areas."
"All our development is done on this environment because we deploy around 3,000 instances every day."
"The initial implementation process was quite good."
"CloudStack is simple to stand up and get off the ground in a hurry. Its centralized design allows for easier troubleshooting when compared to OpenStack. Out of the box, it’s very well suited for white labeling and IaaS."
"CloudStack manages infrastructure with 2-4 thousands of hosts easily."
"CloudStack is our private IaaS cloud which helps us manage resource usage in our company and it is also a great PoC environment."
"Firefly is excellent for generating text images and editing images."
"Firefly has a positive impact on my organization by improving cloud governance, infrastructure consistency, and engineering productivity."
"Firefly saves one employee, it saves 5 million annually, and we are currently improving 40% of our go-to-market time while reducing cost by 30% and increasing revenue by approximately 20%."
"Firefly has a positive impact on my organization by improving cloud governance, infrastructure consistency, and engineering productivity."
"When I used this feature from Firefly, it increased my way to work with resources in the cloud."
"Firefly has impacted my work positively by making it more creative and productive."
"Firefly generating that code is a game changer for organizations."
"Firefly has positively impacted my organization mainly through cost savings and governance, allowing me to have a centralized dashboard for a complete view of my AWS accounts to find problems easily and saving me time because I no longer need to write every Terraform from scratch, as Firefly provides best industry practices code."

Cons

"From time to time there is a bug in calculating limits of resources for customer domain/account. Maybe it’s a problem with 4.9.2."
"There are some minor things that can be improved even more such as, perhaps, a bit more polishing on the GUI side to catch up with the API possibilities (which are really extensive) but otherwise nothing critical."
"A technology upgrade is one item which could be improved upon a lot."
"The area of Apache CloudStack that could stand the most improvement is the functionality/features around the virtual routers. They can be somewhat cumbersome to deal with at times and are the least stable piece of the product."
"The product could improve by embracing newer technologies like GPU virtualization."
"I think that container technology in CloudStack is an area that needs to be improved."
"The stability is problematic, in part, because there is no support."
"My teammates have complained about the upgrade. The source code had massive files that had to be merged with our own development to upgrade to the latest version of CloudStack. It was quite painful for them. CloudStack could add some cost management tools to give me some control over the costs associated with the number of users of my services."
"I feel that Firefly can be improved by getting more models to generate high-end videos."
"The only negative aspect of Firefly I see is the pricing, which is expensive."
"The learning curve for new users adopting Firefly can be overwhelming; I believe improvements in onboarding and training materials are necessary to facilitate quicker adoption."
"Some of the areas Firefly can improve are a simpler onboarding process for organizations with large and multi-cloud environments, more customization for generated Terraform code to better match existing coding standards and module structures, and more native integrations with DevOps and ITSM tools."
"My team and the company that I worked for at that time didn't like the price too much."
"This is somewhat tricky because if someone does not have good experience on the UX side, they will find it difficult to navigate and find the right asset."
"I chose eight out of ten based on my trial evaluation period, as I felt everything was great, though I believe the AI aspect could improve and having a better onboarding process would help."
"If I talk about the cost, the cost is a little high."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The Apache CloudStack is open source, so you do not have licenses to purchase."
"Give an effort to planning. If possible, contract a specialized consultant company for the initial setup and knowledge transfer."
"The solution is open-source and free."
"It is a 100% open-source solution needing just an Apache license. Also, there are no hidden fees to be paid."
"There is no license, so the product is free unless you are buying professional technical support services."
"CloudStack is an open-source product."
"CloudStack is an open source solution, so you don't need to pay anything for it. When our company develops something specially for CloudStack, it is donated to the Apache Software Foundation and provided to anyone that wants to use it."
"As far as I know, CS is still free of charge. If you want to pay some money, Citrix Cloud Platform is based on CS, I think. As for hypervisors – everything as usual, you need to pay for VMware and vCenter. As for XenServer, recently they changed the free feature list, so you may need to pay some money to get useful features like XenMotion."
