Quick to set up, flexible, and stable
The scheduling part I don't like due to the fact that it allows you to schedule as a parent and child and other things, however, the error trackability has to be a little more user-friendly. It's also not user-friendly in the sense that it loads all the jobs and there are not enough filters so that it doesn't need to load everything. If the job fails, you don't get any type of alert or email. It would be ideal if there was some sort of automated alert message. Technical support isn't the best. It would be ideal if we understood how to do it in a card exception regarding exclusion, where the card is captured separately rather than filling the whole process on the data inbound side. Certain workloads like this are organized in such a way where you seem to be doubling the work as opposed to streamlining the process.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Server features for scheduler: It is very easy to schedule jobs and monitor them. The interface is easy to use."
"We switched to CloverETL because of its flexibility to connect to various data sources and no dependence on native language and ease of use."
"Connectivity to various data sources: The ability to extract data from different data sources gives greater flexibility."
"No dependence on native language and ease of use."
"Familiar, intuitive GUI coming from a Java development background, in-depth, descriptive, and well-laid-out documentation, responsive support through forums directly from Clover staff, a wealth of customizable pre-defined components, descriptive logging for error messages, and ease of install with a light footprint make it very effective to use."
"Key features include wealth of pre-defined components; all components are customizable; descriptive logging, especially for error messages."
"Quickly develops a data warehouse for our organization with documentation and can track back/forward features."
"The product takes on much of the painful, time-consuming, manual and repetitive tasks, allowing you to focus on meeting business requirements."
"Support is absolutely excellent, efficient, and timely."
"Naturally produces a way to easily debug your DW data solutions."
"ROI has been huge; we have a very large healthcare data warehouse and the amount of ETL code we have produced and continue to maintain would not be possible without a tool as cost effective as RED."
"Speed to market of a warehouse solution at a relatively inexpensive price point."
"During the POC myself and one WS resource were able to deliver a project in 3 days that had been in development by other resources for 6 months and still hadn't been delivered."
"It has a built-in automatic scheduling environment."

Cons

"Resource management: We typically run out of heap space, and even the allocation of high heap space does not seem to be enough."
"Needs easier automated failure recovery, more and more intuitive auto-generated or filled-in code for components, and easier or more automated sync between CloverETL Designer and CloverETL Server."
"Its documentation could be improved."
"It could use a tool to diagnose what is missing from the environment for WhereScape to install successfully."
"Project-based searching of data objects in the data warehouse browser needs to be improved."
"Improve the object renaming ability (it works, but it could be more automated)."
"The scheduled jobs which are run by the WhereScape scheduler seem to be a strangely separate animal. Unlike all other WhereScape objects, jobs cannot be added to WhereScape projects. Also, unlike all other objects, jobs also cannot be deleted using a WhereScape deployment application."
"There are some newer features that haven't been included in the training materials yet so they're a little outdated (although the help documentation is very good)."
"Jobs cannot be deleted via the deployment package. When deploying from dev to QA or production, a job has to be retired. The job has to be manually removed from the target environment."
"Data discovery would be more powerful with machine learning features."
"Unfortunately this tool's basic architecture has severe flaws which make it likely impractical for most real world marts or data warehouses."
